So a notoriously cocky athlete nicknamed "Born Ready" snaps and pushes his "baby mama" down a flight of stairs, getting himself charged with a felony in the process. It reads like a storyline from ESPN's Playmakers, but alas, this is all really happening to Lance Stephenson (and his girlfriend, allegedly).
The New York Post had the report Monday morning:
Former [New York City] high-school hoops phenom Lance Stephenson -- who just went pro in the NBA -- was busted [Sunday] for pushing his baby mama down the stairs of her Brooklyn home, cops said.
The 6-foot-5, 210-pound Stephenson -- who holds the state record for scoring and who led Lincoln HS in Brooklyn to four city championships -- was charged with felony assault, weapons possession and other raps after the 5:05 a.m. violence on the stairwell of gal pal Jasmine Williams' Gravesend home, authorities said.
Williams, 21, with whom Stephenson has a child, told cops that he pushed her down 10 steps and she struck her head.
We'll reserve judgment until anything concrete emerges, but for Stephenson, it wouldn't be the first time he's run into trouble related to women. In 2009, he pleaded guilty to disorderly content in relation to groping a 17 year-old girl, the Post reports.
We'll have more as it emerges from New York City and, perhaps, Indiana.
