There have been some recent discussion about whether the Brewers would make first basemanPrince Fielder available in a trade, and just today we learn that the Brewers were deciding whether to become buyers or sellers at the trade deadline.
Should they become sellers, it would make sense to me for the Brewers to talk to the Rockies as the Rockies are having problems scoring runs, and don't have a consistent power bat in their lineup with Troy Tulowitzki on the DL. We have also heard recently that the Rockies would look to trade for an upgrade at first base by the trade deadline as Todd Helton is dealing with back issues again.
Dealing Fielder to the Rockies would make sense for the Brewers as they are desperate for pitching and the Rockies, of all teams, are pitching heavy with six legitimate starting pitchers on their major league roster including Ubaldo Jimenez, Jeff Francis, Aaron Cook, Jhoulys Chacin, Jason Hammeland Jorge De la Rosa. JDLR could come off the DL this week, but after getting roughed up for 8 runs on 10 hits in his AAA start on Sunday night, his return could be pushed to after the All-Star break.
The Rockies could offer one of Jhoulys Chacin or Jason Hammel and one of their minor league starting pitchers Christian Friedrich or Tyler Matzek in return for Fielder. Fielder would easily become the cleanup hitter for the Rockies and fantasy owners have to wonder how many bombs he would hit at Coors Field during the summer.
