Turf Show Times Frank Disappears... It's Magic!

The Magic Johnson Group has won the bid to buy the Dodgers. The price? Two large! That's billion with a 'B'. I'm guessing this is enough for Frank McCourt to pay all of his creditors, including his ex wife who is due somewhere in the range of $121 million by way of the divorce settlement. At this point, it seems unlikely that the Rams will be moving to Los Angeles anytime soon, if ever, although I know Magic is interested in returning pro football to the L.A. market and will probably team with AEG to make that happen.

Turf Show Times It just came to me...

With the sixth pick, it seems clear that we are going to get Blackmon, Richardson or Claiborne. Assuming we don't get Blackmon, we either choose Claiborne, which almost everyone agrees is a great pickup; or Richardson, around whom there is some debate. Personally, I think a two back offense with SJ and Richardson would be awesome but my major point is this: if we get Claiborne or Richardson in the first round and then draft one of the remaining WRs in round two (Hill, Jeffery, Sanu, Wright) I'm thinking we've done an awesome job and in just a few more picks, we get to choose again. Under this scenario, it's almost impossible not to come away looking good and much improved.

Turf Show Times I don't know what it would cost...

But with the news that the Giants are releasing Brandon Jacobs, what would a backfield of Jackson and Jacobs look like to opposing defenses? Scary I imagine. Jacobs is already accustomed to sharing the backfield as well as operating as the number two back in a 2-back system. Plus, he has playoff experience, two SB rings, he'll help at the goal line (as a blocker, a carrier or even a decoy) and should Jackson go down with injury, Jacobs steps into the starting role. For a more conservative play caller such as Fisher, I'm thinking this has got to be the backfield of his dreams.

Turf Show Times Vikings Have Just Cut Berrian...

I say we go get him.  What do we possibly have to lose?  We can check him out for the remainder of the season, such as it is, combine him with Lloyd, Clayton, DX and whoever else is calling themselves a Ram wideout these days and determine if he'd be worth signing long term.  If he is, and next year we have DX, Clayton, Berrian, Amendola and JB or AJ, we then have some weapons for Sam, with Pettis and Salas as backups.  Heck, on paper, that's almost as good as Holt, Bruce, Az and Proehl.

Turf Show Times What about Garrard?

Now that he has been unceremoniously cut by the Jags, I'm thinking he'd be an excellent backup to Sam; certainly better that AJ Feeley.  He's been a starter for many years, and would likely do well in McD's offense. Additionally, he has some escapability.  Of course, salary is always an issue but given that he is currently unemployed just a few days prior to the start of the season, I'm thinking he'd be open to team friendly deal.

Turf Show Times Defense Question

It seems that most of the consistently great defenses in the NFL, at least during the last 10 years or so, have run either a true 3-4 defense or a combo 3-4, meaning they go 3-4 sometimes and 4-3 sometimes.  Why haven't we seen at least the combo 3-4 from the Rams and is there a significant possibility it will be employed by Spags in the near future?

It seems to me that a combo defense would give opposing offenses more things to worry about, especially if we could move around that 4th LB the way the Ravens do with Suggs.   And in our division, which has, with the exception of Sam, fairly weak QB's, multiple looks might force turnovers.

Turf Show Times Am I wrong...?

1) To jump on the Bradford bandwagon assuming his shoulder is okay?

2) To think LT might able to help us once SD releases him?

Keep in mind, Bradford is big (6'4", 220lbs) and when he was healthy in '07 & 08, threw for 86 TD's and 16 interceptions.

As for LT, if nothing else, he can share the load with SJax and with something to prove, become the second back in a "two headed monster" backfield.

Turf Show Times Billy Devaney

His bio says he had a hand in three SB-winning Redskins teams, and one SB-going Falcons team.  Does anyone know how much of a hand he really had and which draft picks he was responsible for?  Considering he was responsible for our most recent draft, the complete revamping of player personnel, the hiring of the head coach, the free agents and the 180 degree change in organizational philosophy, I'm wondering whom he might have on his radar for the 2010 draft, given that once again, we'll likely be picking 1, 2, or 3 and have a host of needs.

Turf Show Times Jimmy Williams...

So it looks like the niners just cut DB Jimmy Williams.  Any thoughts as to whether we should give him a run?  If nothing else, another big DB never hurts, especially in a division with Fitzgerald, TJ, Bruce and probably Boldin.

And, in a bit of poetic justice, how nice would it be to steal their DB a couple of years after they signed our HOF WR.

I say we give J-Dub a shot if his character checks out ok.
