Music City Miracles What the Matt Hasselbeck signing means to me

What the Matt Hasselbeck signing means to me. Right now I have mixed emotion on the signing of Matt Hasselbeck. On one hand it’s a proven Veteran who has done things right throughout his career. He is of good character and leadership. He will be a great example for Jake Locker to learn how to be a pro. Locker doesn’t need Hasselbeck to teach him how to throw the ball and where and when. He knows how to throw it and the coaches will teach how and when. Hasselbeck is here to be the example of leadership and how to handle pressure and mistakes. With that said agreeing to terms with Matt Hasselbeck has now in my view changed the priorities of the Team. Our #1 priority is no longer any position on Defense, it’s not another WR, It’s not even signing CJ to a long term contract. The #1 priority now should be fixing the Offensive line. Shoring up the interior line JUST HAS to be #1. If not then the signing of Matt Hasselbeck is a waste. Without fixing the offensive line Jake Locker would have to be 3rd string behind Rusty Smith. Why you may ask? Simple. Matt Hasselbeck has a chronic back problem and ANYONE who has ever had back problems or KNOWN someone who has knows very well the problems and concerns associated with them. Even after surgery and rehab!!! Back problems linger and in some case NEVER go away Every QB is one Hit away from being listed as "out" every week. But with a back problem it is magnified 10 folds. Hasselbeck isn’t just one hit away. He’s one wrong move away. So is Hasselbeck a better mentor on the field or on the injury report? If the Titans do NOT fix the line, mainly the interior line then we are back to square one with Either Rusty Smith or Jake Locker starting.

Music City Miracles Who do we beat and How confident are you?

With some of the recent conversation being centered on what the Titans Win Loss record will be, it has me looking at our upcoming schedule and wondering.  Who do we beat and how confident can we be as fans that they will beat that team.

I see 4-12 and 6-10 thrown around as our expected record.  But when I look at the schedule I can't help but wonder where those wins are going to come from.  So please!  Help me out here..  Pick up my spirits and explain where the wins are going to come and how it will be so? as it stands today!!!

@ Jacksonville Jaguars (8-8, 3-3) - Opening game on the Road.  Don't see it happening here

Baltimore Ravens (12-4) - This team would have to take a HUGE step backwards for us to win

Denver Broncos (4-12) - Our first Maybe.  If Tebow starts and this team by week 3 takes on his demeanor then I don't think we can win.  They will just be to mentally tough and determined.

@ Cleveland Browns (5-11) - Why does this game have to be on the Road?  if it was at home then I'd score this one a win.  But I can't because I have to take into account everything and the fact it's on the road

@ Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4) - Yeah.. I just hope we don't get blown out

Houston Texans (6-10, 3-3) - Ok, We all know that the problems for the Texans hasn't been Offense.. But on Defense.  and with the Addition of Wade Phillps it can't be denied that this team will be much BETTER on Defense. Even though the Titans have owned the Texans in the past I am NOT confident we still do

Indianapolis Colts (10-6) - hopefully Manning is out for the year!  Then I'll have confidence that we have a shot at home

Cincinnati Bengals (4-12) - finally a seemingly confident chance we will get win #2

@ Carolina Panthers (2-14) - mirror image team of the 2010 Titans.. Star WR, Star RB, Gifted QB.  Damn you VY.. Why did you always beat the sub-par teams?  do I go with win #3?  or say that Newton and VY are similar and therefore Cam will beat a Subpar Titan team?

@ Atlanta Falcons (13-3) - In Atlanta?  They just added YET another explosive WR for Ryan.. Please or Please have merci on my Titans

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (10-6) what is the chance that a 10-6 team who missed the playoffs the year before won't be out to prove something?

@ Buffalo Bills (4-12) - OK.. Who made out the schedule?  Buffalo in December?  Com'on!!  but ah it is the bills so there’s a chance we leave with a win - But if I had to bet it I'd go with the Home team

New Orleans Saints (11-5) - Everyday I wish the Titans would have signed Bree's instead of Drafting VY

@ Indianapolis Colts (10-6, 4-2) - First of our last 3 Divisional games.  On the road.. Against a team probably playing for something

Jacksonville Jaguars (8-8, 3-3) - Split right?

@ Houston Texans (6-10, 3-3) - Road game, last game.. Comes down to who has something to play for..  I have to go with the Home team again.

To ME.. The best case is 4 wins.. 4 WINS!  But realistically I can have confidence that we will win 2 games at MOST.

I'm a firm believer that anything can happen any given Sunday and I understand that Free Agency hasn't played out yet and that you just never know.  But as it stands today confidence in this team to win more than 2 games is just non-existent.

Music City Miracles McNairs Hall of Fame Status got me thinking

The article by FO on the top 5 QB's in Oilers/Titans history had a few post about weather McNair will make it to the Hall of fame But what I started to think about is there anyone FROM the Superbowl team that will be in the hall of fame. (Other than Matthews) Will Eddie make it? What about Mason? What are your thoughts? Also has there ever been a superbowl team without Hall of Famers?

Music City Miracles For all those who are Happy Jeff Fisher is gone - I have this for you

It appears that most of you didn't pay attention or weren't old enough to remember the Houston Oiler days and the Days before Jeff Fisher was made coach.  I did and I saw some Very talented teams wasted on coaching instablity.

From 1960 to 1996 the Oilers had 16 coaches, to include Jeff Fisher. during that 36 year span we had  some of the best players to ever play the game and we didn't make the superbowl once.  Bud Adams up until Jeff Fisher had a quick tigger for firing coaches (I.E the current Al Davis of those years).  Our coaches lasted 2.5 years on avg during that 36 year span.

More then anything I hope this helps most of you understand why I'm not a fan of Jeff Fisher leaving and why I have fears of being a LOT like the current Raiders teams

These are the Franchises longest tenures coaches: : Fisher 17 years, Bum Phillips: 5 years, Wally Lemn: 4 Years, and Glanville and Pardee 4 years each.

