Big Blue View New Shoes (ny Giants style)

I don't work for Nike, I work for the US Navy. This post will not make me any money nor is it trying to be an advertisement. However I just wanted to let you guys know that you can get custom made NikeID shoes with ny Giants colors and official logos. They are pretty sick seeing how you can choose from a few different models of shoes and change multiple colors on the shoes themself. Well you can choose Giants colors. Thought you guys would enjoy looking at the very least and for the guys who have cash to burn, like me, go ahead a splurge for the upcoming season haha. Nike.com and click on the NikeID option.

Big Blue View Trading Up

Don't get me wrong here. I absolutely do not think we will actually move up in the draft in the first round to pick a certain player. However, you know Jerry Reese has at least explored the possibility and done his due diligence that if said player does drop to X number in the first round would he be willing to make a move on him. We clearly will not move into the top half of the draft. What I would like to explore is if a certain player does make it into the low 20s, say for instance a Michael Floyd or Luke Kuechly would we at least consider moving up to grab him. I know this post has Uncle Fester written all over it without the GIF. Most likely the Giants do in fact stay the course and stay at pick 32 and take a guy who falls through the cracks and lands right in our laps. It's what I expect the Giants to do. But the possibility always looms out there. I would like to know starting at say pick 20 if a certain top 15 guy falls like Kuechly or Floyd would you want to make a move. Go ahead and feel free to name any players that if they did fall to the low 20s would be worth moving up to grab. This post isn't for people who say we aren't moving up to grab a player, its intended to get a bit of discussion on what player would be worth nabbing in that range (low to mid 20s) that clearly has no chance making it to pick 32.

Big Blue View The O Line

So after it's been confirmed that Chris Snee played through injury this season I think we need to reevaluate the issue that was the offensive line this season. I for one will not make any excuses for the ability, or lack there of for the run games woes this past season. But let's take a look at the starters.

David Diehl- Confirmed that he played with a broken hand during the season.

Chris Snee- Offseason Elbow surgery procedure.

David Baas- Missed several games this season with neck and other issues.

William Beatty- Missed the 2nd half of the season with a detached retina. Put on IR.

Kareem MacKenzie- Released in the offseason following the Super Bowl. No reports on if he was suffering any injuries. However PFF had him graded among the best RTs in the league in 2010 and he took a tremendous fall in 2011 from what we all got used to in 2010. I'd put my money on that he had his ailments.

Some injuries, guys attempt to play through like say for instance our very own Justin Tuck. But as we all could see this year Justin was not his usual self. He struggled mightily throughout the season. Heck the dude even called himself out for his play. He did not perform up to expectations for most of the season. But at the end of the regular season it seemed as if Tuck got healthy. His game certainly elevated and he was the player we are accustomed to watching on Sundays and throughout the playoffs.

Now getting back to where this started. Several Giants fans have been clamoring for an infusion of talent on the Oline. Petrus should be ready to step up and start at guard. Brewer may not be ready for a starters spot quite yet either, but he is on his way. Some may point to the obvious fact that these players were not "1st" round products and won't be that good. However the Giants normally groom later round draft picks into viable starters in the future. If the line returns healthy we may not actually need to worry about the position as much. Sure they are getting older, we all are and we have 8 picks in this draft. At least one will be used on the line but unless a top guy falls in round 1 we will look to bolster another area on the team.

I believe that if this unit can stay healthy and not have to be reshuffled for long stretches of the season that they will become much more fluid and capable in 2012. The running game did look better in the playoffs and the line as a whole played much better during that time period as well. Save for the San Fran game, but sometimes the other unit is just superior and in that match up it was clearly obvious that the 49ers had an elite front 7. The Giants will not make any drastic moves as we have no cap space to sign a lineman worth more than the leagues veteran minimum.

Thoughts???

Big Blue View Best Player Available

I'm not here to tell you about which players are better than other players. I am not claiming to be in the same league of knowledge as BBI, Rorchach, ct17 or any of our resident college football elitists. I do not go over film, and I barely have any access to NFL footage unless it's live over here in Japan. But I have been following the Giants for quite a long time, not as long as Bobbiblue or Landeta for that matter but I am a student of the game and I have studied our drafting technique for several seasons. I am not claiming to be as knowledgeable about football like the sunlions or dannymacs either here.

