Obviously we have a bad season. Coaching and QB play is awful.

But answer me this...

Our QB's are continually throwing 3-7 yard passes. Why is that?

Lack of skill for the WR?
Lack of Oline protection?
Lack of QB skill?
Lack of Play-calling in Coaching?

These small dump passes are annoying me and I don't get why we do not try to utilize our WR's more.

The "Suck for Luck" catch phrase became popular last year. I remember many fanpost arguing for and against this mindset. The theory is simple... lose... lose alot this one year so that we can be in a better position for the future years.

This year the catch phrase that is getting popular is "blow for Geno." Geno Smith, as of right now, is the leading college football QB. There are actually 4-5 qb's that have potential to be first round quarterbacks...aka Franchise Quarterbacks...aka something that Chief fans know very little about. Those QB's are Barkley, Smith, Bray, Wilson, Jones, Klein, and Manuel. Obviously not all of these guys will be first round players and a couple of other guys might slide in but as of right now these guys are some of the leaders for a first round gig.

Obviously not all of these guys will be first round players and a couple of other guys might slide in but as of right now these guys are some of the leaders for a first round gig.

Should we give up one year for the future? Many have already given up on 2012. I like the thought of having Geno Smith or another stud QB, but my struggle is simple: In my heart, I can never root for the Chiefs to lose.

It is that simple. Watching every game, every drive, every play... I expect a touchdown, a defensive stop, and ultimately a win. And it goes against every fiber of my being to root for my team to lose. Even if it seems like a noble purpose: the future QB.

So I won't Blow for Geno... but

I will root for other teams to win and maybe this is the secret. Instead of wishing our team harm (no pun intended Cassel), I will root for the other teams to win.

Right now, with about 1/3 of the season finished, there are only 4 other teams that could be in the race for a 1st round QB. No NFC team appears to be pushing for a 1st round QB. The worst qb's in the NFC might be Kolb, Ponder, and Smith... whose teams are leading their conferences. And while the Saints, Panthers, and Lions have poor records... I can't imagine those teams giving up on their qb's.

That leaves the AFC teams. I have highlighted four teams that might be our only competition. Buffalo (Fitzgerald and a 2-3 record), Cleveland (Weeden 0-5), Jacksonville (Gabbert 1-4), Oakland (Palmer 1-3). I strongly believe Cleveland will take a QB, but the other three teams might still progress to a state that their coaches want to see the old qb return.

Oakland might be be fine with Palmer and Pryor (their young project QB). Buffalo might be content to wait for another year... to see if the team can be healthy before they make that decision. Gabbert is in a tough situation and might be on the chopping block already (my personal belief is that you can't complain about a QB if the O-line and players around him are pathetic...aka 2009 Cassel).

I won't blow for Geno, but I will cheer for these teams to succeed. Even if one or two of these teams win a couple of extra games then that might place us in a better situation to grab a QB. I don't expect to be drafting in the top 5. I expect that we follow last years teams and make a push for the playoffs but we just miss out. So the better these teams do the better off we are at having the option of drafting a qb.

PS. I know most people could care less about the 2013 draft right now... but I needed something to think about besides the Quinn/Cassel/Winston/fans topic.

What do you think? Could we actually be in a position to draft a QB because all of the other teams already have one? Notice I said nothing about Pioli and his drafting method. I think by the end of the season we will all recognize our greatest weakness and we will address it.

I did not go to any practice or watch any videos, but I have stayed in a Holiday Inn once. and I have Homer-itis.

Jamaal Charles has indeed worked out. First play of practice Both Powe and Poe were knocked off their tree trunks by a Charles smash. Payton H looks tiny to Charles.

None of the QB's threw an interception the entire practice. Stanzi looked like the best QB that the Chiefs have ever had. No dropped passes, no poor decisions, no mistakes (in fact he looked like a young Brady or Manning). BUT HE IS NOT READY THIS YEAR!

