The Dodgers’ new owners could reap hundreds of millions of dollars in benefits from the confidential terms of a U.S. Bankruptcy Court settlement between former owner Frank McCourt and Major League Baseball.

The terms can be enforced for up to 40 years, with final authority over distribution of the Dodgers’ television revenue granted to the court rather than to MLB, according to two people familiar with the sale process but not authorized to discuss it. As a result, the Dodgers’ new owners could retain millions each year that otherwise would be shared with other teams.

...

McCourt took the Dodgers into bankruptcy last year, after Selig rejected a proposed television contract with Fox Sports. That contract called for the Dodgers to receive a minority ownership stake in Prime Ticket and annual rights fees starting at $84 million, with an annual increase of 4%.

The league takes 34% of each team's television revenue and distributes it to other teams via revenue sharing. The league can assess an additional charge if it determines a team-owned television outlet is paying an annual rights fee under fair market value.

Under the confidential terms of the settlement with McCourt, the league agreed that the annual rights fees in the proposed Fox contract represented fair market value, according to three people familiar with the sale agreement.

Guggenheim Baseball, the Dodgers’ new owners, can negotiate a new television contract as soon as this fall, with Fox Sports, Time Warner Cable and perhaps CBS expected to bid. If the Dodgers accept an annual rights fee, they would simply pay 34% of whatever money they receive into the revenue-sharing pool.

However, the Dodgers are expected to pursue a regional sports network, on their own or in partnership with Fox, TWC or another television outlet. Guggenheim could establish a media company separate from the Dodgers, then have the company pay the team in accordance with the proposed Fox contract and keep the remaining revenue.

The difference could be tens of millions each year, according to media analysts.

Records show in the last year Power Balance Pavilion has lost $18 million dollars to the current value of $29 million for the parcel the arena sits on. Last year the county assessor listed its value at $47 million before the Maloofs appealed and the county settled on $38 million.

"The way I look at negotiations is it can always come back. You never say never. These things are never final. Trust me," George Maloof told USA TODAY Sports. "I've been around enough negotiating over the last 30 years of my life to know that deals die and they come back. Somebody sleeps on it, they take a break and they say, 'You know what, maybe we consider this. … '

"It's a way of coming back as long as people don't give up. And I never give up. We'll never give up."

Loeb & Loeb, the law firm out of Southern-California that represents Maloof Sports and Entertainment, has hired a former-FBI-agent-turned-private-detective to investigate some strange dealings surrounding the arena deal collapse ...

... I spoke with the private investigator this afternoon in person, and I left the meeting with the feeling that the Maloof family is prepared to undertake great measures to ensure their side of the story regarding the arena deal collapse is told. It has been his observation that the Johnson administration has not broken any laws, but is participating in a campaign of misinformation, most likely to save political face in an election year.

The "Alternative Plan", first reported by FOX on Wednesday, to provide an answer to the Sacramento arena problem and keep the Kings here has been rejected by the Maloofs. A Maloof spokesman issued the following statement this afternoon.

"A representative of the Maloofs listened to their plan in depth, but they do not have the financing in place and a renovation of the existing structure is not an adequate solution."

Sactown Royalty A Quick Evil Poll

This isn't about what you think will happen and not even what you want to happen. Obviously there are other alternatives but I was curious if these were your only two choices for how things play out at the BoG the next two days, which of the two would you pick?

Option A: The Maloofs cannot convince a majority of owners to let them file for relocation and the NBA and the Maloofs figure a way to resolve the pre-development issues; however, that's it, the status quo is kept and the ESC project moves along. The Maloofs keep ownership, the ESC project moves along with the pre-development costs issues dealt with but that's it. The only assurances we get from the Maloofs are a few interviews that they are "100% behind the project" but no special contract being signed guaranting the rest of the money, merely the league thinks the plan is fair and it will move along so long as everyone gets along. Please note, under this option we are assuming there are no assurances either way as to whether the Maloofs will hold up this project further down the road.

Option B: Again, the Maloofs cannot convince a majority of owners to let them file for relocation but the league has also called into question the Maloofs and their fiability as NBA franchise owners and the Maloofs begin to threaten an anti-trust suit against the league, arguing that the league's rules prohibiting relocation are an unlawful restrain on trade under Article 1 of the Sherman Act and also make a few other claims such as the Commissioner's Office has breached it's fiduciary duty with the Maloofs in its conduct and communications with the City and AEG. In the process, the current ESC plan is completely off schedule and all parties back out until the issue between the NBA and the Maloofs are resolved. Please note, under this option we are assuming there is no smoking gun either way, it's a toss up for all we know.

So, as a Kings fan, which option do you pick if you are stuck having to pick only between these two options?

Sacramento Taxpayers Opposed to Pork, or S.T.O.P., told KCRA 3 it had discovered a "technical glitch" in the language of its petition. The petition referred to the initiative by two different titles.

The city attorney's office had already approved the petition last Tuesday, but S.T.O.P. has decided to correct the mistake and resubmit the petition.