I present you with this from this website.  http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nfl/tenhou/houoilers.html

1960: Bud Adams, a founding member of the upstart American Football League hires Lou Rymkus to coach his team in Houston known as the Oilers. The Oilers are able to win a major victory for the AFL by signing Heisman Trophy Running back Billy Cannon; they also introduce a strong veteran influence by signing Quarterback George Blanda. After starting their season with a 37-22 win over the Raiders in Oakland the Oilers came home to Jeppesen Stadium where they defeated the Los Angles Chargers 38-28. The Oilers would go on to finish with a 10-4 record, easily winning the Eastern Division, as Lou Rymkus earns Coach of the Year honors. In the first ever AFL Championship Game, the Oilers defeat the Chargers 24-16 before 32,000 at Jeppesen Stadium. Leading the way for the Oilers is Billy Cannon who is named the game's MVP, and George Blanda who passes for 301 yards.

1961: The Oilers get the season off on the right foot routing the Oakland Raiders 55-0 at Jeppesen Stadium admit a hurricane warning. However, the Oilers would stumble losing three straight, before tying the Patriots in Boston to fall to 1-3-1. Feeling a change is need Coach Lou Rymkus is fired and replaced by Wally Lemm. In Lemm's first game the Oilers end their winless streak as George Blanda throws Touchdown passes and hits a 53 yard Field Goal in a 38-7 win over the Dallas Texans. A week later Blanda would pass for 464 yards, as the Oilers started a winning streak. The win streak continued through November 19th when Blanda threw seven Touchdown passes in a 49-13 win over the New York Titans. The winning streak in fact would continue until the end of the season where the Oilers went on to capture the Eastern Division with a 10-3-1 record, by winning their final nine games. Wally Lemm would earn coach of the year honors, while George Blanda was named player of the year. In the AFL Championship the Oilers would travel to San Diego for a rematch with the Chargers. The game would be a defensive struggle as the Oilers won the AFL Championship again 10-3.

1962: The Oilers would enter the season with a new coach as Wally Lemm used his perfect 9-0 record, to get a coaching job in the NFL. Under new coach Pop Ivy the Oilers would play shaky football in the first half holding a 4-3 record, before go on another season ending seven game winning streak to win the Eastern Division for the third year in a row with an 11-3 record. Facing their intrastate rivals the Dallas Texans in the AFL Championship Game at Jeppesen Stadium the Oilers, were in place to remain the only Champion in AFL history. However, the Texans would put up a strong fight as they game went deep into overtime. The game would end up heading for a sixth Quarter when the Oilers quest for a threepeat came to an end with a Field Goal 20-17.

1963: After a slow start the Oilers looked primed to take over the Eastern Division again winning 4 of their next 5. However, the Oilers would go on a season ending four game slide, and would finish with a disappointing 6-8 record. Following the season Coach Pop Ivy is fired and replaced by Hall of Famer Sammy Baugh.

1964: Under new Coach Sammy Baugh the Oilers get off to a solid 2-1 start. However, turnovers, and a poor defense would lead to a nine game losing streak that ended the Oilers playoff hopes. The Oilers would win their last two games to finish in last place with a 4-10 record. The season was not without its highlights as George Blanda attempted 68 passes in a 24-10 loss to the Bills in Buffalo on November 1st. Following the season the Oilers would make another coaching change replacing Sammy Baugh with Hugh Taylor.

1965: Originally scheduled to play at the brand new Harris County Domed Stadium, the Oilers at the last minute decide to play at Rice Stadium, when they reject terms of the lease. Without the Oilers using the new stadium it would be renamed the Astrodome. The Oilers get off to a good start winning their first two games. However, they would struggle again winning just two more the rest of the way finishing in last place again with a 4-10 record. After a season ending seven game losing streak Coach Hugh Taylor is fired, and replaced by Wally Lemm, who left for the NFL after coaching the Oilers to the 1961 AFL Championship.

1966: The Oilers get the season off on the right foot beating the Denver Broncos 45-7 at Rice Stadium, in game in which the defense did not allow a single first down. The Oilers would win again the following week to sit at 2-0. However, they would win just once more in their final 12 games, finishing with a 3-11 record, while losing twice to the expansion Miami Dolphins in a season ending eight game losing streak. Following the season the Oilers would cut ties with QB/PK George Blanda who as vital to their early success.

1967: Spurred by an improved defense led by Rookie of the Year George Webster, the Oilers return to the solid play that helped them win the first two AFL Championships. Allowing just 199 points on the season the Oilers would win the Eastern Division with a 9-4-1 record. However, the Oilers would be walloped by the Raiders 45-7 in Oakland with a trip to Super Bowl II on the line.

1968: The Oilers finally sign a deal to play in the Astrodome after working out the disagreements in the lease. The Oilers stumble out of the gate losing four of their first five games. The Oilers would go on to finish the season strong winning three or their last four games to finish with a 7-7 record.

1969: The Oilers get off to a solid 3-1 start, but struggle and play only mediocre football over the next 9 weeks, as they enter the final game of the season at home against the Boston Patriots with a 5-6-2 record. However, under a new playoff format the Oilers only need a win to make the playoffs. Trailing late the Oilers would rally and would enter the playoffs with a 6-6-2 record. However, the Oilers run would end quickly as they fell 56-7 to the Raiders in Oakland.

1970: The Oilers get off to a solid 2-1 start, but weaknesses on both sides of the ball catch up with them as they only win one of their final 11 games, finishing with a 3-10-1, as Coach Wally Lemm, announces his retirement. The Oilers would go on name Ed Hughes to replace him.

1971: The Oilers get off to a dreadful start going winless trough their first six games, before beating the Cincinnati Bengals 10-6 at the Astrodome. The Oilers would continue to struggle losing their next three games, sealing the fate of Coach Ed Hughes. The Oilers would win their last three games to finish with a 4-9-1 record, but Hughes was still fired, and replaced by Bill Peterson.

1972: After being blowout in their first two games the Oilers stun the New York Jets 26-20 at the Astrodome. However, the win would end up being the only win on the season, as the Oilers finish with a miserable 1-13 record, while being outscored an embarrassing 380-164 on the season.