Brandon Flowers had 7 picks and Arenas had 2 (one would have been a td)

Bowe came into practice with a Baldwin Jersey on. Nobody seemed to notice. After "Baldwin" got 5 TD's he jumped for Cassel ball that was at least 10 feet above his head. "baldwin" barely tipped it... then DROPPED it. Right then and there everyone knew it was actually Bowe. He ran off the field and jumped the fence.

Guys, Every single Pioli draft has created the same gut wrenching feelings for me. Take a look.

1. Last year, when there were 75,000 awesome defensive ends and tackles on the board and every mock draft seemed to claim that was the target position for the chiefs-- What does Pioli do? He trades the pick!!! During those 45 minutes between pick 21 and pick 26, I remember feeling like we just missed our shot. I thought Pioli messed up. Then we pick commonly assumed 2nd rounder Justin Baldwin in the first round! The feelings of doubt and sickness get stronger. I thought for sure we would pick up Justin Houston in the second round--but we passed. The sick feeling starts me gagging. By the end of the draft, I examine the new players and how they will potentially fit together and all i can say is Good Job Pioli! 2) Two years ago I think many people had the same reaction to both of our 2nd round picks. In hindsight, I like having the real DMC and Arenas. 3) I guess, what I am saying is that I appreciate a GM that has a plan. Even If I don't understand or see the larger picture at times. I have no reason to think Pioli is Al Davis. No signs of Pioli becoming a stupid GM. In fact, I think everything seems to be pointing in the other direction. Glad we have Pioli. I will learn to root for Poe, and maybe he does turn into a nose tackling beast!

I can't wait for the draft. I am ready to add one or two key pieces to our team and I am excited to see who they may be!

This article isn't about who we are going to draft, rather, it is on Pioli's style and what players are key to his methodology.

I can't wait for the draft. I am ready to add one or two key pieces to our team and I am excited to see who they may be!

This article isn't about who we are going to draft, rather, it is on Pioli's style and what players are key to his methodology.

Here are IMO Key Factors in a Pioli Draft:

1. He doesn't fall in love with one specific player. This is a reason why he doesn't trade UP too much.

2. He usually holds a plethora of players in his hand at once. This is why he trades DOWN so much. When he has 5 good players that he could select, he tries to trade down four spots and pick up key additional picks. This is what I call playing the field. I believe much to his credit he knows how to adapt during the draft. Instead of panicking or overreacting when a certain position or player is picked he can be flexible enough to adapt.

3. All trades demand another trade partner. I think some of the AP mock drafts forget this. Just because it might suit us to trade down doesn't mean a team is actually willing to trade up (and trade away extra picks).

I believe Pioli's pool of players this year are indeed the top six or so players that are always on the AP mocks (DeCastro, Poe, Kueckly, Brockers, Glenn, Still/Cox). When the Chiefs draft at 11th, if their pool includes most, if not all of these guys, then trading down becomes a real option. If only a few of these guys are still on the board the BPA.

With that said, Pioli's ability to trade down depends on these three players (positions).

1. Micheal Floyd. If he slides into the top ten then he allows for another of Pioli's Pool Boys to stay open. The Jag's and Fins are the most likely teams to pick Floyd. Most do not think Floyd is a true top 10 talent but it only takes one team in need of a WR to help the Chiefs.

2. Riley Reiff (and the OT position). At one time 4 of the top 10 in this draft were Tackles. Now it doesn't seem like Adams and Martin will stay that high. But if Reiff and Martin stay in the top 10 then a trade down seems more likely. Panthers and Dolphins are probably the two top teams to select the OT.

3. Trent Richardson. Unlike the other two guys on this list, Richardson provides trade value for another team. The other two guys simple push Pioli's Pool Boys down on the Draft charts, while Richardson becomes trade bait.

Do you think there are any other players that are KEY for the Chiefs to trade Down?

