I once stalked Vince Carter around the tie section of a Bloomingdale's during a charitable event held by Devin Harris. I have a feeling I will regret for the rest of my life the fact that I did not buy a tie that he looked at, because then I would have been able to take that tie and say, "Vince Carter picked this out for me. Yes, THAT Vince Carter."

Bottoms Up! - The CGB Football Drinking Game

I mentioned off-hand during this past Saturday's game against UCLA that it might be time to make up a new Cal drinking game.  After all, there's only so many times we can run the ALAMAR!!!!!!! meme into the ground, and we also needed something that everyone who doesn't camp in our open threads can participate in during game days.

Hm, Let's Try That One Again! - Take a swig of beer if:

    CGB Fantasy Basketball!

Given the success of our fantasy baseball, fantasy football, and college fantasy football league, we thought it would be a good idea to see if there's any interest in putting together a fantasy basketball league. Avi recommended that we use ESPN as our platform this time (as opposed to Yahoo) due to more bells and whistles, but the downside is that I can't just post the league name and password here and have people sign up - I have to explicitly send out invites. How boorish.

Anyway, if you want in, please say so in the comments below and I'll send an invite to the email address you signed up for the blog with. If you want that invite sent to another email address because you don't check the address you signed up with, please email us directly using the icons at the bottom of the blog. The league settings and live draft date have yet to be decided upon, though I'd prefer we do that ASAP given that we're less than two weeks away from the opening of the NBA season. Go Nets.

    Eating the Enemy - UCLA

A bit of an awkward situation here, as Bruins are Bears.

    Bear Sausage
    30 lbs. ground bear meat
    6 tsp. red pepper
    12 lbs. ground pork butt
    15 tsp. garlic salt
    3 lbs. slab bacon, ground
    7 1/2 tsp. pepper

Mix all together. Fry in pan for breakfast sausage, good on pizza, and
    makes great meatballs as well.

What's nice about all of these recipes is that you can't exactly go buy bear meat at your local supermarket.  Use this as tonight's open thread for the USF/Cincinnati game.   Go Bearcats!

    DBD 10.15.09 The Uprising Begins

Finally, a segment of the population oppressed by our tyrannical leader TwistNHook has begun training for the revolution.  Yes, Twist has finally succeeded in getting a grandmother evicted:

I think my client was angry this morning. I had her, an elderly woman, evicted from her house. She had told me flatly she did not wish to leave, but I argued to the judge that she should be evicted. And so he ordered it.

Well, she hasn’t paid me yet, but I’ll get the Judge to order that she pay me later.

In response, grandmothers the world over have begun training for battle.

    From Yahoo:

100-year-old competes in the 75+ shot put final at the World Masters Games in Sydney

SYDNEY (Reuters Life!) – The oldest female athlete at the World Masters Games in Sydney has broken a world record in the shot put -- at the age of 100.

All eyes were on Ruth Frith, from Brisbane, as she arrived for day two of the World Masters Games, hoping to win gold in the shot put and feeling pretty confident as she was the only competitor in the over-100s category.

But her 4.07 metre (13 ft 4.2 in) throw on Sunday didn't just win her gold, but also broke a world record.

"As long as I didn't foul I was going to win it," Frith told Reuters Television.

The great-grandmother is also a keen hammer and javelin thrower and believes other pensioners should follow her example.

Frith trains five days a week, regularly lifting 35 kg (77 lb) weights.

Judgment Day is coming, Twist.  It's coming.

Fantasy Week in Review - Week 6

Penn State's incredibly weak non-conference schedule almost cost dballers_are_all_loose its first matchup of the season.

Evan Royster managed to run for 94 yards - which was just enough after a 2.25 penalty for a Weak Opponent Adjustment - for his team to defeat Energia del Burro 111.75-111.  He received ample support from Todd Reesing of Kansas in the form of 442 yards and four touchdowns through the air to go along with 12 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown, as well as 97 rushing yards and a touchdown from Montario Hardesty of Tennessee on a week where Jake Locker went off for 38 points and the Texas defense racked up 40 points in a dominant effort against Coloardo.

Nominal studs A.J. Green and DeMarco Murray provided a total of 17 yards for Energia del Burro - but at least they weren't as bad as purported top quarterback Jevan Snead of Mississippi, who rolled up a grand total of 1 point on the bench behind 140 passing yards and a 44 rushing yards to go with four interceptions.

    Eating the Enemy: Bye Week

I know it's a bye week, but I figured we could all use a little comfort food during our time in need. From Honey.com:

    Honey-Lemon Jelly

    - Makes 2 pints -

    Ingredients

    • 5 to 6 lemons
    • 2-1/2 cups honey
    • 1 package (3 oz.) liquid pectin

    Directions

Grate rind from lemons to measure 4 teaspoons; set aside. Squeeze juice from lemons to measure 3/4 cup pour lemon juice through fine strainer, discarding seeds and pulp. Combine rind, juice and honey in 6-quart saucepan, stirring well. Bring mixture to a rolling boil over high heat, stirring constantly. Quickly stir in pectin. Return mixture to a rolling boil, and boil, stirring constantly, for 1 minute. Remove from heat; skim off foam with metal spoon, if necessary. Pour jelly quickly into 2 hot, sterilized pint jars, filling to 1/4 inch from tops; wipe jar rims. Cover immediately with metal lids and screw on bands. Process jars in boiling water bath for 5 minutes. Cool jars on wire rack.

Use this as an open thread for tonight's game between Nebraska and Missouri. Go Tigers! Go Blaine Gabbert!
