Mystery Man has been revealed!
This FanShot has been promoted to the front page.
It's not Marteneau or Zilstra. The Cougar not receiving a scholarship (leaving the program really) for BBall next year is.... Mr. Anderson. He's graduating early and my guess is he knew he would ride the pine all next year with Collinsworth, Davies (hopefully), and a slew of Freshman or RM post guys coming back. On the flipside, our potential Juco recruit, Hauns Brereton, has chosen Hawai'i over BYU. The program is worse but the scenery must have sucked him in. Drastic change from the plains of Nebraska.
Interesting read on why Syracuse didn't recruit The Jimmer
The stats he gives aren't exactly accurate to who Jimmer was because the last 5 games were without Davies. Therefore more double and triple teams because teams aren't afraid of what J Anderson can (or can't) do offensively.
One of the commentors hit it on the head at the bottom of the first page.
I hate Rick Reilly
My disdain for Rick Reilly just grew ten fold. How about you watch more than one game Rick? Ever heard of an off night? Never have liked him but this article really ticked me off. I love that other players give Jimmer respect but the guy, who apparently doesn't have an ounce of athleticism in him to recognize the true talent Jimmer has, chooses to dog him based on one performance.
The guy is a Cubs fan, he wouldn't know a winner if he saw one.
Hoke to Michigan
Just when you thought SDSU might be a contender again they fall back into the abyss.
I found this comical
An admission of guilt? I still haven't stopped laughing from that beatdown the Utes got in front of their "fans". So much for that NC huh, Utes?
Goodbye MWC
Yes, yes, yes!!!!
Utah might want to consider shutting down the Mens BBall program
Apparently Marshall Henderson is afraid to face the crowd at the Marriott Center the next 3 years.
My Robertson ballot has yet to arrive. However, if I had in my hand today and was forced to send it in, my choice would not be Turner, Cousins or Reynolds.
My pick would come from a mid-major, a player who is having an incredible season for a team that is talented enough to crash the Final Four party in Indianapolis. That would be Fredette, the best player nobody ever sees play because the Mountain West Conference has its national television package with CBS College Sport.
Fredette's line is 21.5/3.2/5.0/31.0 for a Brigham Young team that is 22-3. However, Fredette's true worth can be found in Pomeroy's tempo-free stats as the junior guard ranks in the nation's top 100 in seven categories: 1.4 fouls called per 40 minutes (18th), 31.0 percentage of possessions (27th), 122.1 offensive rating (59th), 31.5 assist rate (67.5), 30.6 percentage of shots (82nd), 1.4 fouls called per 40 minutes (85th) and 61.9 true shooting percentage (61.9).
Colorado State coach Tim Miles summed our man up quite well after Fredette burned his Rams for 36 points on Wednesday night in a 92-70 victory.
"Fredette is a special player and his numbers are remarkable," Miles said. "We tried multiple defenders, we tried traps and he still finds ways to hurt you."
Pomeroy ranks BYU #4
If you're on the same page as I am than you would agree that the "poll"ing system to decide rankings is really quirky and a bit head scratching. Enter Ken Pomeroy. In the eyes of many his system for rankings is as close to unbiased as any ranking system can possibly be. According to his algorithmic quotients based on the rotation of the earths ambiotic components system today he has BYU ranked #4 in all the land for college hoops.
Who's in front of them you might ask? Just a couple of little programs like Kansas, Duke, and Syracuse. Then there's a bunch of little guys behind them like Kentucky, North Carolina, West Virginia, and on and on. Umm, I'm not sure what else to say? One side of me wants to jump for joy, another side of me thinks that's a little too high, another side of me is pissed because BYU isn't getting the respect it deserves (fyi, I'm happy with a #10 ranking, #4 would be sweet, I'm just not sure we're #4 worthy), and another side of me wonders "what if?". Could this be the year BYU doesn't get TKO'd in Round 1? Could this be the 29th Anniversary of the Ainge runner, played by Jimmer Fredette???
BYU recruiting makes the cut!
According to ESPN, BYU football is slow racking up a powerful recruiting class currently ranked 24th. If we land Heimuli out of Brighton we can jump to a top 20 real fast!
Max Hall in the East/West Shrine Bowl
Todd McShay gave a Max some props. I didn't really think many thought much of Max.
What BlockU doesn't mention...
It's easy to point the finger at the other guys when you're too cowardly to report the other side. What is this, CNN? Show me again where the Cougar "grabbed" her arm? For what I can see he's flailing to escape a few Utes who didn't like that he was taking a picture via his phone and threw it away. Rumors are surfacing that it was Whitt's son... that explains the "no comment" or non report to police by the Whitt's. If in fact the Whitt's are being the better person in this scenario and dropping the whole incident to stupid fans (the Ute(s) and the Cougar) then maybe every other Ute (that's you blocku) who's trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill should follow their fearless leaders example and let it go. My guess is we'll hear it was Whitt's son.
Andy Katz showing BYU some love
Although football is my sport of choice, BYU basketball is pretty darn close to the same level of excitement for me. Here's what I found on ESPN today...
In case you didn't see Katz's first article on Coach Rose, it's an excellent read...
This team has a chance to finish with less than 3 losses not just in conference but on the year, and enter the Madness as a 5 seed.... and pull off that elusive first round win!
Everyone's out to get BYU!!!
I could be totally wrong but it just seems like BYU gets the rest of the leagues very best play. I know our defense makes us cringe and seems to keep the games closer than they should, but I really think that the one game every team gets jacked up for in the MWC is the BYU game! We've embarrassed so many of the programs for so many years and all they care to do is beat BYU... if they can do that then their seasons a success. We have a huge target on our back even though we didn't win conference last year.
Don't get me wrong, it's a sign of respect. I don't think Utah or TCU get 100% of their opponents play week in and week out. SDSU looked like a much better team then their losses show.
Bruce Feldman: "BYU did something"
In a blog hosted by ESPN's Bruce Feldman one fan asked:
"Do you think BYU should not be ranked so high? Yes, they beat OU, but the latter was without their star QB and TE and lost by a measly point."
Feldman's response?
"Disagree. I think they should be ranked that high. They were the reason why Sam Bradford didn't finish that game and he played in the first half and that offense didn't have a play longer than 18 yards with him in there. Plus, BYU was without its best RB Harvey Unga who is really good. BYU did something. Most other teams high in the rankings, save for perhaps Bama and Ok St, are just up there because of supposed potential."
