The best news for Chiefs fans is they have the right man to get this ship righted in Scott Pioli. The problem is that it is unlikely to happen overnight, especially considering the roster he inherited. To build a team that can play at a consistent championship level for the long haul, decisions need to be made with the proper time horizon in place. That is why you won't see Pioli make any knee-jerk moves to appease the media or re-ignite fan interest. Not going to happen. What is going to happen is that he'll continue to methodically make deals to get to the Chiefs to a place where they can put forth a winning effort on a weekly basis.

He seems to understand the process.

Scott Pioli stuck Haley with a craptastic roster. The stupidity of playing all season with special-team players masquerading as starting linebackers and safeties has caught up with the Chiefs the last month. And so has playing musical waiver wire at receiver.

Good evening boys and girls...Tonight we get to see an amazing matchup between NFC West rival Cardinals and 49ers. Should help us take our mind off of the week. (Photo source)

The Chiefs turned the ball over four times. Quarterback Matt Cassel dropped a pick-6 fumble into the gut of a blitzing San Diego defensive back. Running back Jamaal Charles coughed up a fumble when the game was still close. Cassel tossed an interception. There’s another turnover that I can’t remember at the moment. Oh, that’s right. Center Rudy Niswanger zinged a shotgun snap over the head of Cassel....Let’s deal with the obvious. The Chiefs are not as bad as they looked on Sunday. San Diego is not 29 points better than the Chiefs. The Chiefs came out feeling a touch too good about themselves, a little loosey-goosey, and the Chargers slapped them into reality.

MNF Open-Thread: Community Hangover Edition

As a community coming off of our biggest win in the last few years, I can assume that many of us are emotionally hungover and many more are probably actually hungover. This should be a decent game tonight and it certainly helps that aren't trying to be distracted from our game this week...

Fun fact I can't hear enough about yesterday....The number 1&2 teams from the almighty AFC North fell to the number 3&4 teams from the lowly AFC West...Trap Division.

Prediction for tonight?

What do you all think?

"Haley’s transformation from coaching mad man to competent leader has been going on for several weeks. Sunday, he finally struck the right balance. His team reflected his new spirit. The players wanted to shock the Steelers as much as their coach, whose father played and worked for the Steelers.

Are things perfect between Haley and his players? No. But there’s been a lot of progress."

"...On Thursday in their offensive team meeting, they're installing their red zone offense, inside the 20. Todd Haley comes up to Cassel and he says, 'Listen, we're putting a new play in this week. Something I saw in the Steeler's film.' Cassel saw it, a little shovel pass in the middle to Jamaal Charles. He called it on Sunday and as soon as the play was called, in his head Cassel said, 'Touchdown.'"