What I do know is that for rounds 1, 2 and 3, is that the Giants will be looking to add an extremely versatile athletic guy who has high potential, loads of speed, and excellent strength. The Giants like to focus the talent on the team in 3 places. Besides Eli who is a rock and we don't need to worry about his replacement for several seasons anyways, the main 3 are the DLine, WR and the secondary. Injuries can take their toll on the season, or even the preseason for that matter. Having young starter quality depth in the 3 most important positions on this team was instrumental in our success this year. You do not pigeonhole your team by drafting for the "N" word. You build it around your strengths and you continue to add pieces to those already strong position groups due to the fact that, that depth is without a doubt going to see some action during the course of a grueling season. The Giants and more specifically Jerry Reese has said that you can never have enough pass rushers or coverage guys. The drop off in talent in the later rounds for the DLine and secondary is immense. Certainly you can get lucky and find a Victor Cruz off the streets but we have spent multiple high picks on WR as well in the past. I know ct17 put a post up on MTD and likely here as well describing the draft history of the Giants and how much they love drafting and grooming the 3 positions I have mentioned here.

Do not freak out when we don't draft an OLineman or a TE in the first 2 rounds. Unless Jerry feels that guy fits the mold and character of what we are trying to do here, which if your not paying attention is to make the playoffs and repeat. The Giants build the team with an eye for the future, not who is going to start week 1 of the 2012 season. The guys they draft will be on the roster for 4 years on average and will be given a chance to prove themselves. Make no mistake about it. We are the 2011 World Champions for a reason. Jerry Reese finds outstanding talents early and bolsters the strengths of this franchise every year, keeping the future in mind. He may not have a crystal ball but he understands the concept of free agency better than any of us here. You cannot afford to stock your roster with all-pros at every position. You can however provide incredible depth at the peak positions every year to keep your team in the playoff hunt year in and year out. Once you get in the dance, anything can happen. The Giants have proved that the in 2 of the past 5 years.

In rounds 4-7 all you do is look for depth. Hopefully Jerry can pull the rabbit out of the hat and the coaching staff can groom a possible replacement or starter in the coming years. You do not expect any of these guys to be starting year 1 and you hope that they progress and can learn the system and their responsibilities. You will see a few more "need" picks in these rounds, matched with good value of course in order to round out the team and fill position requirements for the upcoming season.

On a side note with our current cap situation,I, like many others here, do not anticipate us signing any free agents, excpet for our own. We will not be splurging like the Dream Team did last season. We will likely add some depth at the veteran's minimum and we will look toward the draft to fill the rest of our position needs. I am good with this. I won't pretend to understand how the cap actually works, even though I did read ct17s in depth analysis a week back or so. I know we don't have the money to sign a John Abraham. I know guys like Vincent Jackson are going to get paid. The Giants need to keep the talent that is already on this team on this team. In 2013 we have several guys who we "NEED" to keep on this roster imo. I guarantee you that JR is already looking towards that season and how he has to manipulate the cap in order to keep the core of this roster intact.

PS... Thanks for the Super Bowl memories Rio, have fun catching passes from a QB that doesn't quite measure up to the ELIte level.

Big Blue View Playoffs Fuhgeddabout it...

Well I haven't had the interwebz on my Imac in almost 2 and a half months. Nov 29th-Feb13th... Basically been without it until I got to Japan on the Imac at least. I did have a little access for around 2 weeks while I was on leave in Colorado. I have had it while in Japan for about a month on my cell phone. So what am I getting at here...

Well my Imac remembers everything for me so I dont have to...it logs into Facebook, SBnation my Email...yada yada yada. So I just hooked up my interwebs about 10 minutes ago and yall know whos logging on BBV to see what the scoop is...Well the last page it remembered was still on there for about 2 seconds until it loaded the new one. It was the title of my fanpost. We just got crushed by the Saints and I had no internet so I never got to even read this post by Ed. I didnt have internet when we lost to the Skins the second time, in fact I chose snowboarding over watching that game because we don't get snow in Okinawa and I knew it would be a long time before I could ride again. Plus there was no way we would lose to the Skins right...Ah bad times... I guess... but I didn't have to live the agony on BBV as much as few of you guys around here cause I had no internet access.

Well I have learned one thing this past season.

YOU DON'T DOUBT ELI MANNING AND YOU NEVER COUNT THE GMENNNNN!

