CelticsBlog Fitting Trade Puzzle Pieces Together

The "Crazy Season" has commenced. I have to admit my guilty pleasure is trade rumors. I love thinking about how certain pieces could fit into a larger puzzle. Well over the last day we have heard rumors of Big Baby, Uno Uno or Whatever Your Name Is going to the Charlotte Bobcats for point guard D.J. Augustin. This morning word came out that Larry Brown may be interested in bringing Rasheed Wallace to be a veteran presence. We have heard Ray Allen is on the trading block. Whenever Danny Ainge denies something you know he is doing the opposite. I decided to try to piece a few rumors together and see if these smaller pieces may lead Danny to acquire a much larger piece that could extend this window! As we know, Kevin Garnett is not the same guy. He has a lot of miles on those knees and it appears as if he is laboring. If I were Danny I would look to acquire KG's eventual replacement now. Here is a three team deal between the Celtics, Bobcats and Suns that I am proposing. The Bobcats are looking for a veteran big man, the Suns are looking to clear cap space and get rid of contracts and the Celtics are looking to add some juice to the team! Feel free to poke holes in my scenario! I have thick skin and can take it! Could Amare be Danny's latest target?!

It works in the ESPN Trade Machine (http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yzoscjj)

Boston Trades: Ray Allen, Rasheed Wallace
Boston Gets: Leandro Barbosa, Amare Stoudemire and Stephen Graham

Charlotte Trades: Stephen Graham, Ronald Murray and DJ Augustin
Charlotte Gets: Rasheed Wallace

Phoenix Trades:
Leandro Barbosa and Amare Stoudemire
Sacramento Gets: DJ Augustin, Ray Allen and Ronald Murray

CelticsBlog Tanguay Admits To Goof!

Gary Tanguay from CSNNE has issued an apology for reporting inaccurate information last week on the Tanguay and Zolak Show on 98.5 The Sports Hub. Early last week, Tanguay reported on his show that a Celtics' official informed him that the team had a plan to be players in this years free agency frenzy. As many pointed out here, Tanguay was wrong! Here is his statement: http://www.csnne.com/pages/mobile_site_landing?Gary-Tanguay-My-bad=1&blockID=176729&feedID=3755

CelticsBlog Ray Allen Delivers On and Off The Court

Today, Ray Allen's "Ray of Hope Foundation held its annual Holiday Giving Tree Event at the Natick Collection. Beginning at 10 AM this morning, patrons could stop by and pick an ornament off of the holiday tree. Each ornament had a child's name with a particular present that he or she wished for. Later on in the afternoon, Ray stopped by to thank fans for purchasing these gifts and signed autographs to show his appreciation (hyper-extended finger and all!).

This event was very rewarding for me. During these busy times, I sometimes lose track of how lucky I am. I have a stable job, a house over my head, a wonderful family and a number of great friends. I will wake up on Christmas morning with presents under the tree. Some people are not as lucky as I am. I figured this was a wonderful opportunity to spread the holiday spirit.

It was a true pleasure to meet Ray. He thanked each individual as they met him and he struck up a small little conversation. I hope you enjoyed this event as much as I did if you attended! Ray has delivered for Celtics' fans countless times and he really stepped up and delivered for the children of Boston today!

CelticsBlog Running Back Chris Johnson Issues A Challenge to Rajon Rondo

Chris-johnson-scoring_medium

via lesterslegends.com

Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson has been lighting up the NFL as of late. This past Sunday, Johnson tied an NFL record. He has rushed for 125 yards of more for the sixth straight game. The only two other running backs to complete this feat are Earl Campbell and Eric Dickerson. So know you are thinking, what does this have to do the Boston Celtics and why is this being posted on CelticsBlog?

Well just a little while ago, Chris Johnson issued a challenge to our point guard (Rajon Rondo) via his Twitter account (@ChrisJohnson28):

"My bradda @lambo6 (Marquis Daniels) called me and said they point guard rondo want to race me for 2k that's easy money set it up on espn"

"@lambo6 (Marquis Daniels) tell rondo I got a blank check (@mikesimswalker voice)"

So how much would you pay to see the fastest man in the NFL race arguably the fastest man in the NBA? Whose your money on? Will CJ28 leave Rondo in his dust or will Johnson get Rondo'd?

