Montezuma's Revenge is still in first on the heels of a particularly strong showing two weeks ago, but can he hold on with his lead dwindling?

LengthyCoast9 and CalPete likes beer tied for top honors this week, going 14/19. LengthyCoast9 misfired taking West Virginia - 3 against South Florida, New Mexico State +44 against Ohio State, Oklahoma -28 against Kansas State, USC - 3 against Oregon, and Utah -17 against Wyoming. CalPete likes beer incorrectly picked New Mexico State, Vanderbilt +12 against Georgia Tech, Notre Dame - 28 against Wazzu, South Carolina +6 against Tennessee, and Utah.
The Golden Sombrero for the week goes to badassery, Is it Saturday yet? and Intelligent Chowder? with 6/19. No, that's not intelligent, chowder.
I went 7/19. So yeah.
38 people picked Oregon +3, against 19 who took USC and laid the points. Go Ducks.
Two people picked Syracuse +15 against Cincinnati. I mean, I know Tony Pike was out, but seriously. What the hell are you thinking? Four people picked Vanderbilt against Georgia Tech. Come on, people.

Beaver with Sour Cream

Ingredients

2-4 pounds of cut beaver
1/2 cup flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon paprkia
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup sour cream
Oil to cover
1 onion

Clean beaver and soak overnight in salted water (1 tablespoon salt per quart of water). Drain, cut up, and roll in 1/2 cup flour seasoned with 1 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon parika. Fry in fat until browned. Then cover the beaver with sliced onion. Sprinkle onion slices with 1/2 teaspon salt. Add 1/2 cup water. Cover skillet tightly. Simmer for 1 hour. Add 1 cup sour cream in last 15 minutes of cooking time. Serves 2-4.

I don't know about you guys, but I often enjoy beaver on the weekends.

Tonight’s exhibition game is not being carried over KFRC-1550 AM. But fans can pick it up through CBS online, with Roxy Bernstein and Tom McKim calling the action, as usual. You can find the link at the bottom of this Cal news release.

Here's the All-Access video link, although I think you have to pay for Cal All-Access, $8 or something a month. You can cancel it at your lesiure; there are a few more non-televised games on Cal hoops the rest of the season though. You can also listen to the game on Chico State radio.

For people who want something free, there might be a link to the scoreboard feed later on sans play-by-play. If it's available, we'll post it in the comments close to tipoff, look out for it.

As for Chico State, here's a quick look at their team. A direct contrast to Cal with four returning senior starters, Chico State has a bunch of hoopsters who'll be playing together for the first time.

Flores is one of many new faces on the Chico State team that has been picked to finish eighth in the 12-team California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Coaches’ Poll. The Wildcats were 8-19 last season, but only three players from that team will be in uniform against Cal – Zach Graves, Roderick Hawkins, and Nick Lonnegren. Chris Sharp will miss the game and may miss the entire year with a broken foot, and Joshua Jackson is redshirting this season.

Flores, a sophomore transfer from Sonoma State, and freshmen Ethan Stone, Spencer Moyer, Damario Sims, Jake Lovisolo, Powell Lee, and Cameron Fenley each joined the program last season and redshirted. Brian Seals, Darren Nye, Jason Conrad, and Terence Pellum transferred in this year. Jon Baird returns after a two-year hiatus for his senior season.

DBD 10.30.09 Here Comes the Pain

Tonight is the Nets' home opener (and hopefully the last one that will require me to connect from subway to train to bus in a span of 40 minutes) and if Wednesday's opener against the Timberwolves in Minnesota is any indication, I'm in for a long year.

For three quarters, the great Minnesota center had an uncomfortably close view of Lopez’s coming-out party, as his young opponent dominated him in every way imaginable, while the rest of the Nets helped make Big Al look like ... well, a guy coming off ACL surgery.

But right around the time they fell into a 16-point hole, Jefferson and the Wolves held Lopez scoreless in the fourth quarter, held the Nets to one field goal in the last 6:51 minutes, and yielded a grand total of two points in the last 3:13.

And that gave Damien Wilkins the opportunity to provide the finishing touch, as he hit a short follow at the buzzer to cap a 24-6 blitz to the wire and lift the Wolves to an improbable 95-93 victory at Target Center.

Thrilling, really. I'm totally psyched to watch them go 12-29 at home this year.

Devil Curry Recipe

INGREDIENTS

1/2 lb Chicken

4 tbsp Oil

2 tbsp Chilli Powder

2 tbsp Turmeric Powder

2 tbsp Mustard

4 tbsp Vinegar Salt and Sugar to taste

-- Ground Ingredients--

2 Large Onions

12 Shallots

7 cloves Garlic

2.5cm pcs Ginger

1 Candlenut

1. Heat oil and fry the ground ingredients till fragrant.

2. Add chicken and salt and fry over high heat for a few minutes.

3. Mix the chilli powder and turmeric powder with a little water to form a smooth paste.

4. Add it to the meat.

5. Stir well, add a little water and cook over low heat.

6. When just about cooked add in the mustard, sugar and vinegar.

7. Stir and simmer for another 10 minutes.

8. Serve with steamed rice.

Not sure what the hell is up with the formatting there. Anyway, use this for tonight's game between North Carolina and Virginia Tech. What the hell are the Tar Heels doing on Thursday night here again already? Anyway, let's go...Hokies? I guess.

