Interview With Clint Malarchuk at 50
Deadspin, fantastic article. "I'm walking around with a bullet in my head and a scar on my neck." Do yourself a favor and click on the link. What a great interview.
Shaughnessy: Expect a rout of poor Broncos
Does this remind anyone else of Woody's "Jagwads" column way back when?
Gabe is just the cutest little guy in the world, isn't he?

Uniform Change Info for All NHL Teams
Notables:
1. The Reebok logo on the backs of the jerseys has been replaced with the word "Reebok".
2. Helmets will now have numbers on the front as well as the back starting opening night.
3. The Habs red line is now two lines filled with Canadiens logos. Pretty sweet.
Tommy John Surgery for Brad Hawpe
Hate to see that happen to a good guy. I kinda miss Brad Hawpe.
Yeah, Paul Bissonnette is my new hero.

Kris Draper retires in the future
Kris Draper has apparently announced his retirement at a press conference that took place on July 26, 2011. Only problem is, today is July 25, 2011. I bet he's a premature ejaculator too, but fortunately for him, no girls want him.

Jason Grilli is back in the bigs
Called up to the Pirates. Anyone remember when this guy was a good reliever for us? I didn't realize he was the 4th pick in the draft his year.
And by the way, his Twitter avatar still has him in his Rox uni.
Matt Cooke at it again. Hopefully this shuts him down at least for the rest of this year. This is a blatant elbow to the head.
NBC, Versus have inside track on NHL deal
Interesting SI article on the ongoing TV negotiations. With Versus now owned by NBC (which is now owned by Comcast), and NBC having exclusive negotiation rights at the moment, sounds like ESPN won't get any piece of the pie.
Also, what's interesting, is Flyers owner Ed Snider has a share in Comcast, so he "won't let" the league take its broadcasts anywhere else.
My Soapbox on the Foppa Comeback
My first entry in a long while on my blog, The Centennial Soapbox, on SI's FanNation. Probably not my finest work, but I think it gets the point across.
Reports: Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin both likely OUT for All-Star game
So who replaces them? Is there a list of alternates somewhere? Or is the NHL going to just cancel the game since the only player from the only team in the league has a concussion?
Mike Preston: Ravens aren't afraid of Broncos' overrated passing attack
This guy is an idiot. I seem to remember him writing a ridiculous article last year that had no basis in fact or logic before the Broncos went to Baltimore.
I'm not a big media-basher, but this guy is just dumb.
Paul Andrews Leaving Kroenke Sports Enterprises
Executive VP Paul Andrews has resigned effective October 27 to take over as President and Chief Executive of the National Western Stock Show. He'll start working for NWSS on Nov. 1. Best of luck to him (and for the sake of the Stock Show, I hope he doesn't take any Avs/Nuggets marketers with him).
Frei: For once, other leagues are jealous of the NHL
This is an interesting read on Frei's DP blog. Essentially, he says, the NFL and NBA are going to lockout because they want a salary cap like the NHL has. Frei's perspective is always interesting and well-thought-out.
"Ridiculously Awesome" Article On ECHL Team Website
I think this is pretty damn cool. From the headline, "Condors Offer Ridiculously Awesome Deals for Groups This Season", to phrases such as, "Once again, to offer a deal like this, we should be examined to see if we have a brain, but we'd like to think of it as extreme generosity!"
Ridiculously awesome.
Even in his post-playing days, Brendan Shanahan is still a whiner
These are some pretty ridiculous rule change ideas for the most part. Some of them I understand, like the modified no-touch icing, but some of these ideas are totally stupid.
And Brendan Shanahan is a whiny bitch.
Don't Eat the Food in Denver's Sports Venues
Pepsi Center, Coors Field, and INVESCO Field's food vendors apparently are pretty unsanitary, according to Outside the Lines. All 3 had over 60% of their vendors in violation of various sanitation codes. There was even a report of some kind of fly in a bottle of cognac at the Pepsi Center.
In fairness, some venues had 100% of their vendors in violation, but this is a little unnerving.

Money Apparently Can, In Fact, Convince Some People That Edmonton Doesn't Suck
Apparently Mike Comrie bought Hillary Duff a $1M US engagement ring. And they're buying a $10M house. And he bought her a $100,000 Mercedes for her 20th birthday a couple years back not long after they became an item.
Lucky for them, in case of another lockout, he's an heir to Canadian home furnishings giant "The Brick".
Let's play a game: Guess Alex Ovechkin's Girlfriend's Age
She claims 23, but I'm pretty sure that's a typo. She doesn't look a day over 13. Seriously, I hope he knows a congressman or something. She has "jailbait" written all over her.
I really like AO's "Sex and love are the future" T-shirt, though. Cracks me up.
Say It Ain't So, Super Joe!
I wrote this post last summer when the news broke that the Captain was hanging up the blades. Being the one-year anniversary of the press conference, thought I'd re-post it here. Enjoy!
Signs you're not getting drafted this weekend
More humor from DGB.
"Scouting reports describe you as 'Alexei Kovalev without the commitment to winning'."
Matt Daley to DL, Replaced by Juan Rincon
Daley's got shoulder issues. Rincon is likely only up until Sunday, barring any Huston Street setbacks.

Phadouche is the Leafs new captain
Because apparently Jeff Finger isn't ready.
The 'Hawks are Even More Salary Cap Screwed
Courtesy of Jonathan Toews' contract, via TSN's James Duthie:
"Toews gets a $1.3M bonus for winning the Conn Smythe. Because CHI was at cap, it will count against next year, so add that to their cap issues."
If this is true, then the 'Hawks are currently over the expected 2010-2011 cap by almost $100K with 14 players under contract and 2 restricted FA's.
More from DGB and Bloge Salming. And if you haven't seen the video that this parodies, Lonely Island's "Like A Boss" (NSFW), you haven't lived.
Things to do now that the NHL season is over
Courtesy of Down Goes Brown. There are some pretty good suggestions. Helpful advice from north of the border.