Big Blue View I dont know where to start

I never questioned this team. I never called for TCs head, for PFs head for KGs head...that's not me. It never has been it will never be that way for me. I was raised a NYG fan for life, but never experienced the pressure that NY provides the Gmen. I will say this though, I have been in ALL IN since day one. That day started when I was 6 years old and my faith in this franchise has never wavered. I am the optimists optimist. I am the TITO of all Eli belief. My Facebook post all post season has been #fearthelowercaseny...I bELIeve...#FINISH... I want only wins. I dont care about stats. Never have never will. I care about one thing...The NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS!. Them and them only (and the girl i will propose to), I measure success like the pundits like Tony Dungy and Joe Montana. Super Bowls are the ultimate baby. And guess what Gmen fans. We are again the very best in the business. No one can take this away. We are the WORLD CHAMPS!!! Live life like a CHAMPION. Eagles fans can only beg to know what's its like

Big Blue View How sweet it is

After listening to all the hate we got in the preseason for not doing anything splashy this one might take the cake. Not only did we cripple the NY Jets playoff chances who I could give a crap about, I just think it's funny because that team consistently runs it's mouth yet has nothing to show for it. We eliminated the dream team from Philly at the same time. Now we have given ourselves a meaningful game in the biggest showdown of the season next week at home. Truly to eliminate the Eagles the Cowboys and to cripple the Jets playoff chances is all you can ask for at this moment.

We control our destiny and a win next Sunday will bring in the New Year like a Baas. I want the NFC East crown and Tony Romo's hand for dessert. Let's do this baby. GMEN4LYPHE.

Big Blue View Victor Cruz (Keep ya head up)

Hakeem is going to benefit alot with Cruz on the field.  He has come very big and yet made a few critical mistakes that cost us the game.  The play call, tough to question but if he doesn't slip then that may have been a touchdown or at worst the ball on the 2.  He caught that ball one handed anyways at least until he got hit.  He made two ridiculous plays that gave us the chance to win that game.  Cruz is very young still, in relative terms to the NFL.  He is already making huge plays in the passing game for us.  He is going to have some growing pains.  You wanted him to break out didn't you.  Teams will struggle to cover Hakeem Mario and Cruz if they are on the field at the same time.  Teams will also have to respect Cruz beating them deep or burning them for a big play which opens up the game for Nicks.

Victor_cruz--300x300_medium

via www.nypost.com

Yes I realize he cost us the game here but Victor Cruz has arrived fellas.  If the dude somehow doesn't keep posting these types of games it's because teams are shading a safety on him more and Nicks and Ham are eating up the coverage.

My views on the team:  I live and die with team every Sunday.  Win or lose.  Like Tupac, I always keep my head up.  We still had a chance to win that game at the very end.  We played like shit this past Sunday.  That will happen over the course of a season.  We will lose another game this season with how many tough opponents we have on the schedule.  All hope is not lost.

Big Blue View Antrel Rolle

I don't seem to understand why everyone doesn't like his mouth.  I love it!  I want this man amping our team up, letting the opposition know that we are ready, that the Giants don't back down from a challenge.  Rolle may not always choose his words so carefully like Tom Coughlin does.  He may spout off from time to time.  He backs it up, every play, every game. The dude is a beast out on the field.  He is a playmaker and his swagger influences the way this defense plays.  Run your mouth Rolle.  And then run someone the F*&% over.

TUCK AND ROLLE ALL DAY BABY!

Big Blue View What do the Giants currently have?

We all knew we were going to be losing a few guys.  It happens every year.  Goodbye Boss, Smith, Brofield and surely a few LBs I won't even name, and a few good ole boys on the OL.  Change has come for the Giants, as they are looking to get younger across the board.  You can whine and cry about the salary cap restrictions from this year, but the fact is we had a very real chance to make some noise last season.  So Jerry was allowed to spend it up to try and help us win a SuperBlow.  That failed, and nobody in the course of history could have predicted what the new agreement would be.  NO ONE.  So don't say Jerry screwed the pooch on this one.  Did you want to win last year?  We all wanted to get into the playoffs last season, it didnt happen but Reese gave us every chance to get there.  He is doing the same thing right now.  In order to get better this current Giants team needed to get younger, to get rid of the old players, the hurt players, and the replaceable players.  All 3 of the players I mentioned above all fall in within the context of my previous statement.

Now to get to the beef.  What we currently have on the roster and who we know WILL make the team.  This is not my attempt to guess at roster spots.  I will also not cover every position, just the guys who we know will make plays for us all season long.

We got a couple of beasts lining up on the outside for us this year.   Did I mention that they are only in their 3rd and 4th years respectively.  Both Manningham and Nicks have big play potential on every play, and since their arrival they have improved their play each season.  Sure we do not know who are 3rd WR is going to be at this point, but there is alot of promising talent sitting behind this two headed dragon.

Lining up in the backfield we have a two headed monster.  They will provide a balanced offense as the Giants look to ground and pound opponents.  Did I mention the fact that we will be able run left this year.  That is going to make a huge difference in our game.

