Our Next DeRo

People, let's face it, DeRo is never coming back, and we really need to get over it. Now I'm on here quite a lot, probably about 15 minutes a day, 3 times a day, at the very least. I don't believe that this has ever had it's own fanpost recently, or has been talked about much, so I thought it would be a good topic to discuss. The man who I think the Cubs should go out and get is Mark Teahen.

Teahen appeals to me very much mostly because he has the versatility of DeRo. He's played 313 games at third, 257 in the outfield, 24 at first, and has only played 3 at second, even though he was excpected to be there this season. He's at third now due to the injury of Alex Gordon, but will be back there shortly.

His offensive numbers are also extremely similar ro DeRo's, he's on pace to hit over 20 homers this year, has a career batting average of 270, has drove in around 60 runs every year, and scored around 70 runs each year. He can even steal a base, which he has stolen 3 of this year, and has a decent ops this year of 788. However, he doesn't take as many walks (18), as DeRo (25).

Defensively, Teahen also appears to be similar. They have posted similar range factors and fielding percentages. Let's also not forget that Teahen is younger (27) than DeRo (33). Overall, this trade would make sense for the Royals, who are falling fast, at 6 games back in the central. I think the Cubs could put together a couple of prospects, such as Fox and Atkins, to make the Royals happy. Teahen is being paid about 3.5 million a year, which would mean if the Cubs trade 1 million worth of players, would only be adding 2.5 million to the payroll. Thoughts?

What the Red Sox Did

As many of you probably kow, Aramis Ramirez went down with an injury yeaterday, and the Cubs are also dealing with the injuries of Lee and Zambrano, and Soto isn't hitting well. The Red Sox, have had similar problems this year. First, their centerfielder and their shortstop both go down with injuries, Lowries being season ending. So they call up Nick Green and Johnathon Van Every, and they step it up. Van Every is slugging 636 and Green is hitting 278 and drove in 11. Then Dice-K goes down with an injury, so they call on Justin Masterson. Now Masterson started off good, but then declined a bit. But that's not the point, the point is, he gave his team a chance to win in 2 of his starts. These 3 men have kept the Red Sox winning while their everyday players have been out. As for other guys stepping up, the Cubs need to bring someone up who can play third (if I'm not mistaken, can't Fox play third?) and he needs to step it up. So, who will that be? Who will, step it up? If nobody can, then we're staring at 2009 Chicago Cubs, the team that could've.

Some Issues I have...

I'm not a ledge jumper. I just have some issues with this team and some of its players that need to be fixed.

1. Carlos Zambrano takes hitting too seriously

Is it just me, or does it seem like every inning after this guy has a bad at-bat, or strikes out or something, he gives up a run or two the next inning? That needs to be fized. He is a pitcher, not a hitter. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that he values all parts of the game, but he takes it WAY too seriously.

2. Luis Vizczaino was doind fine, why DFA him?

Luis Vizcaino hasn't been bad at all. In his small sample size (yes, I do realize it is a small sample size), he's walked none and gave up no runs, and a sub 1 whip.

3. Mike Fontenot needs to hit because Aaron Miles is his backup

Fonty needs to start swinging a much better stick, especially since Aaron Miles is his backup. I understand it could just be a slump, but I'm starting to worry about this guy bringing last years numbers into an everyday job. And Aaron Miles has been terrible. I was originally very happy with the pickup of this guy, but nall he's shown me is his ability to strikeout and look at pitches.

4. Milton Bradley is pretty badly hurt

Here's one I'm very concerned about. Lou says he won't be in the lineup until he's 100%, but when will that be. He said he knew he was still hurt because of his poor performence last night, but that performence was no different than what he was doing before.

That's all my rants for now, and I'm only saying this because I'm mad. Peavy.
