Is there hope for Tyreke Evans?

If you isolate one player for hours and hours of film study, you begin to notice patterns you might miss or underestimate watching on a game-to-game basis. One such pattern: Sacramento’s Tyreke Evans spins probably more than anyone.

Raptors & Kings have struck a deal to send James Johnson to Sacramento for future second-rounder. Look for that one to be finalized Monday. Kings to add Johnson on last-year deal for their frontcourt rotation. Raps to shed a $2.8M salary

"Pretty soon you’re going to be like Manu [Ginobili]," [Cousins] yells, pointing good naturedly to Casspi’s thinning hair. Casspi laughs and tosses a comeback, something about playing as well as Manu. "No," Cousins says with a mischievous smile. "Not play like Ginobili! You’re losing your hair like him!"

Tyreke Evans: #22 on SLAM's Top 50 NBA players

6

Showing much promise as both a pick and roll ball handler and a post up option, a case could be made that Evans is the most versatile point guard in the League.

Whiteside's size, potential may outweigh maturity concerns

Lots of fun quotes from Hakeem Olajuwon in this article. "Olajuwon said he thinks it would be a mistake for a team to pick Whiteside and then send him to the D league in the same fashion that Memphis did with Thabeet last season."

"You hear them," Martin said of the trade whispers. "But you just listen to the smart people when it comes to that. And that’s Geoff Petrie. I know that they’re just rumors and I’ll keep it at that."

Westphal: "If you can get the blend right and let them play to their strengths and they complement each other well, I think we might surprise some people sooner rather than later."

Sean May Has a $100K Weight Clause in His Contract

7

"$100,000 of [Sean May's] deal is not guaranteed. May can get that $100,000 back if he shows up on either Sept. 30 (before the start of training camp) or Oct. 27 (before the start of the season) and, at either time, weighs 265 pounds or less."

Life in NBA not as easy as planned for ex-Syracuse star Greene

2

As for the draft and the growing number of players leaving school early, Greene has given the matter a lot of thought. If a player isn't absolutely certain he's a lottery pick, Greene knows exactly what he'd advise. "I would say stay in school," he says.

TrueHoop: In the Room With the Ping Pong Balls

2

Henry Abbott writes about the lottery room with an interview with the non-Maloof Kings' owner John Kehriotis, and how Washington was even more unlucky then our Kings.

Scott Howard-Cooper: When it comes to the draft, Rubio gets in line behind Griffin

4

My favorite ex-Bee writer writes: The Kings, with the greatest chance to draw the first pick in the May 19 lottery, have an obvious need for a point guard over a power forward -- Beno Udrih is a train wreck and the 6-11 Jason Thompson, the No. 12 pick last year, has a future. There's also the consideration that the fan base has gone from legendarily good to frustrated by the direction of the franchise. The Kings finished last in the league in attendance this season, a notion no one would have dared suggest a couple of years ago. (Utah's Brevin Knight, on the new Arco Arena atmosphere: "It's sad." Pau Gasol, after Lakers fans shouted down Sacramento fans in April: "I can't imagine how bad it would make me feel if I was a Kings player.") But if Griffin is bottom-line better than Rubio through the very few individual workouts they consent to, and it's not a close vote right now, the Kings go Griffin as the practical move and the safe move. Besides, they're only one season into a regrettable five-year deal with Udrih, and president Geoff Petrie is notoriously patient.
