all that really needs to be said was that i was at dave righetti's no hitter in yankee stadium on july 4, 1983... most people go their whole lives without being at a no-hitter, so i feel like i'm playing with the house's money...
ironically, i was also at the world series in 1957 and 1958 (as a kid), so i JUST missed maybe also being at don larsen's gem in 1956 (the last yankee no-hitter before righetti's)...
but i wasn't there because i was a yankee fan - no way... when i was born, my parents had been seniors at uc santa barbara... the last thing they wanted to do was spend their senior year(s) stuck in the house with me... so, my mom devised a strategy... find the dumbest jock on campus and offer him free tutoring twice a week, following which they go out and he does his homework with me rolling around in the crib... they thought it was a one year thing and it worked well for all of us... but, after we moved east, this guy became a hall of fame third baseman and left tickets for us (polo grounds) every time he came to nyc, including the world series in 1957 and 1958 (yankee stadium)...
baseball was in my blood early...
