Warriors targeting JaVale McGee

I was listening to KNBR, and it sounds like the Warriors are targetting C-JaVale McGee from Nevada. This is a bit of a surprise given their experience with Patrick OBryant. However, Chris Mullin loves wingspan (McGee's is 7-6) and guys who can run, so it's not a total shock. Apparently both of his parents were professional basketball players, which is a plus. I think they'd like to trade down 5-7 spots and still take him, so should be interesting. But if it happens, you heard it here first! :)

My 49er Draft Picks

Here are my choices for who the 49ers should draft (if of course, they are available).

29 James Hardy, WR, Indiana, 6-6 220
39 Calais Campbell, DE, Miami, 6-8 280
75 John Greco, OT, Toledo, 6-5 320
107 Frank Okam, DT, Texas, 6-5 320
174 Dwight Lowery, CB, San Jose St, 6-1 185
214 Dennis Dixon, QB, Oregon, 6-4 205

I think this is pretty realistic, based on the mock drafts i've seen. I'm less sure about the 29th and 39th pick and would prefer trading down.

Greco would make a nice pairing with Staley at the tackles.

Okam has big upside (not sure why he's projected so low)

Lowery is a stud (can play CB and FS)

Dixon is a game changer (if his game can translate to the pros)

What do you all think?

Trade Idea: Earl Watson & Chris Wilcox

This is not a totally original idea, I've heard it bandied about before, but i've wanted it for some time now. Here is how it will be possible:

1. Warriors sign Biedrins and Monta each long term for $10.0m per year ea.

2. Baron Davis exercises his one-year option for $17.0m (after finding out nobody will give him a max deal)

3. Warriors get the 14th pick (unfortunately they don't win the lottery)

4.
Miami Heat draft PF-Michael Beasley with 1st pick (already have Wade to
handle ball, and Marcus Banks is fine role player). With Banks / Wade /
Marion / Beasley / Haslem, the Heat will have a very exciting team

5.
Seattle (Oklahoma City) Sonics draft PG-Derrick Rose. Seattle can now
pair Rose with Durant to rebuild the franchise. This leaves Earl Watson
and Luke Ridnour as 2 big contracts for backup PG.

6.
Warriors sign and trade F-Mickael Pietrus ($3.5m), $10.0m exception,
and 14th pick to Seattle for G-Earl Watson ($6.0m), F-Chris Wilcox
($6.7m) [***will this work??? Need clarification of trade exception rules***]

6a.
Seattle drafts F-Darrell Arthur (for example) to boast a young (cheap)
lineup of Rose / Durant / Green / Arthur / Collison with backups of
Ridnour / MickaelP / MickaelG :) and Petro / Sene (who cares).

6b.
Golden State boasts a lineup of Baron / Monta / SJack / Wilcox /
Biedrins, with now very strong bench of Watson / Belinelli / Harrington
/ BWrignt / Kosta. Now we have the muscle at the PF and depth at PG to
bang with the 4's that always kill us, and keep Baron fresh.

7. Unfortunately I think this means we won't have the cash to re-sign Azubuike (though I like him as GF), Barnes (love his hustle), C.J Watson, POB, or Croshere (who cares)

8.
This will give us the same lineup through next yeat and the following
year. With the development of Ellis (into a superstar) and Biedrins
(into a double double machine), we will have some good young talent
(BWright, Belinelli & Perovic), some near-all star level veteran
leaders (BDavis & SJax), and some experienced role players
(Harrington, Wilcox, and Watson). That is great balance, and looks like
a potential championship team to me (or certainly a championship
contender for years to come (only 1 player over 30 years old).

We play Seattle tomorrow night, so lets all give Watson and Wilcox (the killer W's) and welcome them to the W's.

Sound reasonable? Do you think Seattle would do it? Let me know Warrior fans.

How about James Posey at SF?

The Miami Herald is reporting that Posey has narrowed his choices down to four teams, and one is Golden State. I think Posey would fit in very well at the 3 spot. He's a good defender and can shoot the 3 very well. Basically he's a much better Pietrus. If we can get him for less money than Barnes, I say grab him. What do you think? Also, I would love to get Joe Smith at the PF position if he will take less money.

Davis/Ellis
Jackson/Belinelli/Azibuike
Harrington/Posey
Smith/Wright/Lasme
Biedrins/Foyle

Heck of a squad!

http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/47103/20070713/posey_narrows_choices_down_to_four/