CelticsBlog Thoughts and Prayers to Ray Allen and His Family

Rayallenson_medium

via cm1.theinsider.com

As Thanksgiving comes to a close and the holiday season commences, please keep Ray Allen and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Many of you may recall that during the 2008 NBA Finals, Ray's son Walker was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes. Ray and his wife Shannon have put in countless hours working to find a cure since then. Recently, it was reported that Walker has experienced some complications. Ray may miss the next week to tend to his son's needs. Basketball should be the last thing on Ray's mind at this moment.

I can speak from personal experience. My mother, Beverly, battled this horrific disease since she was 11 years old. She would take daily insulin injections. Never once did my mother complain. My mom battled circulation problems and eventually lost sight in her right eye. She remained active and if you looked at her you would never know she had any health concerns. This past March, my mother passed away unexpectedly at the age of 55 due to complications caused by her diabetes.

Diabetes is not talked about it enough. Hopefully, Ray will be able to bring light to this issue. My mother battled hard and I continue to fight in her memory as well. During this holiday season, take time to put Ray, Shannon and Walker in your thoughts!

I am sure I speak for every Celtics fan! Ray, take your time. Basketball just isn't that important. Its time for Celtics fans to thank Ray for all the thrills he has provided us since he donned green!

We are thinking of you Ray!

If you are looking for the perfect holiday gift for a Ray Allen fan you can help Ray's fight against Diabetes by purchasing one of these unique shirts: http://www.muzeconnects.com/charity/ray-allen-jdrf-and-muze-clothing/

CelticsBlog Could Rip Hamilton be on the Move?

Could Joe Dumars be up to it again? Rumors persist this morning that a deal for Rip Hamilton may be imminent (http://www.pistonpowered.com/2009/10/are-the-pistons-on-the-verge-of-trading-richard-hamilton/). He did not participate in this mornings shoot around. A trading partner has not been named as of yet. Danny wouldn't deal Ray Allen for Rip, right? Would you even consider breaking up the Big Three right now?

CelticsBlog 'Sheed's Impact is Already Felt

Rasheed-wallace-boston-celtics-psd32003_medium

via www.officialpsds.com

My morning ritual includes getting to work and perusing the headlines. This morning one story stuck out. Rasheed Wallace was in town yesterday spending time with the children of the Joseph Lee School in Dorchester (http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball/celtics/articles/2009/09/23/celtics_wallace_is_making_his_way_in_the_community/). Camp is set to begin next week. This gesture impresses me. 'Sheed could be home resting up but instead he came to Boston to spend time with children and make an impact in their lives. I applaud him! He is off to a great  start in Green! Making an impact on the court is always great, but making an impact in a child's life is even better in my mind.

For those of you who have not embraced Twitter as of yet, Stephon Marbury posted the following on his Twitter   account this morning:

@StarburyMarbury WhiteDanny what's up. Call me back. from UberTwitter

Does this mean Steph has come to the realization that his NBA career might be winding down if he does not convice the Celtics to bring him back ? Would you re-sign Steph even though he has had a tumultuous offseason?

CelticsBlog What A Sports Day!

@sugarray20 woooo! Got the ones in the Park

From time to time, you just  have one of those days. One of those days, which could not have been scripted any better than it was. For me 2009, has been a pretty crappy year. Earlier this year, for you of those that do not know my mother passed away unexpectedly. She passed away from heart complications caused by her Type 1Diabetes. So when I look back on 2009, one day is going to stick out and that will be September 14, 2009.

My friends and family would classify me as a Boston sports fanatic! I love all of the hometown teams. From an early age I saw the love and passion both of my parents had for the Boston sports teams and it made me want to follow in their footsteps. So yesterday, my wife and I had tickets for the return of Tom Brady to Foxboro (sometimes I call him JC on the Football Field). I was so excited. I had mapped out the entire day. First, I would go to work, leave work around 2 PM, run a few errands and then pick up my wife and headed down to Foxboro around 3:45. Well things didn't quite go as planned. Ray Allen through me a little curve ball.

I like to embrace technology and new wave things. When I heard last year, Paul Pierce was giving away tickets to home games on Twitter I decided to check this Twitter thing out. Since then I check my Twitter account hourly. I love the updates from all sorts of people, but I enjoy the access some professional sports players have given the fans. So last week, Ray decided he was going to use his Twitter account for a little fun and games. Ray was going to take some of his worn shoes and hide them wherever he was that particular day. Ray also said that if you found the shoes he would meet up with you at a game during the 2009-2010 season to personally sign them. Late last week, Ray left shoes in Brookline and Hartford.