1973: To say the Oilers season was miserable would be an understatement, as Coach Bill Peterson is fired after a 0-5 start. The Oilers whose record under Peterson was a humiliating 1-18, would be the led the rest of the season by Hall of Fame Coach Sid Gilman. However, not even Gilman could help, as the Oilers lost their next two games before beating the Colts 31-27 in Baltimore for their only win of the season, as the finished the season with a 1-13 record, being outscored 447-199 on the season.

1974: Sid Gilman remains head coach but hires Bum Philips to be the defensive coordinator so he could be groomed to replace him. The Oilers would start the season off by winning their first game at the Astrodome 21-14 over the San Diego Chargers. However, the Oilers would struggle losing their next five games, but this time the Oilers would recover by winning their next four games on the way to finishing with a 7-7 record. Following the season Gilman would step down, and let Bum Phillips take over.

1975: In Bum Phillips first season as Coach the Oilers finally played competitive football again posting their first winning season in seven years with a 10-4 record. However, all four losses were to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Cincinnati Bengals who beat out the Oilers for the Division Title and Wild Card spot.

1976: The Oilers get off to another strong start at 4-1. However, the team's offensive struggles would catch up with them as they lost six in a row and seven of eight games overall to close out the season with a disappointing 5-9 record.

1977: The Oilers get off on the right foot again winning three of their first four games, which was capped by a 27-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Astrodome. However, injuries would hamper the Oilers chances as they lost five of their next six games. Once some key players returned the Oilers would finish the season on a strong note to finish with an 8-6 record.

1978: Spurred by RB Earl Campbell who wins both the Offensive Rookie of the Year, and Offensive Player of the Year rushes for 1,450 yards, the Oilers make the playoffs with a 10-6 record, qualifying in the newly created 5th Wild Card spot. In the Wild Card Game the Oilers would travel to Miami where they stunned the Dolphins 17-9 to advance to the Divisional Playoffs. After beating the Dolphins the Oilers traveled to New England where they faced the Patriots before 61,297 chilly fans. However, the cold weather would not bother the Oilers 31-14 to earn a trip to Pittsburgh with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line. However, the Oilers run would end in disappointment as they are blown out by the Steelers 34-5. Following the loss the Oilers are greeted by 50,000 loyal fans at the Astrodome holding signs saying "Love Ya Blue."

1979: Earl Campbell continues to establish himself as the best Ruinning Backs in the league winning the Offensive Player of the year again while claming the NFL MVP, by rushing for an NFL best 1,697 yards, while scoring 19 Touchdowns. The Oilers would go on to finish with an 11-5 record, qualifying for the playoffs as a Wild Card again. In the first playoff game at the Astrodome the Oilers beat the Denver Broncos 13-7, but lose several key players including RB Earl Campbell, and Quarterback Dan Pastorini to injuries. Playing without Campbell and Pastorini in the Divisional Playoffs the Oilers backup would step it up as they beat the Chargers in San Diego 17-13, as Vernon Perry sets a playoff record by intercepting four passes. The Oilers would move to the AFC Championship game in Pittsburgh for a rematch with the Steelers. The Oilers appeared to have the game tied in the 3rd Quarter but Officials said Mike Renfro was out of bounds when replays clearly showed he got both feet in. The call would be a back breaker as the Oilers fell 27-13. Following the loss the Oilers would return home where 70,000 fans showed up early in the morning to greet them in another "Love Ya Blue" rally.

1980: Earl Campbell continues to be the rest runner in the NFL winning the rushing title again, and Offensive Player of the Year again with an amazing 1,934-yard season. His season was highlighted by consecutive 200-yard games as he narrowly misses a 2,000-yard season. The Oilers would go on to finish with an 11-5 record, as they had to settle for the Wild Card again after losing the division via tiebreaker. In the Wild Card Game at Oakland the Oilers were stymied by the Raiders all game losing 27-7, as their season is ended by the eventual Super Bowl Champion for the 3rd year in a row. However, Owner Bud Adams was not satisfied, and he would fire Coach Bum Philips, and replace him with Ed Biles.

1981: The Oilers get the season started with a bang as Rookie Willie Tullis returns kickoff 95 yards for game winning TD in final minute of game for a 27-20 win over the Rams in Los Angeles. However, the Oilers defensive problems would catch up with them as they finished with a disappointing 7-8 record, as Earl Campbell fights trough injuries to rush for 1,376 yards.

1982: After losing their season opener the Oilers beat the Seattle Seahawks at the Astrodome 23-21, as the Oilers season was frozen at 1-1 before a two month player's strike. When the season resumed the Oilers struggled, losing all seven games, as Earl Campbell is held to just 536 yards, as the Oilers finish the season with a 1-8 record.

1983: The Oilers get off to a miserable 1-5 start prompting head Coach Ed Biles to resign. He would be replaced by Chuck Studley but the Oilers would not do any better, winning just two of ten games under Studley, and finishing with a terrible 3-13 record. Following the season the Oilers would make Hugh Campbell its new coach.

1984: With hopes of improving the offense the Oilers win a competitive bidding war to sign CFL star Quarterback Warren Moon. However, with Earl Campbell in full decline, the Oilers decide to cut bait and trade the star Running Back that once dominated the NFL after a 1-5 start. The move would leave a gapping hole at Run ningback but it was the defense that was a greater weak spot as the Oilers finished with a 2-14 record, allowing 457 points on the season.

1985: With hopes of improving the running game the Oilers sign former Heisman Trophy winner Mike Rozier away form the USFL. However, Rosier would struggle, and would be limited to 462 yards rushing. Meanwhile Quarterback Warren Moon continued to struggle with turnovers as the Oilers continued to struggle, sitting at 5-9 with two games remaining when Coach Hugh Campbell is fired. Jerry Glanville would coach the Oilers in their last two games as the Oilers lost and finished with a 5-11 record. Despite the losses Glanville would earn the fulltime coaching job.

1986: In Jerry Glanville's first full year as Coach the Oilers get the season started on the right note beating the Packers 31-3 in Green Bay. However, the Oilers would struggle again losing eight straight games, and nine out of ten games, on the way to another dreadful 5-11 season. However, there were some bright spots Warren Moon despite throwing 26 interceptions showed some promise by tallying up 3,489 yards in passing.

