I read on the comment section of another post that Orangebloods reported that he is in the doghouse. Is anyone familiar with this story? He's our best CB and the secondary is struggling without him. There seems to be a dearth of information the subject and I'm to cheap to sign-up with Orangebloods.

For obvious reasons, this has been the most Monday-feeling Monday since this summer. I've been reading all the posts and comments with the same voracity, but with one eye closed. Seventy-five? Good.

I am in no way excusing any player or coach, but if you really thought the last two teams were championship-caliber you're delusional. Longhorn fans have a long history of putting unrealistic expectations on the football program. If those expectations were met, we would win the MNC every year. NOBODY has that kind of success. While the last two years should have been better, there was no way we were going to win it all. So much went wrong this year in every conceivable fashion. You just can't overcome all the injuries, disciplinary issues, etc. week after week when you simply lack the talent to do so.

DA had a HORRIBLE year, but the players on the field weren't up to the task to begin with. We all knew the secondary was going to be a problem and it was. We were never going to win anything significant with that lot. Colt has had a wildly inconsistent season, which I think confirmed once-and-for-all what I think most of us already knew: he is not a transcendent player. If that's what you need/expect from him, he will disappoint you. I'll not even bother with GD except to say he's had better AND worse years.

There is plenty of blame to go around, but this team ended up about how I thought they would. Losing to ou and atm just makes it particularly repugnant.

Thoughts on GD's and DA's performance

I thought GD rebounded nicely. Most of the offensive problems were related to poor execution. I know nearly everyone has had it with him, but year after year the offense's numbers have always ranked among UT's best.

On the other hand, I thought Akina was abysmal today. God, how we just served up those screens and play-action throw-backs. We were lucky the OSU staff went into a shell in the 4th. I think he's in over his head at this point.

What y'all think?

Anxious Before Big 12 Opener

As we arrive at the beginning of conference play, I'm looking back at the non-conference portion of the schedule and finding myself very concerned about the fate of our dear Longhorns. I've been watching and reading this particular blog very keenly since I first stumbled upon it during the MNC season and have come to the conclusion that this lot is INTELLIGENT and knows its football. That's why this is my go-to source for all things Longhorn. However, the intelligence and general football quotient of this group is the very thing that is leading me near the brink of despair.

The problems with this year's edition of the 'Horns are evident to all who visit this blog and take the time to share their opinions. Generally, everyone points out the obvious deficiencies in personnel/scheme/both, offering up sensible and thoughtful solutions for these problems. There is also a pervading notion that the staff MUST be aware of these issues (after all, these are supposed to be experts in their field) and will cotton on to the same solutions and all will be right with the world in the end.

This assumption is what scares the shit out of me. It suddenly became clear to me tonight, on the eve of the biggest game of the year (sell this one short at your peril). Football coaches AREN'T as intelligent/thoughtful as the fans on this sodding blog!! There is NO guarantee that they can see what is SO obvious to the rest of us. We want to acquiesce because they are around the team 24/7, but ask yourself honestly: Am I smarter than every coach on the staff? If you don't sport a mussy you've already got Duane Akina beat.

I pray they aren't as stubborn as they seem. I pray they can't deny the blinding superiority of the underclassmen LB's. I'm so afraid it will take a loss before anything is done about it.

The Glenlivet has taken over. I'm gonna leave before this gets any more incoherent. All I know is this game is HUGE, particularly before the RRS. I think we've got the talent to overwhelm KSU. Why: if we're, big, bad, TEXAS; would we ever be satisfied to "take what they give us" when we should be imposing our will on every down?
