Some love from Dave Cameron for "The Most Underrated Player in Baseball": Erick Aybar

Most of the article is behind the paywall, but this pretty much gets to the jist of it: "Aybar seems to fly under the radar for many of the same reasons as Pagan. He's a good hitter relative to his peers at an up-the-middle position, but he's not the kind of dynamic offensive player who shows up on "SportsCenter" a lot. Rather than being excellent at any one thing, he's solid at a number of things and excels in areas that people pay little attention to, such as running the bases. And, of course, he's been overshadowed by more famous teammates for practically his entire career, and given that he's now on the same team as Mike Trout, that's not likely to change any time soon."

Premium talks to MLB Trade Rumors about arbitration

Money quote right here: "To help prove their case, Abbott and his group used 12 quotes from Scioscia and other front office personnel to show how much weight the club put on a catcher and his defense. " Weren't we joking at the time that Mathis's team must have had Scioscia arguing for them?

August 4th Lineup

From Victor Rojas on Twitter: #Angels v Ivan Calderon's: Trout 8, Izturis 6, Pujols 3, Trumbo 9, Morales DH, Callaspo 5, Kendrick 4, Wells 7, Iannetta 2 & Santana 1.

Angels are supposedly telling teams they don't want to keep Wells around

The Angels are spreading word that they'd rather not keep Vernon Wells around as a fifth outfielder when he comes off the disabled list, so they're looking for somebody, anybody to take him off their hands. "I bet he gets moved somewhere," one exec predicted. "One of those deals where they eat the money, you pay him a half-million dollars and hope you get lucky." The Angels, for now, are saying they don't want to eat all of Wells' money ($21 million a year through 2014). But good luck on that front.

Richards starting on Tuesday, Williams headed to the pen

Not surprising since Williams has been pretty rough of late.

Wells is getting healthy at an unfortunately quick pace

Wells said he has a target in mind to start a minor-league injury-rehabilitation assignment "shortly after the All-Star break" which arrives next week. Wells is on the 60-day DL and can't be activated until July 20 at the earliest. Scioscia re: Vernon's role and playing time when he returns "You always face different situations," Scioscia said. "This thing could turn six different ways by the time he comes back and plays so you really can't speculate on what's going to happen. "What Vernon does — he's a special player when he's right and that's his focus right now, getting healthy. We'll obviously look at where we are and what's going on but it's still a long ways away."

4th of July Lineup

AS VICTOR TWEETS: #Angels v Carlos Baerga’s: Trout 8, Hunter 9, Pujols 3, Morales DH, Trumbo 7, Callaspo 5, Aybar 6, Izturis 4, Wilson 2 & Santana 1. Izturis and Wilson batting back-to-back, so there's your break to go check the barbecue.

Crooked Hat is still a douche

"I feel great. I feel happy,'' Rodney said after learning of his All-Star selection. "I made the team because (the Rays) gave me the chance to pitch. I didn't have too many chances last year so I can show I can pitch. This year it happened. I'd like to tell Mike Scioscia thank you." Scioscia shrugged off the apparently sarcastic remark from Rodney who has complained publicly more than once about his use by Scioscia (including late last season).

Lineup 6/30

Trout LF, Izturis 2B, Pujols DH, Morales 1B, Trumbo RF, Callaspo 3B, Bourjos CF, Romine SS, Wilson C; Richards SP

Probably the funniest thing I've read in a long time

In an article by Buster Olney on trade options for the Dodgers on the offensive side... Vernon Wells, Los Angeles Angels: Oh, sure, the Angels would probably be open to a conversation about Wells, who is owed about $50 million for the next 2 1/2 seasons, and the Dodgers wouldn't have to give up any prospects for him. But there is an open question about whether Wells can still play right now. I want this to happen so badly. I just need to see a Dodgers lineup with Abreu, Rivera, Wells and Adam Kennedy in it.

Lineup for 6/20

#Angels‬ vs. ‪#Giants‬: CF Trout, RF Hunter, 1B Pujols, DH Morales, LF Trumbo, 3B Callaspo, 2B Kendrick, SS Aybar, C Wilson, P Weaver. Needs Morales and Trumbo switched and more Hester.

Iannetta is starting his rehab this weekend

Excellent news! Unless you're Hank Conger I guess.

5/12/12's Wells-Free Lineup

#Angels lineup v #Rangers: LF Trout 3B Callaspo DH Pujols RF Hunter 1B Trumbo 2B Kendrick CF Bourjos SS Aybar C Hester LHP CJ Wilson (again) And so begins the Hester era.

Jorge Cantu opts out of his minor league deal

Well That Was Quick: Mills sent back to Salt Lake for Jerome Williams

So Takahashi is the only lefty until Downs is back on the mound, again.

Downs won't go on the DL, is day to day with a bruise

Excellent news!

Lineup for C.J.'s debut

#Angels v The Gardy's: Aybar 6, Kendrick 4, Pujols 3, Morales DH, Hunter 9, Abreu 7, Callaspo 5, Ianetta 2, Bourjos 8 & Wilson 1. No Wells, and Callaspo is playing 3B. I really wish Scioscia would stick Callaspo in the leadoff spot when he plays.

Conger optioned to Salt Lake

Not surprising, but this officially means it will be Iannetta and Wilson to start the season.

I certainly don't miss Terry Collins at all

He's been criticizing the Mets new shortstop in the media for not showing up to camp early, and then chewed him out when he showed up on time.

Trumbo took a groundball off his face

Between this and nearly nailing Dipoto with a throw the other day, it's been an eventful ST so far for Trumbo. Hopefully he's okay.

Baseball IQ Semifinals

The Angels' Shane Demmitt vs the Dbacks. And then the Championship round is on immediately after.

Angels sign Jason Isringhausen to a minor league deal with an ST invite

I was hoping they would do something like this. Veteran guy to compete for a bullpen spot, and at worst maybe the younger guys pick up something from him during ST.

Farewell Horacio

The 2011 version of Brian Stokes is headed to Korea.

Orioles sign Luis Ayala

Looks like the Angels reported interest in him might have been overblown, since he signed for 825K(with incentives) with a 1 million team option(100K buyout) for 2013.
