Bleeding Green Nation Help me help my fellow Angels fans

I wear my teams loudly. Every teacher at my site knows I am an Eagles, Angels, and Irish fan. Today when news broke of the Puljos signing (and then the less impressive CJ Wilson) everyone was telling me to sign up for World Series tickets. I have seen this song and dance before. Back in August I was already planning for the division title and a deep playoff run come January. I have been repeatedly warning them all day to hold on....no guarantee,...look at my Birds.....so far to no avail. Here's hoping at least one of my "dream teams" does what it is supposed to.

Bleeding Green Nation Step AWAY from the cliff!!

I am just as embarassed as the rest of you.  I got to the game late and fast forwarded through most of the 4th quarter it was that bad.  I thought this team would struggle early but never expected the struggles I saw today.  That said, 1-2 isn't as bad or unexpected in the Reid era, here's a breakdown for you....

99 began 0-3 overall 5-11

00 began 1-2 overall 11-5 2nd in division loss in second round of playoffs

01 began 2-1 overall 11-5 won division loss in NFC Champ game

02 began 2-1 overall 12-4 won division loss in NFC Champ game

03 began 1-2 overall 12-4 won divsion loss in NFC Champ game

04 began 3-0 overall 13-3 won division loss in Super Bowl

05 began 2-1 overall 6-10 TO is still a douche

06 began 2-1 overall 10-6 won division loss in 2nd round

07 began 1-2 overall 8-8 4th in division

08 began 2-1 overall 9-6-1 2nd in division, loss in NFC Champ game

09 began 2-1 overall 10-6 won division loss in Wildcard

10 began 2-1 overall 10-6 won division loss in Wildcard

11 began 1-2 ?

This is Reid's third 1-2 start.  Twice we still made at least the second round of the playoffs and once just wasn't a good year.

Looking back over those years there were some pretty embarassing losses early that I had blocked out of my memory.  It looks crappy, and it is, but history tells us it ain't over yet.

Bleeding Green Nation How's the new kicker Henery  looking?

I loved Akers and will miss him.  Heading into the season with a rookie kicker AND punter is intimidating to say the least (the first game winner he has to kick I will surely hold my breath).  However, I have a nephew who plays college ball in Nebraska (not AT Nebraska but a smaller school in the state) and he swears by Henery calling him the "real deal".  So, has anyone seen or heard anything about he looks or has been kicking in camp?

Bleeding Green Nation I hope yesterday doesn't become another 4th and 26

Here's what I mean.  I can vividly remember watching that game in 2004.  I was at my in-laws house and ALL OF THEM are Wisconsin natives.  I was the only Philly fan in the entire house and the only one celebrating when all was said and done (my father in law still owes me dinner from that game).  Anyways....I can clearly remember an interview with Freddie Mitchell following the game and he said the play meant nothing if they didn't take care of buisness the following week in the NFC Championship game.  I'm sure you remember, as I do, the load of cr@p we laid the following week against Carolina.  4th and 26 while a great play, ended up not meaning much.

My fear is that this game is one for the ages, one I (as I am sure all of you) will never forget (I sent my 2 year old daughter running scared into the kitchen).  However, I don't want it to be an anecdote in another playoff loss of a season.  A "hey do you remember..." game that didn't mean much more than getting us into the playoffs.  I want it to be a launching pad to something greater.  I want it to be mentioned in the forward to the story of the eventual super bowl champions.

Bleeding Green Nation LIke the trade or not I appreciate the timing

Sure the trade came on Easter day the LAST day I thought it would happen.  In fact I didn't check bleedinggreennation for any updates because they wouldn't trade him on Easter!!!  However, we stumbled upon the BREAKING NEWS at my dad's house.  The Eagles dominated the news and I for one am happy....here's what WAS going to dominate the Easter sports day if Philly hadn't pulled the trigger...

1.  Yanks vs. Sox (I don't care, I don't care, I don't care)

2.  Tiger's practice round (yeah he banged a bunch of hot chicks, get over it media)

3.  The woman's final four (stop telling me I should care about this cause I never will)

Somehow those 3 stories (along with Kobe and LeBron) were torn from the headlines and we dominated.

So, thank you Eagles front office.  Like the move or not, you saved the sports pages for a day.