You know, I'm more hopeful than I am confident right now. I'm hopeful because the city of Sacramento has between last meeting and this, has been responsible for responding on a sponsorship basis, on a ticket basis and on allocating $250 million or so for a new arena. In basically a week — what's today? Wednesday — in a week, our owners will be coming in for meetings next Thursday and next Friday, and we'll be having the Maloofs in to talk with some group of them and we'll see where it's going. Very, very hopeful that it gets on track, because the owners have a respect for the Maloofs. And I think the owners also have an enormous respect for what Sacramento has done over the years in supporting an NBA franchise. And it's always been our first preference — particularly when government agencies or states are helpful — to keep a team where a team is if they're playing in a good facility.

The Kings, according to a source, will not be offering Thompson -- no longer starting in Sacramento and posting career lows in points and rebounds -- an extension.

Interesting read given (a) we are playing the Raptors next and (b) how the coaching change with few personnel changes have so far affected the Raptors defensive play this year.

Does he need Lebron? Durant? CP3? Psh, please. Rubio? Griffin? Yeah right. Funny team name? Fuck it, he rolls Primo style. And Primo don't need no stinking super stars or All-Rookie/Sophomores. And in the process, he will destroy the universe.

Below you'll find a recap of the comings and goings of the first two weeks of the Unofficial StR Fantasy Basketball League.

Sactown Royalty Laziest Fanpost About Cousins

Back in June of 2010, BearKing (miss the bastard by the way) wrote a fanpost titled A Beautiful Mind. In the fanpost he talked about seeing some Barkely swagger in DMC and made the point that, "[I]nstead of looking at DeMarcus' qualities as a crutch that will be his end, why not see it as the FIRE that keeps his motor running and motivates him to become one of the elites?"

Anywho, for whatever reason the fanpost made me think enough to write entirely too much on my views on DMC who if everyone remembers I was a little nervous about. Basically, I am too lazy to write something new on DMC but I still feel the same way I did back then so I am just going to throw down a few of the comments below, although a little altered to make a little more sense in this context (okay one part I left out because dumb).

Sactown Royalty Unofficial StR Fantasy Basketball Draft 11-12

Okay, I’ll admit it: fantasy basketball is about the most useless thing ever, right along with YouTube basketball mix tape videos. But you know what? I LOVE YOUTUBE BASKETBALL MIXTAPE VIDEOS!!!I love nothing more than watching slow motion high definition slam dunks to horrible music and I sure as heck love playing fantasy basketball. But this time it’s far from frivolous because 11 of the greatest and most elite fantasy basketball competitors who were able to pass the rigors of sending me an email within a reasonable amount of time have decided to battle it out in a no holds barred steal gage death match known as 12-team, $200 auction, head-to-head fantasy basketball in order to achieve the greatest glory of them all. I present to you: The Saucy.

After the jump, a running diary of the Unofficial Sactown Royalty Basketball Draft presented with special holiday cheer and links and stupidity for everyone (don’t be afraid to click on the links on the player names within the text of the post because they are a bunch of stupid links and may include a ninja or two). Let the games begin!

Sactown Royalty The Unofficial STR Fantasy Basketball League!!!

Love your Kings and want to feel a closer connection to them but can't? On most days, I try to fill that void by doing things like looking at the Clark County Assessor's files on the Palms and laughing at how little that property is worth now compared to how much money was put into it by some guys who only have a 2% interest. Well no need for that now because all you need to do to fill that Kings basketball void is bid bid bid! Yes that's right, the very competitive Unofficial STR Fantasy Basketball League is wrapping up, but hell that was just a lockout exercise. Now it's time for the real thing: The Unofficial Fantasy Basketball League is here and it's going to be an auction league. Hey, you want Chris Paul on your team? Well, you can! The Malindas aren't willing to pay Chandler? Well, you can! Details below but if you are interested, go ahead and shoot me an email at wallywagon11@yahoo.com.

[Edit: just realized I never said it but this is an ESPN league.]

[UPDATE: As of 7:00 pm December 9th we only have three spots left

Sactown Royalty Unofficial StR Fantasy Football League

I know this has nothing to do with the Kings or the NBA or being a normal person.  Just wanted to see if the people of StR would be interested in another fantasy football league this year.  I set up a league over at ESPN.  12 team, basic settings, snake draft.  Draft order determined by who contacts me first so if you say nothing I'll bump you up to the top and if you ask for a specific spot I will put you there or as close as I can get while I get the left over spot at the end (for example, if you ask for the 10th spot and someone took it before you, I will first look at the 9 spot and then the 11 spot unless you tell me you really want to make sure you are in the back).  Draft would be on Tuesday, AUGUST 30th at 7pm Pacific Time.  Whether you are a commentor or just a lurker, you are invited.  All I ask is that you don't join if you aren't in it for the long hall because I am setting it up as a keeper league (2 players).  My email is wallywagon11@yahoo.com.  First come, first serve (usually check after work so might not return league info until the evening) and Kings related Kings names

Sorry, would do something a little more basketball related; however, considering there is nothing going on basketball related, well yeah.
