Home Opener: Pre-game activities

As LincolnParkWildcat noted in the linked post, the scenery around Campus for tailgating has changed. I'm a new season ticket holder and am bringing a non-NU friend (also, new season ticket holder) along to the Syracuse game and was looking to bring some food or drink and join in on a tailgate. I'm putting this post up to find out if anyone has room for extras at their tailgate and if so where on campus they do it. I haven't done any tailgating since graduating and would love to meet some of the fine members of this board. Additionally, I'm posting the this in case anyone in the community has do's, don'ts, or events (like the popular, but now outlawed, Goose Island tent) they recommend around NU tailgating.

Favorable Women's Lax tournament draw?

With ND/Stanford, Penn State and UNC standing in NU's way to the championship, they won't have to face the likes of Syracuse, Florida, or Maryland before the final. Seems like the best draw that NU could have hoped for.

Gotta Love these Power Rankings

In accordance with Crooow's Comment: Boston is the best thing ever and the Royals' stock is falling after struggling against the mighty Braves and Sox. Wait, What?

John Shurna helps East Team to Victory at NABC All-Star Game

John Shurna shot 60% from 3pt range, and tacked on another basket and-1 to score 12 while grabbing 2 rebounds for the East team in spite of playing a paltry 22 minutes. The East team won 103-99 in a game which featured 8 ties and 9 lead changes. Shurna averaged 2pts/FGA to be the most efficient shooter on the floor for either team. Shurna again bested Juan Fernandez from 3pt range, while Jae Crowder led the team in scoring (25 pts 5 reb 3ast 3 stl), Scott Machado in assists (11 pts 8 ast 3 reb) and Ramone Moore in rebounds (15pts 9 reb). For the West, Ricardo Ratiliffe of Missouri recorded a double double with 25-10 to lead in scoring, New Mexico State's Wendell McKines had a monster game on the boards (15pts 18rebs) to lead in rebounding and Long Beach State's Casper ware stuffed the stat sheet with 10pts 7 ast and 5 reb to lead the West in assists. Post links to any accounts of the game in the comments.

JerShon Cobb shows good body language at DM

Side note - John Shurna dancing - this looks every bit as awkward as his shot. I cannot speak as to whether its effectiveness is similar. Sobo is not as shy as he looks...

NU WLAX falls 16-6 to Team USA

Twelve days before the season begins, the Northwestern Wildcats played at the Champions' Classic against the best lacrosse players in the world. The ten goal deficit seems like a lot, but consider...

NU at 20th in Sagarin Ratings

As of this Sunday, NU has reached 20th in the Sagarin ratings, it will be interesting to see where they stand after this week's games with some of the higher profile tournaments taking place. As...

Mike Kafka in for Mike Vick

Kafka substituted in for Vick, handed off, drew a roughing the passer, and handed off for a TD. Not much to watch, but nice to hear Al Michaels say: "in comes Mike Kafka who played his college ball...

Northwestern vs. Other similar Programs Pt. 2

The Wall Street Journal published a "Grid of Shame" and had a comment on Northwestern.  Much of nuftw's "Northwestern v. Other Similar Program's" analysis was recapitulated in the image at the link...

Women's Rowing on (replay)

In the spirit of keeping up with the spring sports: Northwestern Women's Heavyweight 4+ reaches finals of the Dad Vail Regatta (essentially the Div 1-A national Championships). They are the only club program to reach the final, despite not having a full time coach and being a student run organization. To my knowledge, they are the only club program to get airtime on ESPN3. To see a few shots of them in action go to the Sat. May 14th look for the sport Rowing. They are on from the 2hr 24min - 2hr 32min mark. Full Disclosure - i'm a former rower/coach for the men's team and wanted to recognize the team for their performance.
