Jamel Turner, the Ohio State recruit whose life was imperiled by multiple gunshot wounds early Saturday morning, is now expected to survive the attack. As the Columbus Dispatch reports, the key was making it through the night:
According to two sources close to Turner, the 18-year-old was upgraded to critical but stable condition this morning. The sources said his life was in serious danger after the shooting, but if he made it through Saturday night, it was a good sign.
One source also said Turner’s family now has requested that no more information be given out.
Unfortunately, according to WCMH in Columbus, it appears that Turner's career with the Buckeyes is over before it had the chance to begin:
According to coaches in the Youngstown area, Turner is still in critical condition, but they think he will make it out of this alive. He won't be able to play football again -- he was shot in the neck and one bullet went through a lung -- but he is now expected to survive.
No arrests have been made at this point.
