Perhaps it's just the nature of the beast. The three-year, $30 million deal created expectations he was unable to meet, and everyone got frustrated.

But everyone can learn from this.

Some say the fans deserve partial blame for the contract, because they were the ones who pressured the team to hand it out. We don't buy it. The front office shouldn't let straw polls dictate roster decisions, especially when the fans' favorites can change so quickly. It seems this was a lesson learned the hard way.

What they did not know - and what the Diamondbacks believe they had no way of knowing, according to sources - was that Abreu and the Dodgers were nearing a settlement on a grievance filed in 2007 that would award him extra days of service time and could make him arbitration eligible in 2011 instead of 2012. .......................................
It's unclear what action the Diamondbacks will take at this point, as Garland already has pitched for the Dodgers. Teams can file grievances with Major League Baseball over disputed trades.

The sides agreed to a list of possible players to complete the deal, and the Diamondbacks could ask the Dodgers to amend the list in order to receive a player other than Abreu. Or the Diamondbacks could ask for cash to compensate for the difference in salary Abreu will earn during his arbitration seasons.

Notes: Doug Davis on wavier wire?

According to an ESPN.com report, Diamondbacks left-hander Doug Davis has been placed on waivers. It's not clear if he has been claimed or has cleared, or even when the 48-hour waiver period began. Diamondbacks officials would not confirm or deny the report. Once a player clears waivers he can be traded. He also could be traded to the team that claims him.

There's more about the team if you follow the link. this is all that was mentioned about DD. I don't have ESPN Insider either to verify other than the tease they give you to subscribe. It is mentioned in Buster Olney's Blog it says

New capital safeguards D-Backs payroll

Diamondbacks Managing General Partner Ken Kendrick said the club raised $50 million in a cash call to team investors earlier this year, a move that he said was designed as a safeguard against the slow economy.

"Most importantly, we want to continue to build the payroll," Kendrick said. "We want to be able to continue that at some modest level of growth going forward, and I didn't want to be caught in having to deal with payroll stress if we had revenue declines because of the economy. We do have revenue declines because of the economy and some probably attributed to the team not performing well."

"What's interesting is that Reynolds chose to share his feelings about his teammates to the media rather than address them during one of the many meetings the team has had where players have spoken or directly to the player or players he thought were responsible.

I just haven't felt like it was my place, but like I said I was pretty hot last night and when you're upset and you have things on your mind and you have an outlet to say it, it just all boiled over."
