Virginia Tech Picked To Win ACC In 2010 Media Poll; Florida State Quarterback Christian Player Preseason Player Of Year

New, comment

Frank Beamer will plenty of reasons to smile in 2010 if the ACC season plays out the way the media foresees it. Beamer's Hokies took the top spot in the 2010 ACC Media Poll, receiving 50 of the 98 first-place votes, according to ESPN's Bruce Feldman. Florida State came in second with 26 votes, followed by Miami with ten, Georgia Tech with eight and North Carolina and Boston College with two apiece.

Miami, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Duke and Virginia rounded out the rankings in the Coastal Division behind Virginia Tech, while Florida State led the way in the Atlantic Division, followed by Clemson, Boston College, North Carolina State and Wake Forrest.

Meanwhile, Florida State signal caller Christian Ponder was the media's choice for ACC Player of the Year with 45 of the 98 votes, followed by a pair of Hokies: running back Ryan Williams (16 votes) and quarterback Tyrod Taylor (11 votes). Everybody's favorite comeback story, BC linebacker Mark Herzlich, received two votes after improbably returning to the gridiron following his own battle with cancer.
