NHL Rule Changes / Shark Bait

NHL adopts rule changes - Yahoo! Sports

After the Torrey Mitchell - Kurtis Foster incident in which the latter player broke his leg, it looks like the NHL is taking some action in terms of addressing touch icing, and the disasters that can happen due to it.

A change to Rule 81.1 states that “any contact between opposing players while pursuing the puck on an icing must be for the sole purpose of playing the puck and not for eliminating the opponent from playing the puck.”

The amended rule further states that “unnecessary or dangerous contact could result in penalties being assessed to the offending player.”

It's great news on the heels of many scary moments last year shared by fans of every team at one point or another, I'm sure. Another rule change that is minor but could have a very big impact to the end of games is the new rule touching on face off after a rewarded power play.

A change to Rule 76.2 will place the first faceoff of a power play in the defending zone of the team that committed the foul.

This is a pretty cool idea, IMHO. With that being said, lets see how I feel about that when it's 4th overtime in a game 6, and we get rewarded with a lucky whistle. Haha, I don't think I'd be diggin' it so much at that particular time.

Other sharks news:

Larionov Elected to Hall

freesia39 touched base on this, so I just linked to her diary.

McLellan and Marleaus - San Jose Mercury News

A freshly written article about how the new head coach and our team captain might have a little history. Something I feel sharks might be able to take a little peace in knowing. Hopefully he truly makes a difference and propels us to where we should be. Jacking up that Stanley Cup as high as we can!

A robbery reported at the NHL Awards...

Breaking news: Martin Brodeur walked off with Nabokov's trophy last night.

Martin Brodeur, meanwhile, refuses to give up the Vezina Trophy as the NHL's best goaltender. The New Jersey Devils star goalie won the award for the fourth time in the past five seasons, beating out Evgeni Nabokov of the San Jose Sharks and Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers. He beat Nabokov by only seven points in voting by NHL GMs, the closest race of the night.

Capitals' Ovechkin cleans up at NHL Awards - TSN

With all due respect to Brodeur, come on now. Nabokov was an absolute monster, and deserves all the credit in the world for taking this underachieving team to the second round, not to mention the big show itself. I understand it was a close race, and I understand that there are other great goalies out there, but this one is tough. I sat around and flipped back and forth to watch the awards, unfortunately I had a bowling league to attend. I mean, I really thought he was gonna get it. Ahh well, whatever. Hopefully they can come out with chips on their shoulders next year. They haven't before. Sigh.

Vermin, Roaches In More Filthy MLB Parks.

You probably remember last year’s shutdown of food service at Angels Stadium after the ballpark’s food service operation was outed forinnumerable health code violations

Portfolio.com follows up on that today with a report on further abuses throughout the league, including Yankee Stadium, Citizens Bank Park, Coors Field, Miller Park, AT&T Park, Shea Stadium, Safeco Field, Kauffman Stadium and the worst offender of all - McAfee Coliseum in Oakland.

This is pretty rank, and honestly, surprising. Of all the times I've eaten at McAfee, I've failed to see a problem with my food, or any of my friends food.

It's hard to say, but for the most part these surveys seem unbiased, which leads me to believe that it's true. At the same time, I don't want to think about my team's kitchen being all gross. Especially when they're raping me for 10 dollars for a hot dog and a soda.

*BANGS DRUMS* THE CHAMP IS HERE!

I can tell you're already all excited. How does it feel to be chatting with a LEGEND? A pure legend. I can't believe Houston got pwned tonight, what a bunch of scrubalubs. They coulda been 1st seed! Way to crap it out, and ruin our chances, Pouston. I mean at what point is it just not ridiculous though. We played pretty much every important game like we SHOULD win, and not like we NEED to win. Sucks to be us! Our .05 percent chance at 1st pick is gonna hit though, don't you worry.

Raiders to start McCown at QB

This is a travesty. A joke, if you will. I don't like it one bit. It just doesn't make any sense to me. McCown does NOT put us in the best position to win the game. Period. I just wish that Kiffin wasn't such a hard headed guy. It just seems like he picked McCown from the beginning and after Culpepper makes some mistakes it's time to pull the rug out from under him? He deserves MORE respect then that. It makes me sick man. Physically sick.

* Editor's Note *I had to bump this story to the front page. This is exactly the kind of rookie garbage that Kiffin has been displaying all year. Now he throws out a guy who has seen two days of first team snaps in four weeks against a terrible team and sits the guys who fought through terrible line protection and should be 3-1 as a starter. Garbage!!!

A group of Dolphins fans took out their anger on the Raiders for manhandling their team by pelting the Raiders buses with rocks and bottles as they departed Dolphin Stadium after the game. A bottle shattered a window on the fourth of six Raiders buses, with the glass falling inside on the occupants, according to a Raiders team official who requested anonymity.
Is that honestly a joke? I mean, what the hell kind of crap is that. The Raiders fanbase gets a rep of being disrespectful and rude, but then things like this get little blurbs in articles. Meanwhile we keep our rep. Ridiculous.

Does anyone have any pictures of this? High Res pictures? I was at the game but I had forgotten my camera. I'm a youngin' and that was my first playoff game ever (of three last year). Best baseball moment, neigh SPORTS moment of my entire life.

Absolutely amazing. I was just wondering if you guys had any pix because I'd love to comemorate it with something.

Thanks for the help, regardless.