Bleeding Green Nation Just rememberin is all

I'm not trying to live in the past, but 5 years ago today, January 23, was one of the best days I can remember as an Eagles fan.  It was one of those days that washes everything away and reminds you of how great football can me.  I'm confident we'll get there again and win the next one as well.  Enjoy, relive, and look forward my friends.

Bleeding Green Nation Let's take a collective deep breath here on BGN

I'd like all of you (us) to go back in time.  Eagles are 5-4 and have lost 3 of 4 including one to the lowly Raiders.  If I had told you the Birds would go 6-1 down the stretch how many of you would have signed up on the spot?  How many of you thought we'd run the table then?  I was at the San Diego game, I know that I didn't see us running the table at all no less winning 4 or 5 more games.

Look, I'd have loved, I LONGED FOR that #2 seed.  However, of the teams remaining in the NFC who do you truly fear?  Dallas? Ok they kicked our collective a$$ today.  They have to be, they deserve to be favored and the team to beat.  However, we SHOULD have beat them in November and got hosed by officials (remember even the league admitted they screwed up the review calls on the spots).  We gave one away to Oakland and we got beat by Dallas, New Orleans, and San Diego.  Our road to the Super Bowl allows us to avenge all 3 losses, it demands that we avenge at least 2.  However, our offense can be unstoppable at times and no one has a better pair of corners in the league.  New Orleans is realing, Minnesota is overated, Arizona isn't beating us two years in a row, we can take care of Green Bay.  I'm not saying it's going to happen but  too many people are giving up WAY to early.  We just ran off 6 victories, we took a week off, now it's back to school.

Bleeding Green Nation My Son's first game

I am blessed and lucky to be headed to the game this Sunday in San Diego (I live about 120 miles away).  It is going to be my son's first pro football game and obviously his first Eagles game.  He's 9 and he's terribly excited.  Is there any BGN group get together that I can bring my boy to to learn what it means to be an Eagles fan and for him to meet more of the fan base?

Bleeding Green Nation Sunday Night Game Promo

No it doesn't surprise me.  No it shouldn't frustrate me but.....

I"m sitting here finishing report cards for my third graders and watching Notre Dame (at the moment) get hammered by Navy.  NBC keeps showing promos for the game tomorrow and I have seen Whitten run without his helmet, I've seen Dallas guys tackling Eagles, I've seen Romo celebrating a touchdown pass,  yet NOTHING positive for Philly.  Did we not kick their ass last year to get into the playoffs!?  Are there no highlights from that game they could show?  I cannot stand the Dallas bias the media feeds us.

Bleeding Green Nation Peter King's on crack

Look, I don't mind him not picking Philly to win the division.  One can make a strong argument about that, especially looking over the early problems of the O-line and losses on D.  I am ok with him not picking us to make the playoffs, although his 9-7 record underrepresents where I see us at the end of the year.  However, he has Philly 3rd BEHIND FREAKIN DALLAS!!!  That's a Dallas team we kicked the crap out of at the end of last year and all we did was get better while they didn't. Once again since they're Dallas we are all supposed to bow to special ed case of a coach and degenerate as an owner.  Bite me Peter King and I'll be happy to see you eat your words at the end of the year.

Bleeding Green Nation Anyone else sick of this

We are less than 24 hours since the announcement that Vick was joining the Eagles.  All I have heard (mainly from ESPN who I still believe is ruining sports as we know it with their minions of blowhards but I digress....) again, all I have heard is how.....

McNabb must be worried for his job....(really, if Donovan lobbied to get Vick here doesn't sound worried to me).

Eagles fans are running from the team....(as a fan who isn't particularly excited about the move I'm not burning my jerseys, sweatshirts, jackets, hats, t-shirts, or tickets anytime soon).

As soon as McNabb struggles fans will call for Vick to replace him.  (Yeah oh and did they mention that fans booed Santa one game?)

Vick is the quarterback for 2010 when McNabb's contract is up  (has anyone even seen the guy play yet?  Do we know if he is any good (not that I thought he was ALL THAT before)).

My favorite was the douchebag who was in for Colin on ESPN in the morning who said that anyone who roots for Vick supports what he did (so the other degenerates who work for that network and slober over Kobe Bryant support him raping a woman in Colorado).