1987: The Oilers show some promise while splitting their first two games before a players strike leads to the use of replacement players. The regular would eventually return as the Oilers scabs went 2-1. After the regulars return the Oilers won their first two games, as Warren Moon began to fulfill the promise he showed in the CFL, but after the Oilers lost three of their next four games their playoff hopes looked all but lost. However, the Oilers would win three of their last four games to finish with a 9-6 earning them their first playoff berth in seven years. In the Wild Card game at the Astrodome the Oilers battle back to beat the Seattle Seahawks 24-21 in overtime on a Tony Zendejas' 42-yard Field Goal. However, the Oilers season would end with a 34-10 to the Broncos a week later in the Divisional Playoffs at Denver.

1988: With a roster with eight All-Pros the Oilers have another solid season, finishing with a 10-6 record, to qualify for the playoffs for the second year in a row. Among the starters Bruce Mathews, and Mike Munchak who provided the foundation of a solid offensive line, Mike Rozier who scored 10 Touchdowns, Warren Moon who despite injury managed 17 Touchdown passes, and Wide Receiver Dew Hill who collected 1,141 receiving yards. In the Wild Card game the Oilers would face the Browns in Cleveland on a snowy Christmas Eve afternoon. The game would nail bitter to the end as the Oilers won 24-23 with Running Back Allen Pinkett scoring two Touchdowns. However, the Oilers season would end a week later with a 17-10 loss to the Bills in frigid Buffalo.

1989: After playing inconsistent football through the first eight games while compiling an 8-8 record, the Oilers win five out of six games to earn a spot in the playoffs. However, losses in their final two games would cost them the AFC Central Division Title, as the settled for the Wild Card with a 9-7 record. In the Wild Card Game at the Astrodome, the Oilers would play sloppy football all afternoon losing in overtime to the Pittsburgh Steelers 26-23. Following the season Coach Jerry Glanville would be let go and replaced by Jack Pardee.

1990: The Oilers season starts off on the wrong foot with a humiliating loss 47-27 to the Jerry Glanville coached Falcons in Atlanta. The Oilers would drop another game the following week, before winning their home opener over the Indianapolis Colts 24-10. However through most of the season the Oilers would toil around .500 despite an incredible season from Warren Moon that earns him Offensive Player of the Year Honors. The Oilers would win three of their last four games to finish with a 9-7 record, which helped them squeak into the playoffs as the sixth seed. In the playoffs the Oilers season would end quickly with a 41-14 loss to the Bengals in Cincinnati.

1991: Warren Moon has another spectacular season passing for 4,690 yards as the Oilers get off to a 7-1 start. The start was good enough for the Oilers to end 24 years of frustration, as the Oilers were able to finally win a Division Title. However a loss in their final game cost them a playoff bye, as they finished with an 11-5 record. In the Wild Card Round at the Astrodome the Oilers are given a scare by the New York Jets, but Safety Bubba McDowell intercepts to key passes inside the five yard line to secure the victory for the Oilers 17-10. In the Division Round in Denver the Oilers control the game all afternoon, leading the Broncos 24-16 midway through the 4th Quarter. However, John Elway would have one of his magical comebacks to deal the Oilers a heartbreaking loss 26-24.

1992: Despite losing Warren Moon to an injury most of the second half of the season, the Oilers are one of the top teams in the AFC again finishing with a 106- record, and qualifying for the playoffs. In the Wild Card Game, Warren Moon returns as the Oilers breakout to a 35-3 lead early in the 3rd Quarter against the Bills in Buffalo. In the first half alone Moon passes for 371 yards and connects on four Touchdowns. However, the lead would not last as the Bills came from behind to win in overtime 41-38. The loss was the biggest lead ever blown in NFL history.

1993: Following the disaster in Buffalo, owner Bud Adams gives players one more season to get to the Super Bowl, before he cuts baits and decides to rebuild. The Oilers would get off to a shaky start losing four of their first five games, culminating with a 35-7 loss on Monday night to the Bills in Buffalo. With their season on the brink the Oilers would turn their season around, as Running Back Gary Brown emerges as a new star rushing for 1,002 yards in just eight  starts, as the Oilers won their last 11 games to win the AFC Central with a 12-4 record, earning a playoff bye. In the Divisional Playoffs the Oilers host the Kansas City Chiefs with hopes of making it to the AFC Championship. The Oilers would hold a lead into the 3rd Quarter, but another 2nd half collapse would see the Oilers season end again with a 28-20 loss. Following the season, the rebuilding process started with the trade of Warren Moon to the Minnesota Vikings.

1994: Without Warren Moon the Oilers get off to a miserable start losing nine of their first ten games before Coach Jack Pardee is fired and replaced by Jeff Fisher. Under Fisher the losing would continue as the Oilers lost their next five games, before beating the New York Jets 24-10 in their final game of the season to finish with a 2-14 record.

1995: With an eye to the future the Oilers draft Quarterback Steve McNair with the third overall draft pick. However, McNair would start the season on the bench behind free agent signee Chris Chandler. Chandler would play solid football as the Oilers showed improvement in their first full year under Jeff Fisher finishing with a 7-9 record. However, the story of the season comes on November 16th when Bud Adams announces plans to move the team to Nashville when the lease at the Astrodome expires in 1998.

1996: Houston fans express their displeasure with Oilers move by staying away in droves. Playing most of the season in front of crowds of less then 20,000 at the Astrodome the Oilers only win two out of their eight games at home. However, on the road they win six out of eight gamess as the Oilers finish with an 8-8 record. Houston fans would get a tease as Running Back Eddie George won the Offensive Rookie of the Year with 1,368 yards rushing for the lame duck Oilers. Following the Oilers make a deal with the city of Houston to break their lease a year early, meaning the season would be the last in Houston. The Oilers would end up losing their final game at the Astrodome 21-13 to the Cincinnati Bengals. After the Oilers left for Music City the city of Houston led by Bob McNair began making plans to get a NFL team back in Houston.

Music City Miracles Off-Topic Brett Favre

Why is all this stuff about Brett Favre coming out after 2 years?  really?  not to mention the Jen Sterger stuff the week of the Viking's / Jet's game!