Doesn't it make sense to take that 15 million (minus rookie salary base) and apply it to next years team? Obviously, there are a minor contracts/players that we will still need to sign.
Does the salary cap role-over apply to 2013 too?
I just wanted to create a simple 'impact list' of the AFC WEST:

1. Chargers: Today greatly impacted their team as they lost their #1 WR Vincent Jackson. Philip Rivers will have one less target. Great news for Chief fans. Many elite WR's have already signed with other teams, so replacing him will be difficult. Plus, RB Mike Tolbert is on the market with many teams biding for his services (Chiefs are one of the major players too). The chargers did re-sign their Center at a good cost. Still, it's had to be a bad day for the chargers.

2. Raiders: Not much on the docket for the raiders. With such a financial crisis, they have cut many players. Quality QB Jason Campbell signed with the Bears, but he was expected to leave (Chiefs had some rumors in connection with Campbell). RB Bush is targeted by some teams and he stands a good chance to leave. Calm day for the raiders. Chaz Schilens has had some talk and I personally find the rumors of TE Boss interesting (because of the drama of their last year TE position).

3. Broncos: Great day for the Chiefs, as it relates to the broncos. Unofficially, it is official that Reggie Wayne is staying in Colt Country. That means any plans with Manning and half of the famed colts riding into Denver is probably not going to happen. That is great news to me, and perhaps is better news than Chiefs signing somebody! Officially, Broncos signed nobody today. With Manning pondering his options, it hinders the broncos to make too many moves. Calm day for the broncos.

Personal theory, what if Manning takes another couple of days...then looks at the 5-6 teams again and realizes his best chance for a Super Bowl lies with the CHIEFS (after we sign a couple more studs). I am utterly shocked that nobody has recognized this (from Manning's group). To me, it is obvious, but I guess I might be biased?

4. Chiefs: Not too much to report. There are rumors and some true stories of connecting the Chiefs to certain players (Tolbert, Hillis, TE Carlson, and OL Winston). Perhaps tomorrow some of these guys will agree to the Chiefs. Routt probably should be listed as an impact player signed by the Chiefs (even so he has been signed for a while). Carr sounds like he is going to greener pastures (I wish him well, but I will miss him). Love to re-sign him but I do understand the cost issues.

So how do you grade the Chiefs first day?

Quick Question for Someone smarter than I

There are two styles of "Franchise tags." The first is the Exclusive Tag--No other team can touch the player.

The second is the non-exclusive tag, which allows for other teams to sign and trade for the player (as long as the current team allows it and receives a draft pick).

My question is, "Can a team use both of these tags in one season?" I know that a team can not Franchise more than one player but since the exclusive and non-exclusive tags are different than does that mean that every team has the ability to tag and tender one player for exclusive rights and one player for non-exclusive rights?

Did Haley give up on the Chiefs?

Originally I thought this question was unworthy of a response from the Chief fan base. It is so common to question the "man" when things are going bad--and this has been a bad season. Rumors and leaks have spread since last years playoff embarrassment to the Ravens. Scott Pioli and Todd Haley were not getting along. The War Room book that exposed a broken relationship between the two.

It seemed like the question of "Did Haley give up?" was one that many began to ask but I did not think it worthy yet. That is until this last weekend. Green Bay, who many have said might be one of the best teams EVER in NFL history, got killed by the chiefs. The chiefs owned the whole game. So after watching this game I began to ask the same question: Did Haley give up on the Chiefs?

So after watching this game I began to ask the same question: Did Haley give up on the Chiefs?

Consider the Following:

1. The absolute horrid off-season performance of the Chiefs. NO OTHER TEAM looked as bad ad the Chiefs. This has to reflect the Head Coaches efforts to get the players ready. Yes, this looks like Haley misjudged, miscalculated, or purpose did not even try to perform at the level that was needed. Nothing else explains the horrid play on the field.

2. The 0-3 start to the season is in direct relation to the horrid off-season play. These games weren't closes loses. They were first quarter blow-outs. The loses came to teams that were expected to be poor teams (bills and lions).