OL  Now I did look pretty hard to find a nice picture of Kevin Boothe big ass.  But I couldnt find one.  Besides Madden is the only guy who wants to see or talk about Olinemans sweaty jocks.  So here's a picture of Reby instead.

The Giants drastically improved their Oline, but it didnt make noise waves like all the Philly signings.  We now have a much better tackle in William Beatty then we did last year and a healthy center and new addition David Baas.  David Diehl is moving inside to his real position and he will have a much easier time handle defensive tackles than speed rushers.  We know what we have in Snee and Mac on the right side.  If this group stays healthy we will be running the ball down the collective throat of the opposition.

DL

O Boy O Boy O Boy O Boy  Seriously I'm positive that a few of the pessimists on here forget that the Giants have the friggen best Dline in the league.  And the talent that is waiting behind the starters is ridiculous .

Let's not forget the main man on defense.  We know what he all is the best defensive player on the team.

Lets not forget the fact that Chris Canty is the one who actually draws the double team.  Lets see what happens when Linval gets reps this season.  The dude is mammoth.  How about a nightmare for opposing QBs

Why sign a FA when the best possible LB out there for the Giants is already on the Giants.  It was our LB signing of the offseason...duh.  Teams just aren't going to be able to run the ball on us on 1st or 2nd down when he is in the game.  Boley is a solid starter and good in pass coverage and Goff will improve in his second year of the defense.  The dude in the middle is a thumper.  He had several tackles for a loss last season and he will also help deny the run game.  His is 25 years old and going into his 2nd year in Fewell's scheme.

Both are reliable.  Both are above average corners.  Sure TT gets burnt from time to time, but WRs get paid too.  There's also the fact that we got Prince on the bench, sure he got hurt but it's only a broken bone, quick healing time compared to say micro fracture surgery.  Prince has a good chance to make a difference later in the season.

It's year two for Kenny Phillips.  No silly not in his career, in his recovery from the surgery way back in 09.  Yea he's going to be back this season again.  Let me repeat that.  Kenny Philips is going to be back this season.  The old Kenny Phillips.  The dude we watched eat Tony Romo up in the first game at Jerrahworld.  I think he is going to have a Osi type season for the coverage unit.  Which brings me to Antrel Rolle.  He was able to move around last season and play close to the line, but he did not have the type of season anyone expected.  Well that's because it is hard to get a pick 6 let alone just the pick when your playing up so close to the line.  Kenny isn't playing centerfield this season, he's moving back to safety where he should be.  Antrel is taking someone to the house this season, and I'm going to put my money that it's going to be on Mike Vick.

See all hope is not lost.  Show some faith, some love for your team.  GO GMEN!!!

Big Blue View Coughlin's rookies

There are lots of UDFA trying out for the team this camp, along with the 8(when PA signs) draft picks we acquired in April.  Who knows who will make the team this year let alone have a real impact on the team.  There are sure to be gripes as the season unfolds as to why some of these "rookies" are not seeing the field besides on special teams.  With such a short time to prepare the first year guys will not likely be able to contribute much to the Giants right away.  Now I know we all are interested in seeing what these guys that we got so hyped on in April are capable of, but the fact remains that Coach Coughlin will be hard pressed to let any of his rooks get much playing experience early in the year.  Hopefully a few of these players can make an impact on Special Teams, because if we improve that aspect of the game we could be very dangerous.

Big Blue View The secondary (Rolle n Phillips)

After the Giants decided to not bring back Deon Grant for this year, and with no other safety's able to start this season (Sash shouldn't be starting), will the Giants show an improvement in the secondary?

At times last season this unit played very well, it was against that top notch competition that we struggled.  We all know Antrel can be a game changer at safety, displaying the ability to make a play happen in the air and return it to the house.  Unfortunately Antrel's roll was different here in NY then it was in Arizona.

Which brings me to Kenny Phillips.  KP was protected last year according to DC Perry Fewell.  Now after having an additional season to heal that knee, should Giants fans expect KP to come back and be that dominant player we saw against the Cowboys two years ago.  Osi needed that 2nd year and look what he did.  Just beast his way to an NFL record 10 FF.  I'm really hoping that Kenny turns the page this year, because our defense will be a whole lot better if Kenny is allowed to roam and do this thang.