Now two women are filing suit agains the Jet's because He sent inappropreate text to them! WHY wait TWO YEARS?

At this point I don't care off bad of stuff he did.. If you don't do something right away then you should be sent packing with any suit.. Two YEARS is way to long to wait.. If it bugs you now then it should have bugged you then and you should have done something about it THEN.. NOT TWO YEARS LATER!!!!

rant over..

Music City Miracles Let's play ' what if '

So Jeff Fisher wasn't fired as of yet, So the longer he is still around the more it appears he won't be fired

So what if Fisher stays and Vince Young is gone.

Do we use our 8th pick on a QB?  I think so, but I also think whoever we draft sits.  Fisher in his press conference said that he would be open to Kerry Collins returning, but also said not as a starter.

So WHICH Veteran QB would you like to see brought in to lead our team until the Draft pick is ready to go?

I would like to see David Carr, He played well for the Giants a few years back and sat on the 49ers bench because the Staff didn't like him.  He's got the arm, the smarts and is still mobile enough.  He just deveolped a tendency to throw off his back foot (something to do with setting the nfl sack record for a few years straight) so if he could get past that I think he would be a good "gap" player till whoever we draft is ready to go.

Your thoughts?

Music City Miracles My feeling about Jeff Fisher

I just get an odd feeling that Jeff Fisher is going to resign after todays game.  So what appears to be the majority on this site will get what they want.  Will be a sad day in Oilers/Titans history if he does.

With Bud Adams siding with "He whom not be named" and Coach Fisher not wanting to deal with another season of the drama and with Coach Fishers past indicating that he will keep it classy with a resignation.

Music City Miracles Fisher, What has happened? and Where would he go?

As most of you know. I have lot's of repect for Coach Fisher.  I still believe he is best for this team.  But maybe.. Just maybe he is going stale some with the Titans

OR!

He has for the first time in his career decided to mail it in? Is it possible that he has had enough of having Vince Young thrown down his throat?  Was Bud Adams comment of "they will have to work it out" Enough for Fisher to finally give in?

If he resigns then he is offically still part of the Titans I believe and can't be hired by another Team.  Some correct me if I'm wrong.  But if fired he will get paid by the Titans and still be able to move on to another team.

with that said.  Which team?  List of possible teams are

Vikings, Cowboys, Broncos, Texans, Raiders, Bengals, Chargers, Panthers.  Of these teams I think the Vikings, Cowboys and Panthers are out. I believe Cowboys have wanted Garrett since day one, The Vikings will be happy to Hire Frazier and he's been on a short list of head coaching for a while now.  Panthers are Cowhers team if he returns.  it was rumored a few years back that is the job he wants.

That leaves us with the Broncos, Texans, Raiders, Bengals and Chargers.  I think the Chargers would be the most likely spot if that job opens up and Adams fires Fisher.  I truely believe Turner is out because he's had many chances and failed not to mention they sent Marty packing after what I believe was a 14-2 season.  Second could be the Raiders.  Fisher is a USC guy and with Davis Cables job just isn't safe.. EVER.

IF fisher is let go the two JOBS I hope he doesn't get would be the Texans and Broncos.  Texans because its a division foe and the Broncos because I grew up hating their comeback wins of the Oilers.  And let's all just hope that a head coaching job doesn't open up in Indy either.

Anyways I'm still on the wagon for keeping fisher.. BUT WHAT IF.. where do you think he goes?

Music City Miracles Vince Youngs Injury

Some of the points being brought up in the "Jeff FIsher Mic'd up" Post critizing Fisher for not going to talk to Vince Young or, the one I like the best - Fisher didn't even listen to everything the trainner had to say.

Well it made me look a bit more into what kind of Injury Vince Young has. After researching it I'm Extremely confident that had Vince Young gone back into the game it would have been worse than Rusty being in.  He would not have been able to hold onto the ball in real time game action.  Sidelines is different.

Some Questions to bring up is. How common is this injury in football?  Was there another conversation speculating what type of injury it was prior to the conversation with saw?  Did someone come up and say. "We think it's the flexor Tendon"

Either way he couldn't GO!  OH.. and do an at home experiment!  go pick up a football without using your thumb.

See Below: Young has a Flexor Tendon tear.

Information found at http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=A00015

Tendons are tissues that connect muscles to bone. When muscles contract, tendons pull on bones. This is what causes some parts of the body to move. The muscles that move the fingers and thumb (the flexor muscles) are located in the forearm, above the wrist. Long tendons extend from the flexor muscles through the wrist and attach to the small bones of the fingers and thumb.

Tendons are stretched tightly as they connect the muscle to the bone. If the tendon tears, the end of the tendon that is released pulls back toward the area to which it remains attached. A tear (rupture) or cut of the tendon anywhere along its route, at the wrist, in the palm of the hand, or along the finger, may make it impossible to bend one or more fingers (thumb only has one flexor tendon, so IT is impossible to bend)

Each finger has two flexor tendons; the thumb has one tendon. The tendons run along the palm side of the fingers. They are very close to the surface of the skin, particularly where the skin folds as the finger bends.

One tendon attaches to the last bone of the finger and bends the tip. This is the longer tendon and is called the flexor digitorum profundus, or FDP.

The other tendon bends the middle joint of the finger. It is the shorter tendon and is called the flexor digitorum sublimis, or FDS

Surgical Treatment

Because the tendon cannot heal unless the ends are touching, a torn (ruptured) tendon must be repaired or sewn back to the muscle or bone. This requires surgery. It is usually best to have the surgery as soon as possible after the injury.

The hand surgeon will sew the tendon using special stitches on both the inside and outside of the tendon. It can take up to two months before the repair is healed and it is strong enough that the hand can be used without protection. It may take another month or so before the hand can be used with any force.

Music City Miracles I got to thinking

All this Fire Jeff Fisher talk, and Vince Young or Jeff Fisher who's going to stay and who's going to go.

