Rumor: USC sanctions
http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/ncf/news/story?id=5267933
ESPN reporting USC may be banned from post season play for 2 years, loose several scollys, and may vacate two years of wins (could this mean that Tubbs gets his national champion ring???) Wonder if the loss of scollys also include basketball? The results are due Thursday. They are also speculating on the possability of Bush having his Heisman vacated. Could not get the link to take on the other post.
Amaro Picks Tech
According to Scout.com's Greg Powers Jace Amaro 6'5' 240 lb tight end from San Antonio MacArther High has picked Tech. His Father was a tight end at Tech and his sister is currently a student at Tech.
Sorry I couldn't get the link to work.
"I'm going to Tech," Amaro informed Scout.com immediately after making his final decision.
As a junior Amaro collected 429 yards receiving and scored two touchdowns in a shortened season.

Good news the TT/NM game will be televised, bad news it is on the Mountain west channel, which I don't get.
Ah well, thats the week end for shooting lead pellets in the air and hoping that some unsuspecting dove will try to fly
through them. At least the radio reception in the area is better than down here in south Texas.
Woe is me
Woe is me…..dress me in a hair shirt cover my head with sack cloth and shower it with ashes of ere bestowed laurels….scourge me thru pirates alley and keelhaul me till I promise to erase this infamy…….woe is me.
Out of collie Ville Station the corps of farmers came boiling over the Caprock to assail our virtue, show the errors of prideful compliancy…. for every tit there is a tat.
The Shermanator stole our plan, with the bludgeons Christine and Gray and the bombardment of Je rod of the cannon arm, the Shermanator stole our thunder, ripped the magic veil from the warlocks of Whitlock, shunted aside the flanking assaults of our Henley Sharps…confusion reigned….Woe is me….
The privateer Taylor began the assault on the farmers brilliantly but began floundering on rocky shoals laid by Kines, the Capt”n rushed the Doege of the wobbly knees into the fray, alas, too little, too late. The corps in their shined brown knee highs march back to collie Ville with boasting rights for one year….one looong year until redemption.
Time for self pity and reflection is over for marauding red leg jayhawks are said to be on the move intent on riding roughshod over our grounded pirate Raiders.

Crabtree signes with 49ers
Our long, regional nightmare is finally over: Michael Crabtree has a contract. It took most of Tuesday and a good chunk of Wednesday but Crabtree's agent Eugene Parker and 49ers negotiator Paraag Marathe finally worked out a deal. The team's initial offer way back in the summer was a five-year deal with about $16 million guaranteed. Once the two sides got together yesterday afternoon, the sticking point was the length of the deal, according to someone close to the negotiations. The new deal is for six years, something the 49ers insisted upon due to the time Crfabtree already has missed. But Crabtree can make it into a five-year deal with on-field incentives. Playing time early in his career will be key.

TTU-KSU on FSN

LUBBOCK, Texas - FSN announced today that Texas Tech's home conference opener against Kansas State on October 10 will air at 6 p.m. CT on a regional basis. The schools were approached by FSN to televise the game, which is not part of the Big 12 network package.
The game between the Red Raiders and Wildcats is the 11th in the series with Texas Tech holding a 7-3 advantage, including wins in each of the last four meetings. Kansas State last won in Lubbock during the 1997 season, a 13-2 win for the then-No. 13 Wildcats.
Superstitious???
First, I am NOT superstitious, but, always watch that black cat; a pinch of salt over the left shoulder; a found coin on the ground with tales up,leave it; don't step on that crack. The fickle finger of fate has dealt us a blow by allowing us to anger a goddess, yes.... our Lady In Red is angered with us. Everyone, they say, knows the ficklleness of gods and goddesses, all should remember how Dionysus punished the king of Thebes for disrespect.....attonement is in order... I say we tried late Saturday and Sunday morning by partaking of the fruit of the vine as prescribed by Dionysus, no Maenads were present tho, darn the luck, but, all I achieved was a headache...
Methinks the goddess Lady in Red feels disrespected by the banner that has been placed across her bodice, we chasened satyrs with benumbed pounding skulls plead for the return of the Lady to her full glory as follows...
Thats all I've got to say.

