Another Embarrassing ESPN Broadcast

I realize I'm not writing anything you folks didn't already know, but the TV broadcast last night was unbelievable. Unfortunately I was on a plane at the time and had no outlet for my anger -- no blog to vent upon, and no cell phones allowed during the flight. Did any of you see/hear these?....

Fuckup #1: Jon Miller calling Maicer Izturis "May-see-yer". Now, I could MAYBE understand if the Boy King were a rookie and hadn't had much playing time. It's a funky name, at the very least by English-speaking standards. But A) part of your JOB as a broadcaster is to know how to pronounce the players' names, and B) Izturis is in his 5th year in the majors and his third as an everyday player for the Angels. Not exactly an unknown. Then again, I guess if his name were Hideki you'd have no problem with it.

Fuckup #2: Joe Morgan talking about how Izturis and Aybar are battling for David Eckstein's position as shortstop for the Angels. Dear Joe, I know you're really smart because we had to watch you receive an honorary doctorate like FIVE TIMES during the broadcast. We also had to listen to you ramble on about how much you value education. How about you put your money where your mouth is and LEARN ABOUT THE TEAMS WHOSE GAMES YOU'RE CALLING? David Eckstein left after 2004. You might be thinking of Orlando Cabrera, or did you forget about him after he left Boston?

If ESPN wants to make itself credible to West Coasters in the slightest, they need to get their shit together.

Who's down with the UEFA European Championship? What does your bracket look like? I've got Sweden over Germany in the final -- total homer pick, but I gotta go with the family (and who can argue with this).

The Dutch looked impressive over Italy, and how about Villa from Spain? Badass hat trick.

Ibrahimovic powerfully helped the Swedes defeat the defending champs, but the French need to show up to make my bracket look respectable.

Oh, and don't forget to check out the Global Futbol SBN site.

Choose Your Angels TV Team

The Angels have mixed up the TV broadcasts this season, and we are far enough into it to have an educated opinion. Some good opinions have been expressed in the recent FanPost by angelfan_007, among many others.

Phyz and Hud bring passion and a commentary well-suited for the average joe who may not be as much of a baseball enthusiast as us here at HH. While this may not be as interesting to the vet'run baseball fan, they have the potential to bring more fans into baseball and the Angels.

Rory and Guby are a more complex team -- Rory's more traditional style is enhanced by his sharp wit, and Guby's thoughtful analysis gives fans a broader window into the gamesmanship going on in the minds of guys who appear, at face value, to be primarily concerned about adjusting their jocks.

So let's play front office for the Angels, because A) it looks like they are auditioning the two teams for the full-time gig next season, and B) one of the reasons HH exists is to indirectly tell the Angels what they REALLY should do. (And they listen, because I have proof that Mike Napoli knows one of his nicknames is Side Salad.)

Who should be the full-time core of the Angels' TV broadcasts?
