After being diagnosed with a strained right lat on Tuesday night, Jake Peavy was re-examined on Wednesday. Results are in, and they don't sound great:
RHP Jeffrey Marquez recalled by #WhiteSox; RHP Jake Peavy on DL with detached latissimus dorsi muscle in right posterior shoulder.
Now this sounds pretty bad. It's still better than a torn labrum or rotator cuff, but it can take months and months to recover from a detached muscle, meaning the White Sox may have lost their top starter for the rest of the year.
Marquez will work in relief, and Daniel Hudson will soon come up to assume Peavy's rotation slot.