Bud Adams has stated that they are both under contract.  So let's say one has to go (obvious)

If Adams doesn't fire Fisher but instead Trades him.  How does that affect the Rooney Rule?  The rule being that a minority coach must be interviewed

Does the said trading team interview a minority canidate and then trade for Fisher?  Just wondering

Music City Miracles Pro VY / Fisher all Titans Fans

I'm posting a fanPost because the Game thread and post Game thread have gotten out of hand.

I have one questions for everyone!  How did Todays game become a debate about VY and Fisher?

IF VY hadn't blown up, IF VY played the past two years like Payton Manning it WOULD not have changed the outcome of today!!!!!!!!!

VY would still be on IR and we would still be starting a Rookie QB!!!  Our O-Coordinator would still be dealing with Cancer!!!  Those are the FACTS!  Nothing in todays game Changes that!

The fact's about both VY and Fisher are present and evident.  It all depends on how you view it.  But Fisher is our coach, VY is on IR, Defense couldn't stop the run, O-line couldn't open a crack.

Fisher is a good Coach.  He has proved that over and over.  Does he make mistakes?  Yes

VY is a talent.  am I disappointed at where he is in year 5, his mental issues and committment? YES

But again todays coaching IS NOT a debate about VY.  Biggest problem was a Rookie QB. HE DID NOT PERFORM well and that IS NOT about VY at all.

What our team needed today was a QB with more experience.  Could VY have performed better than Rusty?  Yes, far and above.  Does that mean we would have won, does that mean VY is better than Fisher.. NO.. Facts are Rusty sucked.. VY is on IR (see I said it again) and none of the WHAT IF's change anything.

We need collins back next week, Plain and simple!

So stop hijacking post about VY or Fisher.  It DOES NOT CHANGE a thing at this point!  There will be plenty of time this off-season to debate that.

I want to say it one more time.  There is no fact/proof or any thing else that says todays game proves anything for either Side of the debate.  VY could have very well sucked it up as well.  But once again he's on IR and not an issue right now.

So let it go and get on with what we do have and what needs to be fixed.  Because there are Plenty more problems with this team with OR without VY on it.

Music City Miracles ONLY Vince Young must go

My take is that Vince Young is the one that must go and this is why.

I posed the question yesterday that someone show me examples of other players having problems with Jeff Fisher.  I only got two examples.  McNair incident which wasn't valid because McNair never had a problem with Fisher.  The other was pointed out by BBB and that was Bulluck.  But I discount that one as well because Vince Young had Bullucks ear.

There is no incident of player problems with Fisher UNTIL Vince Young arrived. Most of his players still show up for his charity events EVEN After being off the team.

He is a well Repected Coach not from only the players but other NFL personel.

Vince Young = Tiki Barbar/Jermey Shockey of the Giants. Both those players had a problem with Tom Coughlin and they caused a seperation in the locker room.  But as HISTORY shows once both were gone Coughlin won a Superbowl and there was no longer any seperation in the locker room. He is consider a very good coach.

Again History shows that there is no other incidents with players and Jeff Fisher.   Vince Young thinks that he is above his coach and this last incident shows that.  What this tells me is that he can't be coached and that is probably why he doesn't have fishers Trust.  I'm willing to bet that whatever Dinger or Fish say to Young falls on deaf ears.  How can you trust your QB if he thinks he's better than you?

Do you see what I'm saying?  This is the NFL and Fisher doesn't want to lose games.  Have they lost games because of how the game is called? YES!  But if you can't trust your QB because of how he acts then you have to change how you call a game.  That explains why games are called differently for Collins (and the QT rusty got)

I don't see how Fisher get's any Blame.  HE IS THE COACH AND IF THE COACH SAYS SIT THE BENCH YOU DO IT!! But Young Doesn't think he has to listen to him.  So I would be damned if I would deal with that if I was Coach!

VY supports think about it!  He can't be like that. He hasn't proven to be a Brady, or Manning!

I really hope Bud Adams stands behind Fisher, Because he is what is best for this team. Not Young.  It's also a scarey thought to think what will happen if Adams stands behind Young.  IF that happens and Fisher goes then NO COACH wil be able to control Young and win with him.

Football is a TEAM sport.  Vince Young does not understand that at this point.

Music City Miracles Since Jeff Fisher has been coach

A lot lately has been made of Jeff Fisher and his decision to bench VY.  That has spurred many debate on if Fisher is a good coach.  Some has come down to winning percentage and the fact he does not have a superbowl ring.

I have always stood by that Fisher does MORE with less than anyone in the league.  In an attempt to prove this I’ve decided to look at all the superbowl winning rosters since Fisher has become coach in 1994.

1994  - Dallas Cowboys

Aikman, Smith, Irvin, Moose, etc

1995 – San Francisco 49ers

Young, Rice, Norton, Harris

1996 – Dallas Cowboys

See above

1997 – Green Bay packers

Farve, white, Chmura, brooks, Freeman, howard

1998 – Denver Broncos

Elway, Davis, McCaffery, Zimmerman, Smith, Sharpe, ect

1999 – Denver Broncos

See above

2000 – St. Louis Rams

Bruce, Faulk, Warner, holt, carter – a LB in the wrong spot but got lucky

2001 – Baltimore Ravens

Lewis, McAlister, McCrary, Ogden, this team was about Defense obviously

2002 – New England Patriots

Brady, Branch, Brown, Law, ect

2003 – Tampa Bay Buc’s

Alstott, Barber, brooks, Jackson, Johnson, Lynch.  Another team about defense

2004 – New England Patriots

See above

2005 – New England Patriots

See above

2006 – Pittsburg Steelers

Bettis, Big Ben, Ward,

2007 – Indy Colts

Manning, Wayne, Harrison, Clark

2008 – New York Giants

Manning, Tuck, strahan

2009 – Pittsburg Steelers

See above

2010 – New Orleans Saints

Bree’s, Colston, Sharper, shockey

The one thing all these teams have in common except maybe 2 (ravens, buc’s) they have HOF QB’s or potential HOF QB’s.  Rosters on the earlier team’s are loaded with HOF’ers

As much as I love Wycheck, Mason, Rolle, Roberston, McNair, Kearse and so forth.  I’m not sure how many will end up as HOF’ers.  George would be to me, McNair is probably on the outside looking in even though I would take him as my QB over many of the superbowl winners.