Montezuma's Revenge was not the high scorer of the week - HolmoePhobe was, going 16/22. His only misses: West Virginia - 7.5 against Connecticut, Minnesota + 16.5 against Ohio State, Miami - 4.5 against Clemson, Utah - 9.5 against Air Force, South Carolina - 12.5 against Vanderbilt, and Texas Tech giving 21.5 to Texas A&M. Montezuma's Revenge, Valiant Carpetbaggers, Takimoto, class of 87, Bowlbasaur, and Hey Bowles Hall! managed to get 15/22 correct.
vanman1013 and Bears Necessity were the only ones to correctly take Clemson + 4.5 against Miami.
Bears Necessity and Barney Barnerges were also the only ones to incorrectly take Virginia against Georgia Tech. Avi was also one of only two people to take Baylor against Oklahoma State. Not to pile on!
Nine people correctly picked Connecticut against West Virginia. Eleven people took Tennessee against Alabama.

COLLEGE FANTASY FOOTBALL

dballers are no longer undefeated. Syd lines up under center defeated dballers_are_all_loose 102-93, with big games from LaMichael James (154 yards, 2 TDs), Golden Tate (128 yards, 2 TDs), and decent games from the Nebraska defense and Tim Tebow. dballers_are_all_loose were let down by weak games from Todd Reesing (224 yards, 3 picks), Mark Ingram (99 yards, no TDs), and TE Tony Moeaki (4 yards). And there was much cheering.

Consider the doom brought, as Rag's Doombringers defeated HolmoePhobes 118-113 in a matchup where HolmoePhobe's QB Austen Arnaud missed the game and had zero points. So if you're looking for a quick and dirty explanation of what could have turned that matchup, there you are.

Rock Runners rode the running of Dion Lewis (121 total yards, 2 TDs), a 28 point fantasy day from Zac Robinson, and a strong defensive performance from the Oklahoma defense to a victory over Yellow Fever, which got 29 points from Jeremiah Masoli (211 total yards, 3 total TDs) and 24 from Jaquizz Rodgers (123 total yards, 2 total TDs) but not much else. The inexorable slide into mediocrity continues.

Jahvid Best propelled Energia del Burro past team 1 116-71, with his 186 total yards and 3 touchdowns. Immortalized, of course, on our exclusive torrent here (h/t to TouchedTheAxeIn82 and danzig!). He also had some backup from Jevan Snead with 332 passing yards and 3 total touchdowns in the first game he decided to actually show up for, and 28 points from the Texas defense in flattening Sam Bradford.

TimeForSomeAction slipped by The Ghosts of Ty Willingham 105-99 with a strong, balanced performance led by Jordan Shipley (108 yards and 2 TDs), Jimmy Clausen, and the Oregon defense to ward off 20+ point games from Kevin Riley, Chris Brown of Oklahoma, and Shane Vereen. Unfortunately, Nyan Boateng, Dez Bryant, and Rob Gronkowski combined for a total of zero points for the Ghosts.

From Western Hunting:

Jack Wemple's Mountain Lion Steak Surprise

2 Mountain Lion Steaks (1 lb), cut 1-inch thick
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
Garlic powder
Johnny's Seasoning Salt
1/2 can of beer
Flour
Vegetable oil

In a 9x9" flat glass baking pan, combine mixture of milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder and Johnny's Seasoning Salt to taste, and a half can of beer. Lay mountain lion steaks in mixture and marinade for 2 hours.

Roll steaks in seasoned flour, and fry slowly in vegetable oil until just done in the center (don't overcook!)

Serve with green salad, garlic break, and a baked potato or scalloped potatoes for one of the most incredible meals you've ever eaten!

YoQuieroOski was the high scorer for this week, with 11 of 16 games picked correctly (everyone pushed on Oklahoma/Texas) - the incorrect picks were Ohio State -13.5 to cover against Purdue, Nebraska -10.5 against Texas Tech, Minnesota +17.5 against Penn State, and BYU - 17 against San Diego State.
Only five people picked San Diego State to cover against BYU. Only six people correctly picked Purdue. Ten picked Colorado against Kansas. Thirteen people picked Georgia Tech against Virginia Tech.
As previously mentioned, everyone pushed on Oklahoma/Texas, but only sixteen people picked Oklahoma.

CGB Fantasy Basketball!

Given the success of our fantasy baseball, fantasy football, and college fantasy football league, we thought it would be a good idea to see if there's any interest in putting together a fantasy basketball league. Avi recommended that we use ESPN as our platform this time (as opposed to Yahoo) due to more bells and whistles, but the downside is that I can't just post the league name and password here and have people sign up - I have to explicitly send out invites. How boorish.

Anyway, if you want in, please say so in the comments below and I'll send an invite to the email address you signed up for the blog with. If you want that invite sent to another email address because you don't check the address you signed up with, please email us directly using the icons at the bottom of the blog. The league settings and live draft date have yet to be decided upon, though I'd prefer we do that ASAP given that we're less than two weeks away from the opening of the NBA season. Go Nets.

Eating the Enemy - UCLA

A bit of an awkward situation here, as Bruins are Bears.

Bear Sausage
30 lbs. ground bear meat
6 tsp. red pepper
12 lbs. ground pork butt
15 tsp. garlic salt
3 lbs. slab bacon, ground
7 1/2 tsp. pepper

Mix all together. Fry in pan for breakfast sausage, good on pizza, and
makes great meatballs as well.

What's nice about all of these recipes is that you can't exactly go buy bear meat at your local supermarket. Use this as tonight's open thread for the USF/Cincinnati game. Go Bearcats!