Big Blue View Against player workouts/minicamps during the lockout

I for one think that all this talk about players holding there own minicamps should be eliminated.  I for one do not want to see any of our own players injured let alone anyone else.  The players are out there risking their careers and due to the lockout there will be no workout bonuses, let alone a check from the team.  The NFL is cutting costs around the league, by slashing coaches salaries or flat out letting people go.  Player organized workouts/minicamps, which means no coaches there for the younger guys could result in: injuries, poor technique, improper reads, the list could go on and on.  Eli Manning and Justin Tuck are the leaders of this team, but they are not coaches.  The owners are making out like bandits here, as the players are still trying to work and get together, yet they will not get paid for this. Now I get the picture that players want to stay proactive so when a deal does get in place they are closer to the curve, but I just feel its a damn shame that these guys are out there busting there butts without a paycheck while guys like Jerry Jones try to steal more money.

Denver Stiffs Pile the hate on

My favorite NFL team is the NY Giants.  Its where I was born and raised.  I converted to a Nuggets fan after Michael Jordan retired.  Sorry for liking Jordan and the Bulls but as a 7 year old, Michael Jordan was mesmerizing.  I was a fickle kid from New Jersey.  I now claim to be a die hard Nuggets fan.  And I am, just like I bleed blue for my NY Giants.  I see a common theme between my two favorite teams.  I religiously follow both teams, perhaps the Giants more because football flows in my blood, but I love my Nuggets like I love myself...

The common denominator I see between these two team is the compassion to fight when the odds are stacked against us.  The Giants seem to play better when nobody thinks they have a chance.  They are at there best when their backs are against the wall, fighting for their lives.  Now the past few season my Giants have seen several injuries which derailed their chances, and although every team sees injuries, the WR corps being decimated severely hurts your chances against top competition like Philadelphia and Green Bay.  This is very comparable to losing Kmart and the Coach this previous season (2010).  There is absolutely no way the Giants blow that 21 point lead against Philly with Steve Smith in the offense.  Besides Wes Welker he is best slot receiver in the league.  One first down wins the game.  I guarentee he gets that if hes in the game... The Nuggets are starting to see injuries pile up throughtout the lineup.  Triple A is banged up, Ray Felton is hurting, so is Ill Will and Danilo.  This team is strong, but how strong?  OKC will present a very difficult matchup in the first round and we are most surely going to meet them.  The Nuggets are not favored to win this series just like my Giants were not favored in 2007 when they shocked the world and the undefeated Patriots.  But just like my NY Giants the Denver Nuggets seem to thrive on adversity.  I am psyched for these playoffs just as when I was when we made the WCF and lost to LA..  This team is incredibly deep and its the only thing keeps my mind off this goddamn lockout.  I tend to be pissed at the NBA due to David Stern, but Damnit doesnt some team need to throw a wrench into his Lakers vs Lakers final!!!

By the way not many analysts are giving our Nugs a chance against the superstars they have in OKC...

Denver Stiffs ESPN front page fodder

Looks like the Knicks finally broke that 6 game losing streak.  Looks like Melo is the superstar of the night jacking up almost 30 shots to get almost 40 points.  Very pathetic that ESPN puts this garbage as its headliner.  The Knicks are going to get swept in the first round anyways.  GO NUGS...I hope we can make some noise this year in the playoffs, just to shut up the haters in the national media.

Big Blue View Weapons for Eli

Last season we saw a run of games where the offense just clicked.  The Giants proved near unstoppable when they had the ball.  For five games straight we were a juggernaut.  Then things quickly started going downhill as several injuries to our top WR severely impacted our chances.  Cruz was placed on IR too early. Losing Barden to IR and Smith and Hakeem in bunches destroyed our offensive continuity.  We did see Manningham step up.   Eli would surely like to have another weapon to groom.  AJ Green and Julio Jones are out of the question since they will be taken earlier.  The Giants are not drafting a WR in the first round, however there are 6 other rounds to address another target for Eli.  You know the Gunslinger wants another toy in that toolbox he has.  Now sure Kyle Rudolph could be an option in round one, but I don't think the Giants will gamble on him.  Since Kevin Gilbride doesn't utilize the TE anyway I will take a look at a WR in rounds 2-4.  The Giants love selecting WR in top 3 rounds.  Go look it up if you don't believe me.  I personally think the trend will continue.

Possible receivers available in rounds 2-4.  Anyone is subject to slip due to injury/character concerns.

Torrey Smith - 6'1" 205 lbs (Maryland) This guy can run a sub 4.4 40 and is explosive in the return game.  41" vertical A good place for rookies to learn on the Giants.

Leonard Hankerson 6"2' 210 lbs (Miami) kind of reminds me of our very own Hakeem Nicks.  Clocked at 4.45 in the 40.  vertical 36" Should be a fringe 2nd rounder.