As I was preparing to leave work yestarday, Ray tweeted that he would be hiding a couple of pairs of shoes and to look out for clues. As I headed to Boston to run errands he posted the following clues:

Ray "They're in play"

http://twitpic.com/hqaoq  from TwitterFon

Ray  "Find this picture and u will find the shoes" http://twitpic.com/hqaz4

from TwitterFon

As soon as I saw the picture, I had an idea where the sneakers were located. Ray hid the shoes at a park across the street from the Museum of Science. I calmly got off the highway and drove over to the location. As I arrived, I began to look at the two pictures trying to analyze where the shoes were located. I have never been really lucky so I started to question if I would find the shoes! After searching for 10 minutes, I hit the jackpot! I found the shoes! I was so excited! I tweeted Ray to let him know that I had found them:

Me  "woooo! Got the ones in the Park" http://twitpic.com/hqf19

from TwitterFon in reply to Ray

The day only got better from there. My wife and I attended the Patriots game last night and saw more magic performed by Tom Brady.

What a great day. My one piece of advice to all of you is before you knock Twitter, embrace it. You never know what type of opportunity will arise. I am grateful to Ray Allen! He didn't have to take the time to interact with fans, but he did. I really look forward to hopefully meeting him this year and thanking him for all he has done since he arrived here in Boston!

Just figured I would share my little story!

CelticsBlog D-Wade in Green?

Now that my dreams of having Allen Iverson in Green have been crushed I have to move onto a new binky. Late last night, Gary Tanguay from Comcast Sports New England and 98.5 The Sports Hub posted the following on his Twitter account:

"Hey, check out my blog at CSNNE.COM. Could Dwayne Wade ever become a Celtic?"

Gary's blog goes on to talk about how he thinks the Celts will make a play for Wade and Rondo may be the bait. So I ask you, would you deal Rondo for D-Wade? Discuss amongst yourselves.

CelticsBlog Does This Interview Change Your Opinion of Allen Iverson?

Alleniversonceltics_medium

via cdn3.sbnation.com

Eric Snow sat down with former Sixers teammate Allen Iverson to discuss a myriad of topics (interview can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUGuCedxo7I). Snow asks Iverson specifically if he would be willing to accept a reduced role with a championship contender in order to get a shot at a ring. Iverson responds by saying winning a championship is the only thing he has yet to accomplish in his storied career. He states that his main goal is winning and the Detroit situation has been over blow.

I am a diehard Boston Celtics fan, but have always admired A.I.'s game from a far. Most people know I have been touting Danny Ainge making a move to lock up Iverson for the upcoming season. A.I. will have a chance to rebuild his reputation and contribute to a team that has championship aspirations. I truly believe he is misunderstood. One day we will look back on Iverson's career and say there has never been a "little guy" that has accomplished what he has.

Danny is armed with one last roster spot. There are three veterans in the locker room that will bring out the best in this star crossed combo guard. If the choice is Memphis or Boston, where would you go? This could be the final piece that secures Banner 18 in its rightful home! The House that Red built! Danny be bold! You have made moves before that the general public disagreed with at the time! Bring the Answer home and bring us one step closer to Banner 18!

Where talkin bout Allen Iverson! Allen Iverson! Not some bit player, no some scub! Where talkin bout Allen Iverson!

Do you believe Allen Iverson when he states his goal is to contribute to a championship team?

CelticsBlog Love Him or Hate Him, We May Soon Know the Answer

It appears that a deal for Allen Iverson may be imminent. Within the hour A.I. (@alleniverson) has Tweeted the following:

My people just informed me that we are getting close to a deal. I asked them to call me the when its done. I am   so ready to know!

I have not been this eager with anticipation since the night before the NBA Draft in 96. Then I knew where I was going, now I want to know!

I have been blessed to make plenty of money in this league. Now it's not about the money, its about playing me getting back on the court &playing every game like its my last! Stay tuned.

The last quote A.I. provides intrigues me. There has been a lot of discussion here on whether the C's should sign Iverson. Most critics have claimed that A.I. wants to sign for at least the mid-level and will not sign for less.  This quote makes me wonder would he consider a minimum deal for a chance to win a title. I believe A.I. would thrive in this environment. He would have a one-year window to re-establish his value and go back on the market in 2010. My belief is a team that loses out in the 2010 FA Derby would consider bringing in A.I. if he can re-establish his value. Before you say no way, think back. What were your thoughts when the name Stephon Marbury first came up?Discuss amongst yourselves!