3. The screams of firing the head coach already were loud, but Haley side stepped them with difficult wins against the Colts and Vikings. Understand these teams are 2 of the 3 worst teams of the nfl. Haley saved his neck for a couple of weeks.

4. One thing that sheds more light into the situation is Haley's two decisions to stick with Palko and abandon Gaithers. These two actions seem unwarranted and completely off-base for a team that is wanting to place the best 53 on the field. Not using Kyle Orton and instead going with Palko is a clear sign of poor (accidental or intentional) coaching. Yes, Orton had a badly injured hand... BUT everyone has injuries!!! In fact, many players (in NBA and NFL) have had the same struggles and played through their dislocated finger. But somehow Orton was benched for Palko for 3 weeks? I am not dissing Orton but I am claiming something is fishy with this story. Haley's intentional benching of Orton shows a lack of judgment or a complete lapse of trying. Gaithers is another example. Even if Gaithers would not be starting he is at least more valuable than the bench tackles? right? I was not shocked to see him snatched by the Chargers and given the Game Ball two weeks later. Does this smell fishy yet?

5. Perhaps one of the biggest concerns with Haley's giving up on the team rest in the poor play-calling for the offense. Yes, Haley isn't directly in charge, but in many ways he is still the man. He tells the OC what plays and styles to practice and perform and Haley ultimately has control. Watching 8 games, this season, where the Chiefs have scored under 10 points is a direct failure of Haley. Muir (the OC) might not be the best or average... but Haley still controls the system.

I don't want to be blaming Haley for everything and if you know me, I have been a huge supporter of him. But these 5 issues makes me wonder about Haley giving up on the Chiefs. Am I wrong?

Reviewing the draft

Looking back at the draft, I am more confident in Pioli's ways. The two biggest players that experts, chief fans, and I were pitching for were Terrence Cody and Sergio Kindle. Instead Chiefs drafted one unknown player and another surprising pick. The 36th pick was ....

Looking back at the draft, I am more confident in Pioli's ways. The two biggest players that experts, chief fans, and I were pitching for were Terrence Cody and Sergio Kindle. Instead Chiefs drafted one unknown player and another surprising pick. The 36th pick was ....

Dexter McCluster...a RUNNING BACk. I believe my chief fans had the same initial reaction that I did. I seriously started to craft a conspiracy theory of ex-patriots front office guys working around the league to sabotage other teams (including the chiefs-now). Why on earth would a team that has JC and newly acquired Thomas Jones draft another running back?

Frustration started to kick in. Sergio Kindle seemed to be a perfect fit for the the Chiefs and Cody "was the missing nose tackle." Everyone knew this.

I figured since the chiefs had another 2nd round pick, at least they could get one of these guys they blindly missed, right? Wrong. With the 50th pick, the Chiefs selected Javier Arenas... a corner back. This pick threw me for a loop. With newly acquired Berry, and soon to be all-pro Flowers + Carr, why would we select another CB?

Maybe time doesn't tell all, but it did in this situation. Both Kindle and Cody were selected by the Baltimore Ravens. Has it stands Kindle is already injured... with a SKULL FRACTURE (I don't even know how that could happen). Kindle's biggest problem going into the draft was that he had a "injury tag." The ever so large Cody has not been practicing with Ravens because he has not passed the conditioning exercises yet. Now I don't know how severe the Ravens conditioning workouts are but I do know the Chiefs program has been extremely brutal if players take it easy with off-season workouts.

What has McCluster and Arenas done for the Chiefs? McCluster has been selected by every expert to be the 'weapon X" that could make any offense, especially the Chiefs, dangerous. Is he a RB, WR, or the leader in the Wildcat? Yes, yes, and yes. Arenas has solidified the Chiefs secondary has perhaps one of the best in the league (looking into the future). It still might take a season or two...but the D is vastly improved, especially the secondary.

I guess the question is would you rather have an already injured Sergio Kindle and a fat Terrence Cody who eats everything in sight or McCluster and Arenas? I know my answer. Pioli... good job and I won't second guess you again.
