If We Can't Get Replay, Can We At Least Get Some Justice?

Umpires get calls wrong. It's part of baseball, human error gives the game some of its pastoral character, etc. etc. etc. We get that. But they don't generally say things like what Phil Cuzzi said about a controversial out call against Travis Ishikawa on Sunday.

After the game, Cuzzi said he would take a look at a replay of the Ishikawa call, but said, "I figured I'd eat first."

As Ryan noted earlier, Cuzzi is no stranger to controversial calls in games and situations that matter. So what punishment might MLB mete out in the wake of such a bad call and such a flippant response? Come on, this is Bud Selig we're talking about. The answer, of course, is nada.

The officials, however, were concerned enough about the calls, and Cuzzi’s behavior on the field and after the game, that they spoke to him.

Yes, a stern talking-to. That'll teach him.
