Riley Sheahan signs 3-year entry level contract
He's skating at today's optional morning skate with Quincey, Kindl, Helm & Eaves.
First Stanley Cup Championship Game - 1894
For those who don't know, I'm a bit of a history geek and follow at least as many history twitters as hockey. Today in 1894, the first Stanley Cup Championship game was played. Follow the link for the full story from the American History Museum.
Doug Janik is re-assigned to Grand Rapids
Per the DRW tweet, Doug Janik has been re-assigned to Grand Rapids. I hope this means that TPH will be back on Saturday. Also, no practice for the team today.
Something kind of neat from the Blues/Hawks game this week
Very heartwarming video from the Blues/Hawks game on I think it was Tuesday this week. Got a little dust in the eyes here at work.
Jimmy Howard - Fastest Skating Goalie?
Looks like Jimmy's going to be in the spotlight as he is the designated goalie for Team Chara in the Fastest Skater Competition. Anyone think he might pull a Tim Thomas from last year and wipe out around one of the corners? Should be fun to watch.
THN article blames Lightning season on Yzerman
Interesting piece where THN's Campbell lays mot of the blame for the Lightning's woes, especially in the goaltending area, on Stevie Y.
Carcillo suspended indefinitely pending hearing after Gilbert hit
Looks like we won't have to worry about Carcillo running any of our guys Saturday night. He's been suspended indefinitely pending a hearing before the Director of Player Safety. Look for the Shanahammer to fall hard since he is a repeat offender this year already.
Scott Burnside's year-end Vezina Ranking
As you can see, Tiberius is leading the list of Vezina candidates at the Christmas break. It seems we're not the only ones noticing his stellar play.
Pronger out indefinitely with "concussion-like" symptoms
Looks like Philly may have more problems on their hands. Some long-term, late-in-career contracts can come back to bite you.
NHL issues Code of Conduct for 2012 Winter Classic
I don't remember seeing this for any of the other Winter Classic games. I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that the game is in Philadelphia?
Make-A-Wish Foundation of America to Honor Wings Tonight
Before tonight's game against the Bolts, the Wings will receive a national honor from the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America for their work with the organization. It links to a story on the Wings website from earlier this month. This just confirms in my mind that this is the classiest organization, with the classiest players, in all of professional sports.
Pronger out four weeks for knee surgery
Wonder if the Flyers are regretting the long-term contract they handed him? His body seems to be breaking down more frequently these days.
Stewart gets only three
Guess the fact that Kronner came back was a mitigating condition. Sorry if someone else already posted this. My computer at work is really slow today (and it's just my the body behind the keyboard).
Kronwall update from MLive
Looks like Nik came out of the hit okay. He was skating and according to Ken Holland will play on Thursday.
New Red Wings commercial
Take a look at the new Wings commercial. Don't know if any of you in the Detroit area have seen it already, but this is the first time I've had a chance to see it.
Apparently the Coach was not happy after last night's game
Looks like the boys lost an off-day as a result of yesterday's game. Probably not a bad idea. Get their attention and nip the bad habits in the bud. Hope it translates into angry players on Friday against SJ.
Datsyuk shoots Lidstrom
Nothing like a little FBI-supervised paintball fight among teammates. It would be fun to be on Pav's team. If he's as sneaky with a paintball gun as he is on the ice, he'd be dangerous out there.
Bleacher Report article calls Babcock "Best Coach in the NHL"
The writer seems to make a good case for Babcock being the best coach currently in the NHL. Reading the list of his accomplishments to date makes me tired.
Brunnstrom changes his number and other updates from practice
This is from the Free Press. Brunnstrom will wear 76, since he couldn't outwrestle Homer for 96. Also Homer is getting Synvisc shots in his knees and may not be in on Friday. Eaves also did not practice today. However, in the good news department, Buckets practiced with a regular jersey as opposed to the grey, no-contact jersey, and both Pav and Z practiced.
Buckets out for rest of pre-season with "upper body" injury
Helene St. James, Free Press, posted this article. Apparently, Buckets got hurt in Friday's game against Philly. All KH is saying is that it's an upper body injury, but he won't play any more in the preseason. Also Stuart is fighting a minor groin issue. When do the injuries stop?
Announcing Teams Set for NBC/Versus Coverage
A friend posted this in a forum on the Free Press. I can tell you now, I am not looking forward to games on Versus or NBC this year. Nor do I plan on watching much of their pre-, intermission and post-games shows. Not with that line-up.
Jimmy Howard's going to be a daddy
Just saw this on the Free Press site. The baby, a boy, is due in about a month. Now, maybe we know what he was doing during the All Star Break.
Selanne re-ups with Ducks for another year
There is happiness in Quacker land now that the Finnish Flash is coming back for another year of being the only classy player in Anaheim.
Lidstrom's Expectations for this Season (with video)
From the Detroit News, the video is of yesterday's informal practice. God, it is good to see them on the ice skating again.
Wings are back on the ice, informally at least
A number of the Wings (being lead by TPH and Homer) are skating at a local Detroit rink. That can only mean good things.

Ken Daniels Wins Ty Tyson Award for Broadcast Excellence
Something to confirm what we all know -- Ken Daniels is good at what he does.
Kovalchuck re-signs with the Devil(s)
Just thought I'd post this since I didn't see it on here already. From tsn:
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/kovalchuk-inks-deal-with-the-devils/article1644833/
At least we won't have to deal with him in the West. Not sure what this does with Jersey's cap space. Now maybe we'll see some more deals fall into place since everyone seemed to be waiting to see where he landed.
