Rafael Soriano To Take Mariano Rivera's Place In All-Star Game

The headline says it all:

Tampa Bay Rays closer Rafael Soriano was named to the AL All-Star team today, replacing Mariano Rivera of the Yankees, who withdrew due to injuries.

Soriano was chosen because he had the next-highest total on the players' ballot.

Soriano has made 32 appearances this season, saving 22 games and posting a 1.42 ERA, with 28 strikeouts and five walks. The righty has been phenomenal, and even though he wasn't an original choice, he still has to be ecstatic at being named an All-Star for the first time in his career.