Jonathan Baldwin- 6'4" 230 lbs (Pitt) Ran a 4.45 with a 42" vertical.  May slip due to character concerns.  This guy is a huge target and he's actually got some wheels.

Jerrel Jernigan 5"9" 185 lbs (Troy) Lighting fast multiple sub 4.4 40 times posted.  38" vertical. Explosive in traffic, this is one guy I'm hoping the Giants target in round 3

Titus Young 5-11 175 lbs (Boise State) 4.43 4o time 35" vertical this guy is going to make big plays in the passing game.

Randall Cobb 5"10" 190 lbs (Kentucky)  4.43 40 time vertical 34" Cobb is an all purpose type player who the Giants could use in the return game.

Edmund Gates 6'0" 190 lbs (Abilene Christian) 4.35 40 time vertical 40" excellent talent from small school whos projected to go in the 3rd.

Big Blue View Draft day trades

With the current lockout in place and no players under contract there can not be any draft day trades. At least it wouldn't make any sense. How could you trade someone not under contract? Perhaps some teams will trade draft choices for other draft choices, but unless a new CBA is in place I can't fathom any players switching teams. If no deal is in place the Giants would be wise to draft BPA, even if it's a DE/DT. Other thoughts from inside my head. Getting a deal in place would greatly benefit the Eagles who are shopping Kevin Kolb. Most teams will take BPA approach unless a QB is absolutely needed. There will be a few teams reaching for a QB out of fear of losing him in the next round. Carson Palmer may also be available. The drama of these possible trades greatly effects draft day ratings. It would be wise to get a deal in soon. Can we afford Nnamdi? Why not? Can we shed some salary in other areas to bring him in? I think the Giants will take a look at him, but I won't be too upset if we don't win the Nnamdi sweepstakes. Just don't let him go to Dallas or Philly. Washington will still stink IMO even if they get him. the Raiders had alot of struggles and the Skins are in the same boat.

Denver Stiffs The aftermath...

Look, most Stiffs and fellow Nugget fans have spent the entire season wondering whats going to happen to our star player.  Is Carmelo going to Lebron us, or will the Nuggets be smart enough to trade him?  Well it all finally happened a few weeks ago.  So how does this shake out for the Nugs?

Carmelo and Chauncey were both the 3rd pick in the draft.  The other Nuggets involved were not consistent contributors IMO to be relevant here

We received Raymond Felton the number 5 pick 5 years ago, Danilo Gallinari the number 6 pick 2 years ago and Wilson Chandler the number 23 pick 3 years ago.  All three were first rounders.  Mozgov went undrafted and we also scored 3 draft picks, one of which is a first.

Now I'm pretty positive most of us will miss Chauncey and what he brought to the team, however Raymond Felton will quickly make us forget all about ole CB.  I've been secretly wanting Felton for years and now we have an extremely young backcourt in TyLaw and RayFelt and 2 deadly SGs in Energizer (AAA) and Swish.

But what about Carmelo and his 26 points of offense a night?  What on 25 shots?  No thanks, and yea I still love me some Melo, the dude can straight ball out, but Melo where's the defense?  I would rather have Danilo and Chandler then just Carmelo.  Not to mention Danilo and Chandler actually play a little defense.

Whats that you say about defense?  Not the Nuggets, surely they couldn't play any lock down defense.  Truth is we couldn't.  At least not for a full game.  Sans Anthony the Nuggets look determined on the defensive end anchored by another 1st rounder Kenyon Martin.  He was actually taken #1 overall in the 2000 draft.

The team stacks up like this

PG Lawson/Felton

PG Smith/AAA

SF Galli/Chandler

PF/C Nene/Kmart/Anderson

We also have 2 7 footers, Mozgovs a rook and Koufa is in his 3rd year, what happens if some of these big develop?...

We have shooters, speed, defense, length, strength, you name it the Nuggets got it.  Post trade this Nuggets team is better, and I am amped up for the playoffs LETS DO THIS!!

Big Blue View My concerns heading into the lockout/draft

As we head into the 2011 draft lets take a look at what the Giants could/will be thinking by taking a look at the first 3 rounds (in order 1, 2, 3) in the past 6 years drafts.

2005 (No 1st) Corey Webster, Justin Tuck

2006 Mathias Kiwinuka, Sinorice Moss, Gerris Wilkinson

2007 Aaron Ross, Steve Smith, Jay Alford

2008  Kenny Phillips, Terrell Thomas, Mario Manningham

2009 Hakeem Nicks, 2 2nds..Clint Sintim, William Beatty, 2 3rds Ramses Barden, Travis Beckum

2010 Jason Pierre Paul, LInval Joseph, Chad Jones

Now I will break down position wise where the Giants value talent.

