Josh McDaniels Fired By Denver Broncos After 3-9 Start

New, 3 comments

Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen fired head coach Josh McDaniels on Monday. McDaniels was in his second year as Broncos coach. The Broncos are currently 3-9 after going 8-8 last year, though they lost their last four and eight of their last ten games in 2009. Last week Bowlen said "we will continue to monitor the progress of the team and evaluate what's in the best interest of this franchise.''

McDaniels also earned $50,000 fines from the NFL for himself and the Broncos due to his role in a videotaping scandal. The coach did not order the taping, nor did he view the tape, but he failed to report the incident to league offices. He apologized and accepted full responsibility. The Broncos have not stated that the scandal played a role in his firing.

The third team to fire its coach this season, the Broncos have yet to name an interim head coach. The Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys also fired their coaches, with their records improving in the following weeks.
