When Angels ace Jered Weaver and his 2.82 ERA were left off the All-Star roster, there was much consternation. That has now been rectified:
With his naming of Jered Weaver on Tuesday to replace Yankees southpaw CC Sabathia on the American League All-Star roster, Yankees manager Joe Girardi brings to two the number of Angels on the AL squad. Weaver joins Torii Hunter, one of the reserve outfielders selected by the players in their balloting.
Weaver, like Sabathia, is scheduled to start on Sunday, meaning that he, too, will have to be replaced. But this earns him All-Star designation for the first time in his career.
