#BegHarder Goes National
Tyler Duffy of The Big Lead wrote something on how UConn's conference future is directly tied at the hip of Notre Dame. It isn't anything we didn't already know, but it is great to see #BegHarder get some national traction.

Cee Lo Green & UConn Football. Who knew?
Porter mentioned the Good Shabazz/Bad Shabazz nature of Shabazz Napier this year. Part of that is having to be the team's sole ballhandler with Boatright out. But I thought this wheel could be a useful tool when trying to figure out which one you're getting on a given possession.

According to ESPN.com, the Big East is considering adding teams from a pool of: UCF, ECU, Army, Navy, Air Force.
This is my retort.
Former UConn soccer star Bobby Rhine, the program's first MLS draft pick, died Monday night, after suffering a heart attack. Rhine was a two-time All-American, as well as a great student, selected as an Outstanding Scholar Athlete by the UConn Club in 1999.
Rhine had recently retired following a long MLS career, and had just started the next chapter of his life- as the voice of FC Dallas. He became well-known for his passion, and his experiences & wit were the hallmark of his broadcasts, as well as his twitter persona @BobbyRhine.
Rhine had tweeted/talked in the past about how much he enjoyed his time in Storrs, still following the team from afar in the years after he left. The men are again in the national title mix, but their return to national relevance in the 90's was built, in part, by the hard work of Bobby Rhine.
Rhine's offensive skill helped bridge the gap between the end of one legendary coaching era (Joe Morrone) and the start of another (Ray Reid).
He was just 35 years old. He leaves behind his wife and two children.

UConn beats Louisville 7-5, clinches Big East Regular Season title, unveils new fight song replacement.
Congrats to the Connecticut Post for moving yet another step closer to irrelevancy by not sending staff reporters to cover the UConn men's basketball team at the Final Four in Houston. Short-sighted decisions are running newspapers like yours into the ground. Is the couple of thousand dollars you saved going to mean anything at the end of the fiscal year compared to the number of readers you have alienated? Readers aren't dummies. They know when they are being taken for suckers. Get a clue, guys.

DC alumni watch goes crazy.
With a thought for or brokenhearted friends on Cardiac Hill. Chin up.
At least you won't need to take down that banner and add 2011 Big East Tournament Champions to it. Or make room for a meaningful one next to it.
Instead, it will hang forever in the Petersen Events Center, as a reminder of what once was, but so much more of what could have been,
You know, like all of your other banners.

More Edsall Brilliance From EDSBS
"The list of candidates Maryland wanted instead of Randy Edsall provided in the Baltimore Sun was, on further investigation, somewhat incomplete. The full list of Maryland's coaching candidates follows. Candidate Gamera was unavailable for comment. "
If there's anything better than crazy football trick throws set to MGMT, I have yet to find it.
They start out kind of ordinary and then escalate.

The Hit Em Up of angry booster letters, in of all places, Storrs, Connecticut.
""The primary reason (former coach) Randy (Edsall) took another job is because he couldn't work with you," Burton wrote in the letter to Hathaway. "You are not qualified to be a Division I AD and I would have fired you a long time ago. You do not have the skills to manage and cultivate new donors."
...
Burton advised Hathaway that he and his family will "implement eight actions" effective immediately. Among the actions:
• The family will not pay for its $50,000-per-year luxury suite at Rentschler Field. "You already have many other empty boxes at Rentschler. My box will just join the list," Burton wrote.
• The family will not purchase an $8,000 advertisement on the inside cover of the football program.
• All remaining scholarship dollars, including "the current balance" earmarked for football, will be transferred to the business school.
• The family will stop its $20,000 annual donation for a summer coaching clinic and plans to make no future donations to UConn.
• The family, which used the UConn business school to help "train our first line managers" for its business, will use the Syracuse business school instead."

Old UConn Game Films
If you're bored, or curious, or both, check out some old football and men's basketball game film from the 30s and 40s from the Dodd Center. They should open up in Windows Media Player for you.
Note: UNH basketball and URI football still stunk 80 years ago.
This was on the UConn Scout board, posted by user chewy5 and...it's brilliant. It's perfect.
It's everything we aren't going to miss and are thrilled about not having to deal with ever again.

UConn Alum Here In Peace
Figured you might have questions about your new coach. Anything you'd like to know in particular, feel free to ask. I'll do my best to answer any questions you have. I need to fill this thing up to get it to seventy-five words now, so I shall quote Longfellow below.
Courtesy of former teammate Darius Butler, this is the injury that caused UConn's Scott Lutrus to play with a gigantic club on his right hand.
In case you forgot why football players are tougher/more clinically insane than you are, there you go.
Speaks for itself.
The Courant's John Woike had a great shot of Randy Edsall sneaking a peak at the Fiesta Bowl Trophy. It must headline the open thread.
It MUST.
Fox Sports Arizona clearly needs a higher camera position at Fiesta Bowl Media Day. Glorious hairstyles from the mescilin media, which have Randy Edsall enchanted.
After the disgusting Greg McKee news...here's something we can laugh about, as MMA legend George RUSH St. Pierre teaches Jonathan some moves he can use in advance of the Fiesta Bowl.
Caption THIS
I know when you think about UConn-USF, you obviously think of the nationally-renowned baseball dance-off. But Randy Edsall isn't content to let that incident stand on it's own on this important day.
