Lyle Spencer also traded

We now get Alden Gonzalez. "Thirty-one years and a few drastic moves later, here I am, promising myself to keep this entry short, trying to fill the incredibly large shoes of the great Lyle Spencer and hoping to bring you the best Angels coverage possible. It’s understandable if you’ll miss Lyle, but he won’t stray far. He’ll still have a big presence on MLB.com – and Angels.com, to some extent – by producing captivating columns, feature stories and plenty more of the stuff you want to read about."

Marlins sign Heath Bell for 3/27

We'll see if Stark is more accurate here than Bowden was last night. Update: It now looks like the deal also includes a 4th year vesting option.

Aramis Ramirez's agent says the Angels have "serious" interest

Asked earlier in November about free-agent third baseman Aramis Ramirez, General Manager Jerry Dipoto said the Angels' interest level in the slugger was "lower, but I never close the door on anyone." That door, according to Ramirez's agent, is apparently wide open. Paul Kinzer said Monday that the Angels are one of "four or five teams" that has "serious" interest in Ramirez, a 14-year veteran who could give the Angels something they have lacked for almost a decade: a legitimate power threat at third base. -------- Please be typical agent BS. Please.

Dipoto continues the FO rebuild, hires Matt Klentak

#Angels announce that Matt Klentak, 31, will be an assistant GM. He was director of baseball operations for #Orioles since 2008.

Texas Signs Reliever Joe Nathan

Rangers give former Twins closer Joe Nathan 2 years/14 million, plus third year club option LoneStarBawl reports Neftali Feliz is being moved to the starting rotation.

We all have a chance to help Big Splash!

Apparently someone came up with the idea of something along the lines of ToriiTown for Vernon and Vernon is going with it. He's now asking for name ideas. The responses here should be pretty hilarious.

Justin Hollander promoted to Director of Baseball Operations

And Sam Miller adds that Hollander was the resident stathead from the previous regime. Sam Miller Link

Morales Update

#Angels 1B Kendrys Morales started light running and swinging off a tee this week. Rehab program won't get strenuous until January. ---------- I'm starting to get flashbacks to last season's Morales Watch.

Phillies Signing Papelbon

Well, this contract is probably going to be completely ridiculous. 4 years, and approaching 50 million. LOL Phillies. Stark Tweets: Vesting Option could take it to $60 Million!

Rangers Farm Director Scott Servais Hired as Dipoto's Assistant GM

The Rangers are expected to lose their farm director Scott Servais to the Angels. He is expected to join them as assistant GM to Jerry DiPoto. The Rangers refused to comment on the situation.

I think Vernon forgot that he played for the Angels last year.

Good night all! Been a busy couple of days but excited to start hitting tomorrow!! Show my new team what I am real ------------------ We aren't that lucky Vernon.

2012 Payroll will be in the 130-140 million range

Owner Arte Moreno said #Angels payroll will be in $130 million-$140-million range in 2012, which will probably preclude a run at huge $ FAs. Thanks Tony!

I hope Baltimore has Del Taco

#Orioles new gm wishlist inclds: LaCava, DiPoto, Levine, Jennings, L White, Avila, T Reagins, DeJon Watson, accdg to Pete Schmuck Also, Pete Schmuck is a very unfortunate name.

Lyle Spencer was right: Mathis joins the All-Star team

"New York Mets pitcher Dillon Gee, Washington Nationals pitcher Ross Detwiler and Los Angeles Angels catcher Jeff Mathis were the latest players to be included to the Major League team." Please miss your flight back Jeff.

Lyle Spencer has a message for the "Mathis haters"

This is gold. #Angels Mathis haters, Hamilton on Napoli: "When you catch, it's difficult to perform offensively. You get tired. He's done great job..." And then he gets into a conversation with Mike DiGiovanna, Tyler Kepner, and True Grich. "Great idea. Mathis would hit .250 at Rangers Ballpark with buddy Nap urging him on." "Napoli raised his BA 56 points in Texas. Why couldn't Mathis? Reunite them, by all means." "All Mathis has to do is fix a flaw in his stroke. Go ahead and laugh. If he does, you'll see." He's crossed the line into batshit crazy territory.

And the FO housecleaning continues

Assistant GM Ken Forsch and special assistant to the GM Gary Sutherland have also been let go.

I think Vernon Wells is just trolling us now.

"Thanks Angels fans for such a great first season in Anaheim." The comments below are possibly more hilarious. People thanking Wells for a "solid season"

Beltre begged the Angels to sign him?

Adrian Beltre, who lives 30 minutes from Angel Stadium, begged the Angels to sign him last offseason, according to Peter Gammons of MLB Network (on Twitter). It's Gammons, so who knows how much truth there is to it. But if it's true? Just wow.

Trumbo done for what's left of the season

#Angels Trumbo has stress fracture in right foot. Shutting it down for rest of season.

Angels call up INFs Alexi Amarista and Gil Velazquez

Velazquez was also added to the 40-man roster, which brings the total up to 40. Amarista isn't surprising, but Velazquez kind of is.

Angels call up Romine, Efren Navarro, Jeremy Moore, and Horacio Ramirez(Holy shit, again?)

#Angels callups: 1B Efren Navarro, OF Jeremy Moore, SS Andrew Romine, LHP Horacio Ramirez. Navarro and Moore yet to play in majors.

Trout, Conger, Segura and Others will play in the AFL

Trout, Conger, David Carpenter, Chris Scholl, Andrew Taylor, Daniel Tillman and Jean Segura will all play for the Scottsdale Scorpions. No word yet on if they'll have Trout play catcher after all.

Angels call up Jerome Williams

He'll keep Horacio Ramirez company in the "I can't believe I'm back in the majors!" club.

Meet Tony's next Big Splash: Jorge Posada

Posada said over the weekend he would consider playing for a new team next season. "It could [happen]," Posada told The New York Post. "I don't know what's going to happen after this year. But we'll see."

Eddie Bane is Not Tony's Biggest Fan

Eddie Bane, the scouting director at the time, was fired last winter by General Manager Tony Reagins. The Angels did not publicly explain the decision. Bane said he does not accept the reason Reagins gave him - that the Angels' recent drafts were poor. "Tony and I don't like each other," Bane said Tuesday. "I don't think that's a reason to get fired. Personality clashes are never any fun. I don't blame him for thinking I'm not the greatest guy in the world. He's not a guy I would want to hang out with. I'm sure he feels the same way about me." "He told me, 'I'm not happy with the last three drafts.' That's ludicrous."

Angels to honor Derek Jeter on September 9th

On the night of Sept. 9, the Yankees come to Anaheim to play the Angels. Except for possible playoff games, it will be their final series of the season in Southern California. Two days later will be the 10th anniversary of 9/11, and the Angels will certainly pay proper homage to that, with the Yankees still in town. But in some form, the details of which are still being worked out, that series-opening game will present an opportunity to showcase Jeter. "We are still finalizing some things," says Tim Mead, Angels vice president of communications. "It is fair to say we want to honor the man, the player and the person in some form." Fans lucky enough to have tickets will want to arrive early. Legends don't pass through often, especially this soon after legendary moments. It will be a night when it is still OK to hate the Yankees. It will not be OK to hate Derek Jeter. Well, ummm, okay....

Jim Bowden on Reagins

Style: Authoritative, brilliant baseball mind who works well in the trifecta with owner Arte Moreno and manager Mike Scioscia. Builds teams on pitching and defense up the middle. Active at trade deadlines, will trade prospects and has the resources to acquire All-Stars.
