OT - Help Me win this thing McCoven
Hey McCoven - I'm trying to win this internet contest for a free two night stay at the Sofitel San Francisco. All you have to do is LIKE the Sofitel San Francisco, then LIKE the picture of the super cute kid wearing the Pandoval t-shirt. Feel free to block the Sofitel after you do this, although they do run lots of cool contests like this that you can join in on in the future.
I hope I'm not like breaking any rules here - if I am, please delete this fanshot and I won't do it again... although - if you all here can take a minute out to help a fellow Giants fan and his Giants fan wife spend a free weekend at this hotel, that would be super awesome.

Jose Guillen - Welcome to San Francisco
So, ESPN Deportes is reporting that Jose Guillen has been traded to the Giants, and that he is en route to San Francisco in order to play before tomorrow's game with the Padres. It was first reported on Twitter here:
http://twitter.com/Enrique_Rojas1
http://espndeportes.espn.go.com/news/story?id=1101177&s=bei&type=story
Then, Mr. Rojas posts a story on the site, detailing the trade and it seems that he's saying it's complete, but it's a bit hazy. The title says he's now with the Giants, but then it it it says "in order to complete the trade, Guillen would fly from Miami to San Francisco in time to play for Friday." I'm thinking there's some fact missing, like a meidcal exam or something of that nature. He say it's a "credited source"- no specific source listed.
I like the trade for the Giants, depending on the price. If it's for just low level no-name prospects, then sure. If the Royals are sending money back for him, even better. Trading Ishikawa's bat in for Guillen's bat makes this team better... looking over Guillen's numbers, his best year was with the Angels in 2004 - the only year he went to the playoffs. So far, the "playoff magic" has rubbed off on Burrell, maybe Sabes will be 2 for 2.
I was originally against this trade, but the more and more I thought about it the more and more it started to make a tiny bit of sense. The clubhouse cancer thing really scares me, but hey... the guy went to high school with Juan Uribe. Huff/Burrel re-united. Uribe/Guillen re-united.
Sabean and Bochy and Management 101
If Freddy is healthy he's a fine fit. The problem is, he's not healthy, wasn't when he signed the contract, and wasn't when given the extension. The Giants are idiots for giving Sanchez any sort of extension. They should have renegotiated from a position of power, knowing that NO ONE would have given Sanchez a contract while hurt. Heck - FELIPE LOPEZ - who is a much better 2B is still available. No one is going to give him even 1/3 of what the Giants are paying Sanchez. Sabean is an idiot. Instead of using that to his advantage, he sticks with the contract extension negotiation BY ANOTHER TEAM. He could have pressured him into signing a contract for half of that, but he wanted to be a "player's boss" instead of a people's boss. The thing is though - was he learning from this other situation.
Stanford alum Ryan Garko, the other "big" acquisition from 2009...
Garko's career numbers compare favorably to Huff's. Garko would have been $2M cheaper. He didn't want to play here though because apparently Bochy was "mean" to him last year.
Garko's 2010 projections: 282/357/453 - 118 hits and 18 HR
Huff's 2010 projections: 267/354/445 - 139 hits and 20 HR
Both project for the exact same number of RBI's though - at 80... and Huff is getting about 80 more at bats in this projection by the "professor" Bill James. With those additional AB's he'd have about the same exact hits and DINGERZ. Plus, Garko is younger, and went to school at Stanford. Isn't that the kind of player we should be looking to attract?
It seems like both of these "managers" are confused how to handle these employees - because in the end, isn't that what this is? Bochy ruined a relationship with an employee that your customers were interested in, and Sabean overpaid for an employee who had nowhere else to go. Management is difficult, but an essential fundamental is to think logically and make sound business decisions in the interest of the business - both of these decisions were extremely costly, and handled differently would have saved the Giants about $5M on the lowside and $7M on the highside. $7M is a lot of baseballs and even ballboys. That $7M could probably have bought us a Johnny Damon or even guaranteed us a Nick Johnson.I just don't see the logic in these two moves - do you?
Congrats, Colts! So... now what do we eat?
Congratulations to all of the Colts fans here at Stampede Blue. What a great game played by a great team. However... now that the Super Bowl is sealed, there is a bit of serious business that everyone will have to begin to plan. That's WHAT DO WE EAT? I have a Super Bowl party every year here in San Francisco, and I always feature food from the respective cities who are participating. I'm ashamed to admit it, but I have never visited Indianapolis.
I'm here to ask nicely for suggestions from true Colts fans in Indianapolis as to what are the signature dishes from Indiana?
What are you serving for snacks during the Super Bowl?

Personal Assitant to a SF Giant
The wife found this listed on CL, as she's been looking for a part time job. She thought this sounded great - and being a die hard Giants fan, she got really excited and even forwarded it over to me... she can't take the job, as travelling isn't something she can do with our baby in tow. But - it leads to a few questions -
Who do you guys think this is?
Also - since no better Giants fans exist in this world --- who needs a job?