Amendola
http://www.bleedinggreennation.com/
Reported on bleeding green nation Danny was picked up by st. Louis Rams. Could not get the URl to take on Fanshots so now I'm trying to get to 75 words. The blog indicates he will be used primarily as a punt returner and has a shot as slot reciever. As I understand if a player is picked off another teams practice squad he has to be placed on the active roster.
TTU--TU head to head
http://stats.chron.com/cfb/head2head.asp?gamecode=200909190083&home=83&vis=86
Ran across this head to head compairson of the first two games on the Houston Cron. web site, had not seen this type of display before. The stats are quite similar with one major divergance (commented on many many times here and elsewhere), rushing attempts and rushing yds. Also ran across this on U-tube, it's a recount of the '08 game, but with an intresting throwback intro. I think the author is "texas tailgater"
Mike Leach who needs who
Seth, I gather you 're not so hot on the bleacher report, but this is one of the better articles on the contract fiasco . Don't know how to do a block so I'll go for 75 words.
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/244591-texas-tech-vs-mike-leach-who-needs-who
I caught a Gregory-Portland high school game this week, Charlie Sadler has Chance Vernon' an offensive lineman listed as a prospect future TTer. The Kid is huge ~6-7 ish 300+lbs handels himself quite well. He was a man among boys Thursday night, sort of hard to tell how he will perform against equal competition
Point spreads
Acording to the Sagarin ratings, if the games were played this Saturday the point spreads would be as follows.
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt09.htm
NDak +35
Rice +21
@ Texas -10
@ Houston +10
NM +17
K State+14
@ Neb +1
T A&M =14
Kan +7
@ Ok St +1
Okla -5
N Baylor +17
Its interesting that his ratings generally follow the general feeling I get from this and other blogs that Tech will be an underdog at Texas and Oklahoma, toss-up games will be Ok St and Neb.
New Crabtree rumor
David Wells, Crabs cousin/advisor, has said that Crabtree is ready to sit out the season and enter the draft next year.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4381335
ESPN is reporting that Eugene Parker knew nothing about this statement, he indicated that the statement couldn't be further from the actual situation and nothing is happening right now.
It seems to me that Crabs should somehow limit what his family/unofficial advisors say. Statements like this could sour any rappor with team mates and get him branded as the next TO.
LA TIMES TAKE ON TEXAS-TEXAS TECH GAME
Chris Dufresne opines:
Sept. 19: Texas Tech at Texas/Tennessee at Florida. Two roadside accident games -- you shouldn't look, but you can't help it. Texas is going to payback-clobber Texas Tech for costing the Longhorns a possible national title last year, while first-year Tennessee Coach Lane Kiffin is going to feel scorching Swamp scoreboard pain for calling Florida Coach Urban Meyer a cheater.
Only have 67 words, so, I'll say, I'm liking the athleticism of the newest Cody recruit to TTU.

Red raider report
An insightful Don Williams interview with LJWorld sports writers.
Nevada
If my memory serves me well, Grambling has had a pretty good, well coached team but the Wof Pack pretty well took them apart. It looks like this game may show us how our Raiders will stand up to later teams that remember us as a team that has trouble stopping the running game.
Just looking at the stats from the Nevada Grambling game;
Nevada 49/ grambling 13
Nevada stats:
Total yds 626, total plays, 85- 7.4yds /play
Pass 203yds, 32 plays- 6.3yds/play
run 426yds, 53 plays- 8yds/play
all purpose yds 692yds
time of possession about even, Nev 29 mins/Gramb 31 mins
Nevada held Grambling to net 5yds, Grambling QB sacked 6 times for -50yds
It looks like Nevada will try to play keep away with their running game, our run defence will be sorely tested.