I knew no matter who he signed with it'd be overboard but this is ridiculous...wait till he practices this weekend, plays in a few weeks, and gets the first time in a real game.  Philly is a circus again....

Feel free to add your own outrageous comments heard today....

Bleeding Green Nation T.O. Rips Romo

As if anyone was surprised that this would happen.  Here's the link from SI.  I hope you enjoy him Buffalo, can't say we didn't warn you  as we did Dallas and anyone else who will sign him in the future.

Link

Answering a fan who said he was unhappy that TO left Dallas, Owens replied.

"Neither ws i, blame the OC & romo!! but i'm happy 2 b where i am but i miss the other guys tht were & r true teammates!!

[Note by JasonB, 05/25/09 10:39 PM EDT ] I hope all the Dallas fans who thought things would be different when he became a Cowboy are enjoying their crow... And I hope all the Bills fans deluded enough to think the same are paying attention.

Bleeding Green Nation Even at 80% off Cowboys stuff can't sell

There's a sporting goods store near me that is going out of buisness.  It has been for a month now and it is in it's last few days of existence.  I went in today to take a look and there is STILL a rack of Romo jerseys (selling at around $30 each down from $75) plus some authentic jerseys available.  However, in the entire store there was ONE Philly item (a McNabb mini helmet I was happy to purchase).  I am sure the Cowboy fan will argue that there is more Cowboy crap flooding to market to begin wtih.  However, for a month there has been next to nothing Philly left despite the store carrying a decent, not great, but  decent amount of Philly stuff.  In the same amount of time Cowboy stuff remains.  Philly sells out when they are NOT on sale while Cowboy stuff saturates the market.

Bleeding Green Nation Is ESPN useful at all anymore?

I'm sitting here with it on in the background as I help my son with homework and they are pimping a Yankees/Red Sox match up as if it is the World Series.  The pimp the Cowboys as if they are God's gift to the sport.  I hate golf and all I hear Tiger, Tiger, Tiger when there is a tournament on.  If TO so much as bleches they cover it is if it is news.  When Tom Brady returns next year they are going to pleasure themselves to no end over it.  Yeah, it shoudln't even be on for background noise so I am part of the problem but am I missing something it is good for?

Don't even get me started on their "analysts" or "announcers".  Easily the worst and full of their own bias.

Bleeding Green Nation Who has been your favorite non high profile player?

Here's what I mean.  As a fan we know the players better than most.  So, it's easy to say, "I love McNabb" or Westbrook, or Dawkins.  It's even easy to go back and talk about your love for Reggie White or Randall Cunningham.  Sure we love them but they are known to everyone.  Who is that player that is or was your guy but never got the play from the media.

Living in So Cal I never got enough Fred Barnett from back in the day.  I loved him.  He always seemed to make a big play when they got national attention and I was able to see a game.  Even my brother, the big Cowboy fan hated him because Barnett always seemed to be in the right place at the right time.  I was crushed when he was injured and never the same guy and shipped to Miami.  His 95 yard TD from Cunningham is legendary in my eyes.

So, who's your guy?

Bleeding Green Nation How do you think Dawk feels now?

Now that Cutler and any playoff chance was just traded away how do you think he feels about signing.  He had to of signed with Denver understanding that this was the last team he would be with that had even an outside shot of getting him the elusive SB ring.  Now even that long shot has disappeared.  I can't imagine he's happy.  Now i just have to type more so that this can be posted as a fan post and I won't back down for a fanshot.  Now I'm done, tell me what you think about my original point.

Bleeding Green Nation Am I the only Eagles fan who...

Who has absolutly no desire to watch the Super Bowl?

It isn't that I don't care about either team.  Last year I despised both teams but was eager to watch with a friend.

I think it was the experience of being at the NFC Championship game and being abused for the entire two mile walk back to my car by ignorant and bandwagon jumping Cardinal fans.  In fact, sitting in my seat before the game started I texted my wife and some good friends that I was feeling a comfortable victory (I NEVER feel the Eagles are going to win NEVER!!)  I still don't like looking at my pics or watching any video I took.  There was no way we were going to lose to the Cardinals, NO WAY!!

So, if I didn't have two friends asking me to go to their Super Bowl parties I think I would slip in a dvd and watch movies all day rather than watch.
