And we have our sexiest contender addition of the summer. Come on! Come on! Let's see it!
#Cardinals acquire Pedro Feliz from #Astros for minor-league RHP David Carpenter.
Feliz has been, without question, one of the absolute worst hitters in baseball this year, with his .243 OBP matching up with Clint Barmes' batting average. However, he's been better in the past, he's known to play pretty good defense, and he's a veteran, making him some sort of fit for Tony La Russa and a Cardinals team that's playing without regular third baseman David Freese for the rest of the year. Felipe Lopez has been filling in, but he's struggled, and Feliz gives them another option. Not a desirable option by any means, but an experienced one, which, well, okay.
In return for Feliz, the Astros receive 25 year old righty reliever David Carpenter, who has 50 strikeouts and 15 walks in 53.1 innings out of an A-ball bullpen. Carpenter is essentially a non-prospect, which is as much as you can hope for when you're trading Pedro Feliz. The converted catcher does have a strong arm, though, so he may yet carve out some kind of future.
It's not much of a move, but it's a move to talk about, and if you'd like to read more on it for some reason, be sure to check out Crawfish Boxes and Viva El Birdos.