I’m not the best at writing post here, but the one thing I ask everyone to think about is the past rosters that Fisher has had to work with and tell me, was 8-8 seasons failures?

Think of Fisher with the early Cowboys roster.  And then think Chan Gailey won a superbowl with them, would you say Gailey is a better coach than fisher because of his superbowl?

If we don't have Fisher then who do we get and what do we get?

Music City Miracles I have a gut feeling

I have a gut feeling that the Titans are going to make a play for either boldin or Edwards.

I'm even more convinced that they will after reading MR's comments.  My guess is it's Edwards.  If the Browns draft say Crabtree then they look to move Edwards.

I would think our 30th and a 4th rounder makes the deal.  being that we pick 30th it's like a low 2nd rounder in this years draft.  You could argue that anyone selected above the 16th 17th spot could be a 2nd round pick.

But that's just my gut feeling

Music City Miracles Need Help understanding something Please

I have a few questions that I hope someone help me with.  concerning Players pay and the Labor agreement.

Let's use Collins as an example.  He just signed a 2-yr Deal with 8.5 Mil Guarrented. If he plays both years he get's the full amount.. assuming he hits any bounus.  My first question is..  Does any of the Money he makes go towards Retirement?  Do NFL players have a 401K?

My next question is... The owners opted out of the recent labor agreement because the players get 60%!!!!! of the revenue that the NFL and Teams make.  Now my question here is.. Where and Who the hell get's that 60%?  I know it's the players, but do players get paid plus a yearly cut of the revenue?  Are they double dipping in other words?  Besides game checks do the players get a end of year revenue check?  Is the 60% part of a 401K matching type deal?  The union doesn't get it because the players pay union fee's and that is what pays the officers and run's the union..

I hope someone can help answer my questions..

Thanks!

Music City Miracles Hey Guys! Long time no post! My off-season

Sorry for the lack of support and posting!  Life has been pretty busy with the baby and running the boys to hockey games and practice..  Plus the Mother board on my computer went T*T's up.. anyways I'm back and been giving this off season some thought.

There is only one player deserving of the franchise tag on this team.  That is Rob Bironas so I’d use it on him if a deal can’t be done.. But I suspect a long term deal will be struck by the end of this month.

Now on to my sign and let walk players.  Let’s get to the meat and potatoes!

Big Al!!!  Well I say let him walk….   (ducks under desk)  Calm down and read what I’m about to say.. then re-read it..  and it’s ok to disagree with me.  Let’s take the past two years out of the picture.  Ok now!  What has Big Al done?  Exactly!  Up until two years ago Big Al was on the verge of being known as not a first round bust. But a player who wasn’t worthy of the 15th pick.. So what changed two years ago?  MONEY!  What made him so dominate this year? MONEY!  Big Al prior to the past two years was known as a player who takes a play or two off here and there.  Even this year you see it.. The man when he is motivated is THE BEST at his position.  But I believe once he gets paid.  Well kiss that production good bye.

Kind of funny that during a contract year and knowing he won’t get franchised if he reaches certain things and yet ends up playing the most games (14) since.. 05 I believe.. haven’t looked it up.. also kind of funny that he gets injured I believe the week after being selected to the pro-bowl which in turn guaranteed him free agency.

In short Big Al isn’t worth the designation of highest paid Defensive player.  Jarad Allen on the other hand is a self motivated man and earned his money and continued to earn his money.  Big Al Keeps saying I want to stay in Tenn.. but in the same breath says there is no home town discount.  Sound a lot like a man who just wants his money and once he gets it he is going back to Old Big Al.  I think the front office is aware of this and will make him an honest and fair contract offer and in the end it’s not enough and he walks.  He goes to another team and ends up playing maybe 10 games.  But he will never be the Big Al of the past two years.

Kerry Collins: Easy enough to re-sign him to a 2 year deal should get done.  He’s already said if he doesn’t start He’ll retire.  He can pretty much thank Ryan, and Flacco for eliminating a starting chance on any other team other than the Titans.  It’s a copy cat league and too many teams are going young coaches and young QB’s

Chris Simms:  I’m a fan of Simm’s.. so I’d like to see them resign him to a two year deal.. I think he’d come cheap at this point

Brandon Jones: The man can play and can Get open.  He’s just not your #1 type WR.  If the Titans ever get a true #1 WR then My feeling is that Jones could be the Eddie Mac/ Wayne Cherbet type player. I say resign him at the right price

Chris Carr:  A must!  Young.. good in the return game.. good talent at CB.. not starter but solid Depth for the position

Scaife: I like him.. But he’s probably a little bitter about the VY thing.  He sounds like a player that wants out so let him go

Fuller/King: No reason NOT to bring them back..  Yeah they aren’t as good as Cortland or Harper.. But guess what? You can’t have 4 players at the position as good as Cortland without being in Salary cap hell, Plus!  You get talented starters then they don’t want to be back ups and become a problem in the locker room

Every other FA I didn’t mention can go…

Now on to eliminating the last bites and pieces of the Chow era.  Trade VY and LW.  LW showed me nothing last year.. which is funny.. because Titans Management must have known something, Henry and CJ consecutive years with LW on the roster?  It’s time to get Rid of LW while he has value.  Same thing with VY.  He can do well.. but not as a Titan.. sometimes there is bridges you cross with friends but you can never cross back over with those same friends..  VY will never be able to win the locker room over again in Tenn.. He needs  a fresh start where there isn’t slighted teammates.  I’d let them go for 3rd round picks at this point.

Ok.. let the!!  You’re an idiot bashing commence!

Music City Miracles Making the Playoffs - How I see it

Hey Guys!

This is just a quick Diary on what I think needs to happen in order for us to make the playoffs.  I'll List them in order of importance outside the importance of us just winning the last 3 games.

Week 15: We need

  1. Houston to Beat Denver
  2. Pittsburg to beat Jacksonville
  3. Colts to beat Oakland
  4. Cleveland to beat the Bills
These 4 points are likely to happen

Week 16: We need

1. Cinny to beat the Browns

This point is likely to happen since it's a division game and Cinny is at home

Week 17: We need

1. Houston to beat Jacksonville

If these points happen then we should Edge Jacksonville out of the playoffs based off of our division Record.

