Caps Retain Three '09 Draftees
"The Capitals announced today that they’ve retained the rights of three 2009 draft picks by tendering bona fide offers prior to the June 1 deadline. At the same time, the Capitals have relinquished the rights to four other players drafted over the last several summers.
Defensemen Dmitri Orlov and Brett Flemming and right wing Garrett Mitchell were the recipients of the bona fide offers. Orlov was chosen in the second round (55th overall), Flemming in the fifth round (145th overall) and Mitchell in the sixth round (175th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. The Capitals have not signed the three players, they’ve merely retained their rights."

NBC Caps Penalty Conspiracy?
On "NHL This Morning" (or whatever the morning show on XM radio is called) "Judy" called in with a conspiracy theory, stating she felt like the Caps are hit extra hard with penalties when playing on NBC. It was an interesting comment, and seemed worthy of helping me bide my time until game 5...
Bottom Line: over the six NBC regular season games since 2003, the Caps are losing 32-38 in total penalties and 85-114 in PIM, but they're leading 6-5 in PP goals scored.

7 FEB Caps-Pens game ranked the best of the season - "that's just not 2009-2010, that's one of those regular games that people will just latch onto forever, especially in the Washington market, they'd been battered by a wicked snow storm, it was Super Bowl sunday, I mean everything about it was memorable, including yet another stunning performance from Alex Ovechkin"
And personally, to that epic day I can add hitching a ride to the game from Baltimore with a Pens fan on Japers' and breaking an ankle while walking around Baltimore that night...

2010-03-06 WSH-NYR Shift Chart
I can't take credit for the format (http://www.timeonice.com/) or the excel macro that builds it (coworker), but here's a shift chart from last nights game. If anyone wants the spreadsheet used to generate it, or wants to help tweak the code to make a better shift chart (my coworker left), send me an email at mvisotsk@vt.edu.
It'll be interesting to see how BB mixes up the pairings with the recent additions to the team.
Go Caps!
