Doug Marrone's High School Football Field is Too Short

"Herbert H. Lehman High School, with an enrollment of more than 4,000 students in the Bronx, has never played a home football game simply because its field, at 80 yards, is too short for regulation contests. ... "Lehman’s football program has traditionally been among the city’s elite. It has sent players to a number of Division I colleges. Some of its alumni have made it to the N.F.L. One of them, Doug Marrone, is the football coach at Syracuse University."

The Big East banquet became an annual fashion show. And by fashion show, I mean an evening when you can watch a bunch of 6-foot-8 guys haplessly throw together semiformal outfits that come nowhere close to fitting. Ankles or wrists were exposed, and in several unlucky cases both were. That is, unless, you played for Syracuse. Syracuse players are known for their length and 2-3 zone, but that length also may have forced their tailor into early retirement out of sheer frustration. Of the 12 teams that went to the banquet every year, Syracuse was the only team that did not even attempt to 'dress up.'

Zach Hillesland of the NY Times reminiscing about the good old days of the Big East Tournament.

I would never condone anything like that, period, point blank.

Scoopisms are spreading! Washington, DC Mayor Vince Gray pulling a paraphrased line from Scoop in denying misconduct within his administration.

If he had wanted to, Mayor Dave Bing could have looked out his 11th-story window at the Detroit River and the final vestiges of the boomtown he arrived in 44 years ago.

Not to make light of a city going through some of its worst times, but the quote from this Washington Post article makes me think if there is any time for your former Syracuse star mayor to turn your city around, the time is now.

"Q: Do you know of any recruits that UConn has lost since Edsall left for Maryland?"

"A: None. Everyone is still committed. Thanks" - Desmond Connor of the Hartford Courant. Too bad.

Why Carmelo Anthony Is the Ultimate Team Player (and What ‘Advanced’ Stats Miss About Him)

Nate Silver, the baseball statistician turned political statistician turned NY Times statistician, argues that Carmelo Anthony is much more of a team player than he is given credit for.

Wow. My guess is JTIII got into a fight with his pops shortly before this son was born and lashed out through the kid's name.

I like the Orange, but I don't see how this stock can go any higher. That said, for a team that can't make threes or score in the post, the Orange can put a lot of points on the board. They're taking care of the ball (just 10.9 turnovers per game) and that zone defense is as riddling as ever. This team is typified by junior point guard Scoop Jardine, who only makes 30 percent from three-point range but is ranked in the top five in the Big East in assists, steals and assist-to-turnover ratio. As I said with respect to Pitt, this is a season where steady but unspectacular could very well win the race.

Seth Davis rates Syracuse as a "HOLD" and above is his pretty accurate assessment of the team this season. I don't think we can be insulted by a HOLD when you're the #4 team in the nation. Will Cuse go higher? Sure, but only if the teams in front of them lose.

Marquette to Go Varsity in Men's & Women's Lacrosse

Marquette will join the Big East Conference in men's and women's lacrosse beginning with the 2012-13 academic year. After a season as an independent, the Golden Eagles will become Big East Lacrosse's eighth men's school and 10th women's program. Does this mean Syracuse will get one less Out of Conference opponent in 2012?

Syracuse's Jim Boeheim, Michigan State's Tom Izzo and Kansas' Bill Self talk about the common thread of title teams and make predictions for the season. There are additional videos featuring Boeheim from this Jimmy V Classic coaches in the "Featured Videos" list that pops up at the end. Based on the end here, I believe it would an understatement to say that Jim Boeheim believes Duke is a good basketball team.