Then Us and Cleveland would be the 5th and 6th seeds.

Jacksonville has a history of blowing late season games and let's hope that happens again.

Now if I missed anything guys let me know!  But those are the Key games as I see it

Music City Miracles All I want for Christmas

Is a FREAKING WR/TE who can catch and HOLD onto the Ball!

It's time for the team to start looking at Ealy and Davis a lot more in the game.

Moulds can catch, but can't seperate.  Brandon Jones can Seperate but can't Catch! Gage is having to do it all by himself it seems.

We already know Jones cost us the colts game, but how many more is he going to cost us because he can't catch?

Scaife, Well I've given up on him and Troupe.  Is Erron Kinney still out there?

Oh and Lendale!  You want to talk about how good of a Running back you are, Well try doing something all good running backs do!  HOLD ON TO THE DAMN BALL!  How many red zone fumbles does he have now?  Makes me sick!

Chris Brown always looks good so I really think the Titans should start him when he is healthy and Chris Henry should be his back up. I have no faith is Lendale white at all anymore.

I'm glad to see that Fisher and Chow are letting Vince go now.  You can see the confidence growing in him these past two games.  Now if we can get Albert back and get back to apply crazy amount of pressure then we will actually start winning games by pretty good margins!

Music City Miracles Off-topic. Minnesota custody battle

Minnesota Court Case

(If you haven't read about this case in the news .....)

Minneapolis, MN (AP) - A nine-year old boy was at the center of a Hennepin County courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him

The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents - and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with Minnesota child custody law and regulation requiring that family unity be maintained to the highest possible degree.

The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more than his parents - and he adamantly refused to live with her.

When the judge then suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy cried and said that they also beat him.

After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have custody of him.

After two recesses to check legal references - and confer with child welfare officials, the judge granted official temporary custody to the Minnesota Vikings, whom the boy firmly believes are not capable of beating anyone.....

Music City Miracles Hey Joy Kat

Unlike the other guys on this site you have opened my eyes and I think you might be on to something about VY.

You appear to me like you study QB's and do a good job at it.  I'd like for you to give me your Opinion of this up and coming QB based off his numbers from the first 3 years.

I'm not sure how to judge him yet.

Year #1

Comp Att  Pct   Yds    Avg TD Int Sck  SckY Rate
123  259  47.5  1,663  6.4 7  14  28   218  54.9

Year #2

Comp Att Pct   Yds    Avg TD Int Sck  SckY Rate
214  380 56.3  2,598  6.8 18 15  24   158  76.8

Year #3

Comp Att Pct   Yds    Avg TD Int Sck SckY Rate
327  605 54.0  3,891  6.4 22 23  38  307  70.2

I think he's going to be a restricted/unrestricted Free Agent next year

Music City Miracles Which Way Do you Go?

Ok people!  the Game of the "year" is coming up Next Weekend and I'm curious who you will be going for.

Do you go for the Pat's because you can't stand another team in our divsion winning a game?

Do you go for the Colt's because you can't stand how arrogant the Pat's are?

This is what I'd like to see.  I want the Pat's to win because it would be a loss for the Colts and put us 1 Game behind them (assuming we win sunday too).  If the Pat's win then we could very well be playing for the Divsion Title week 17.

Now I can't stand the Pat's, But I hope they go undefeated in the Regular Season!  Go straight to the AFC Championship game and LOSE TO US!

that would just be the best thing in the world.  and not only lose to us, but get shut right down and we beat them by 10 plus

How do you want this Sundays game against Indy and New England to go?

Music City Miracles A Little Humor

A friend I work with sent this to me.  He's from St. Louis!  (Yes, makes for exciting talks between us with him being a Card's and Rams fan and me being an Astro's and Titans Fan)

Q: What do you call 47 millionaires around a TV watching the Super Bowl?

    A: The St. Louis Rams.

Q: What do the St. Louis Rams and Billy Graham have in common?

A: They both can make 70,000 people stand up and yell "Jesus Christ."

Q: How do you keep a St. Louis Ram out of your yard?

    A: Put up goal posts.

Q: Where do you go in St. Louis in case of tornado?

A: To the Dome - they never get a touchdown there.

Q: What do you call a St. Louis Ram with a SuperBowl ring?

    A: A thief.

Q: What's the difference between the St. Louis Rams and a dollar bill?

A: You can still get four quarters out of a dollar bill.

Q: What do the St. Louis Rams and possums have in common?

A: Both play dead at home and get killed on the road.

Music City Miracles Chris Henry

Does anyone else feel that the Titans should give Henry some more playing time?

He avg about 5.1 yards a carry Sunday and looked really explosive and showed a lot of confidence in running the ball.  Looked good catching out of the back field to.

Just something about him makes it look like he can bust it at anytime.

I don't get that feeling with White or Brown.

His first game as a Pro he get's 13 touches and goes for 69 yards and a TD.  That has to give the coaches reason to keep him active on game days.

I don't know who they could put inactive in his place, maybe one of the 4 TE's.

What do you guys think?

Music City Miracles If VY can't play

Who the heck do we sign to back up Collins?

With all the QB problems out there I don't think there is a single QB left!

Rattay is with the Cards, who also just signed Hasselback.  Vinny is in Carolina now.

think we can get flutie to play another year?  Jeff George?

Seriously!  We need someone to back up Collins if he goes down and I can't think of a single QB other than maybe Shaun King to come in and do the job.

Music City Miracles Is it just me OR

are the cowboys really that good?

I don't think so!  AT ALL!  don't get me wrong, I'm From Texas, so behind the Titans I'm a cowboys fan.

But every time I see them play they just don't look crisp and well displined!  Which is a trait of a Wade Phillps team.  He's too nice to his players.

Also they haven't played anyone.  in 4 games they've beat two 0 - 4 teams in the Phins and Rams.  won a Shoot out with the Giants and beat a struggling Bears team!

I can't wait till two weeks from now!  when they play the Pat's and then the Vikings.  I think thier real colors will show.

Just like the chargers, Lack of displine is killing them