1st round 2 DEs, 2 DBacks 1 WR

2nd round 2 Dbacks, 2 WR, 1 DT, 1 OL, 1 LB

3 round 1 DE, 1 DT, 1 LB, 1 CB, 3 WR

Now lets count them up, because the top 3 are in the majority of making bigger contributions than rounds 4-7.

3 DEs, 2 DTs (thats a total of 5 Dlinemen)

6 WR (I think we are set here and most likely will not be taking a receiver in the draft, getting lots of talented players with different skill sets is important to Eli's progress)

5 Dbacks

1 OL

2 LB

Now depending on what happens with the CBA there could or could not be FA before the draft.  I think most owners/GMs and the like would prefer to have a new CBA in place in order to have the core players and FAs that are out there already signed, making the draft progress much easier because teams already know what they got.  Taking a look at the top 3 rounds we have 8 current starters, several young role players (who are getting better) and only 2 players that are not currently still with the team (Moss, Alford).

We most likely do not need to draft a receiver, but with as many injuries as the unit suffered last year a top talent could fall into our laps and the Giants have shown in the past they like WR early in the draft.  Kiwinuka is coming back (???) from a major injury and Barry Cofield may or may not get his big payday.  The Giants like taking defensive lineman early in the draft and most likely that trend will continue.  In case anyone forgot the Giants FO places more importance on the Dline than the LBs.  This is common among teams employing a 4-3 Defense.  The Giants also have placed a high importance in the secondary, and this years unit was one of the best the Giants have ever had.  Unfortunately it still has a long way to go, but addressing the LB situation this season could help out the safeties.

Now I personally think the Giants will take the best player on the board when they pick, excluding a QB.  The best players are usually DE, DT, CB, WR.  Sitting at the 19th pick, the Giants will be picking for value.  I've already laid out what the Giants have shown they value.  I'm putting my money on a defensive lineman or a defensive back in the first, and then OL and LB in the 2nd and 3rd.  History tends to repeat itself and organizations like the Giants thrive in selecting the BPA.

Big Blue View Teh LBz concernz

It seems this will continue to be a problem until it gets addressed in the draft.  Both owners have hinted that an upgrade is needed in the LB corpz.  Possibly we address this situation via free agency, which seems to be in the Giants plans every few years as we sign more free agent LBs than by drafting them.  Perhaps this season we change up the gameplan regarding one of our weaker areas.  I have seen that Travis Lewis is going back to Oklahoma and Bruce Carter will be coming off ACL surgery.  So let me ask a few of you draft experts out there...because Mel Kiper is a douche and well Todd McShay aint much better.  I visit Mockingthedraft and WalterFootball enough and it appears many believe Akeem Ayers out of UCLA may be the pick here?  Who knows, most likely a top DE will fall into our laps and we will end up taking them instead.  Who are if any besides Ayers would be a worthwhile, in a crapshoot draft to boot, to draft at any LB spot.

Discussion?...

Big Blue View The Defense Edition

A lot of talk has been thrown Eli's way due to his "Gunslinger" gameplay.  Eli has thrown the most picks in the league this year.  Big Deal.  Eli is Eli, we live and die by his throws.  GET OVER IT!!

We have a legit top 5 defense in the league.  Maybe the best defense in the league.  The Giants can contain and get pressure on Vick, they can contain Jackson and they can stop the run.  If the defense shows up on this Sunday, like they have played for the last 10 quarters allowing 13 points.  They have forced numerous 3 and outs and created heaps of turnovers.  We are tied for 1st in sacks.  1st in FF and total TOs.  We are 2nd in yardage allowed per team.  And we are moving up in points allowed, while currently sitting in 9th.  This defense bails Eli out all the time.  How many times this season has Eli left the Defense in a pickle sitting inside our own Red Zone.  And who bails them out with a FG attempt, or better yet a turnover.  This defense is built for the playoffs, and so is our running game.  Relax sit back and enjoy the game this weekend.  1st place in the division on the line, again, and the number 2 seed in sight.

Big Blue View Swagger

I am not going to reference anything that has come out of Antrel Rolle's mouth.  Or speculate for that matter what might have been said at halftime against the Jaguars.  What I do know, is that it has created some Swagger, perhaps the Old Spice type, and when the Giants start playing with Swagger they are unbeatable.  Our defensive intensity has upped the ante, and after a two and a half game lull they are back to stuffing the run and having some fun.  Will this effect be seen for an entire 60 minutes?  Probably not, as few teams are capable of putting together complete games on a regular basis.  It can however be infectious on the offense and lead the team to play more consistently down the stretch.

