Nelson Cruz has been one of the better and more unheralded outfielders in baseball, the owner of a .320/.381/.587 batting line for first-place Texas. Unfortunately, his plate appearance count stands at just 318 in the middle of August, the reason being some trouble with his hamstring that is now sending him to the disabled list for the third time this season:
Rangers placed OF Nelson Cruz on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 15, with a left hamstring injury.
Cruz injured his hamstring on Saturday and was out of the lineup on Sunday. He figured it would be a day-to-day matter, and an MRI revealed no tear, but it seems the Rangers don't want to take any chances with one of their stars, given how little the games matter right now for a team with their lead.
Cruz's absence should allow for Julio Borbon to get back into the lineup more often. Check out more at Lone Star Ball.
