Scouting report: Trevor Canfield

Trevor Canfield

6'5, 305 pounds | Cincinnati | Guard

Strengths:
A dependable interior lineman, Canfield should do best in a finesse scheme that takes advantage of his athleticism. Has good lateral movement. An asset on traps and pulls. Really fires off the snap and gets into his stance with ease. Shows good vision to pick up the inside blitz. Does well walling off on stunts. In the run game, he keeps the pile moving to help get extra yards. Played both left and right guard. One of the team's leaders as a senior.

Weaknesses: Because Canfield has good athleticism, he gets too high in his stance on the move. Sine he doesn't have the best strength, Canfield shouldn't be considered a drive blocker. Lower body strength is lacking and he can get pushed back by powerful defensive tackles. Doesn't sustain blocks long enough. Needs to be more dominant. Some character concerns.

Final word: Canfield is a serviceable guard who works best in the run game when he can get out and block on the move. He won't fit in a power-run offense. Picks up stunts really well. Was a three-time second team all-conference performer. Played right guard as a senior. Canfield was suspended in 2008 for allegedly hitting a man with a glass but charges were dropped.