Big Blue View Bring the Blitz

I don't know how many times I yelled at the TV set at the bar on Sunday.  1st half was a complete disaster on defense.  I saw us just sitting in a base 4-3 the entire half, no creativity from Fewell.  Where are the blitzes that we saw against Vick?  In fact why aren't we blitzing more?  At the most crucial point in the game our D coordinator sent the blitz.  Back to back to back.  And it won us the game.  So let me ask why don't the Giants blitz more?  It is very effective, (sure you can get burned by the blitz) but I think the Giants need to incorporate more blitz packages.  Enough with this base bull#$@! and let's do the job you were hired to do Fewell.  Be creative, mix it up, show me you can get the D playing at a high level consistently.

Big Blue View Can the Eagles stop our offense?

The number two offense in the league belongs to the Giants.  The Eagles rank third.  We all know the Giants need to find away to contain Vick.  But can the Giants offense be stopped in this game?  We all know the Giants have been dominant on offense this season.  3 consecutive games with 480+ yards.  The last game we had under 400 yards was against the Bears and the Giants still had 372 while running out the clock in the 4th.  Hakeem Nicks is going to "step up and make big plays" this week.  We need to be able to run the ball effectively against the Eagles and we currently sit 5th in the league with 147 yards a game.  IF the Gmen show up and play disciplined football by protecting the ball we will be able to score alot of points.  We had 20 last week and had two TDs called back.  Could have been 35 points which is what we were averaging in the previous 4 weeks.  The Eagles defense can be had by dynamic 2nd year receivers, ... see Kenny Britt.  I seem to recall them allowing 27 fourth quarter points.  And the man who led those drives...none other than Kerry Collins.  Protect the rock, stay disciplined, contain Vick.  If we can do those 3 things then I feel good about our chances.  Even 2 of the 3 I feel good about our chances.  We can score at will if we don't stumble on our own two feet.

Big Blue View It's been a long time coming

I haven't been able to post for 28 days. Sea time on the Ronald Reagan will do that to you. I have been dropped from the weekly pick em results and that's ok. I couldn't submit my picks, No big deal. I do however follow this blob like it's my bible and with the ridiculously horrible Internet on the boat at sea (think pre dial up circa 1990 and you would understand). I know for a fact that within 3 days of Frees banning that Rorshach44 or however it was homie spells it was back. Free, bro we are related in some way shape or form. I had a comment posted back from Aprilish after we landed two straight DLinemem in the draft and said we would knock Tony Romo out for the year. I knew this Dline was about to gel. Revamped Dline (article post draft I'm mobile and can't provide the link, forgive me) That said I missed the Detroit game, was at the Navy air terminal could not watch the game. Monday night against the Cowboys, I watched our team gut out a 13 point deficit and turn OT into a romp that looked closer than it was Bye week...An absolute murdering where we looked like the best team in football and earning glory for having the #1 ranked D and 2nd best offense in the league. Tito, Lo I had so muck insight and feelings that I wanted to express in some of your excellent fanposts, I just couldn't... Then the debacle against Dallas. I honestly don't think they are all that talented, I have been wanting to research andvpost a 20 page essay examining and evaluating the most overrated team in history, I couldn't post, and we don't play the Cowboys until NEXT SEASON, they aren't making the dance (F' em). The biggest game of the season now stands in our way. Tito I hear ya, I f'n hate the Eagles, but I wanted them to win big, not only because I needed Desean to win for ms this week (he did), but because I have faith and confidence in this Giants team. I want to face a team we have struggled to beat at there very best, clicking on all cylinders. I love it, I want the competition the spotlight, the drama of Michael Vick, the swagger we display on the road against a hated rival. My blood is pumping. Division game 1 against the Eagles 1st place in the "BEAST" on the line. Get on board shipmates its going to be one he'll of a ****in experience. No sailors were injured in the writing of this fanpost, I may just be a little bit more insane however... And apologies for any mispelled or grammatical errors my slight drunkenness/iPhone may have caused...

Big Blue View A confession

I left for boot camp on January 23rd 2008. I did get to watch the whole season up until the Super Bowl. I wish I could have delayed leaving, but alas I couldn't. I have never seen the entire Super Bowl the Giants won that year, which sucks. I have searched the Internet for memorabilia, including the DVD video but it no longer seems available for purchase. I was wondering if anyone knows a legitimate place that has them available or perhaps has an extra copy they wouldn't mind letting me borrow. I would of course generously compensate you for your shipping costs and include a gift card as well as returning the DVD.
