From our general hockey blog, From The Rink:
Would the Hawks have been able to keep any of their jetissoned players, such as Kris Versteeg and Dustin Byfgulien? Assuming the Huet transaction goes through (and nothing's final until it's final, as Ilya Kovalchuk could attest to), the Hawks would have $1.5 million in cap space. Versteeg, Byfuglien, and Brent Sopel all had cap hits over that, and some would argue that all three are making more than they're worth. Either way, those guys would still have had to go.
