Does anyone have anything on Bumgarner's last outing?
I almost hesitate to ask, but did anyone attend Madison Bumgarner’s last start on Saturday? Has anyone heard any scouting feedback on that start? It appears from the box score and recap to have been relatively uneventful, especially in light of his previous outing, where I witnessed a bit of a set-back.
Note again that Saturday was also his birthday. I believe the Defenders intended to distribute souvenir M.B. bobble heads in celebration.
Madison Bumgarner may have hit the wall tonight
Just back from Bowie, Maryland, where Madison Bumgarner laid a major egg tonight against a lineup containing such has beens and never-will-be’s as Steve Torrealba, Ambiorix Concepcion, Jonathan Tucker, and the Figueroa twins. We left after 5 and a half innings. The game was very sloppy. At one point before we left, there had been 23 base runners and 15 outs recorded. Bumgarner was ejected for throwing behind a batter. His command wasn’t there tonight, nor was any real velocity. It was very disappointing. According to one scout present, Bumgarner never broke 90, and from where our group sat, the stadium radar (notoriously fast there) never registered above 89. The same scout speculated that the Giants “may shut him down.” It could be that he has reached his physical limit this year, given his age and prior history. Keep an eye on this situation.
