Fantasy Baseball: Thursday's Roto Roundup

Quiet night last night with only 10 games, as we start getting some more info on some key injuries.

Both Kevin Youkilis and Carlos Santana will have season ending surgery on Friday, and at this point both can be dropped in everything but keeper leagues. Ah, what could have been...

Max Scherzer struck out 7 and allowed only 2 earned runs over 7 innings, but got a no decision in his start against the White Sox. I'm not entirely sure where he should be ranked coming into 2011, but he's clearly well on his way to being ranked pretty highly.

James McDonald made his first start with the Pirates yesterday, and pitched very well against the Rockies. 6 shutout innings, 8 strikeouts, 4 hits and only 1 walk with a victory. I'd like to see a couple more starts, but he could thrive if he is finally given a chance to.

Bad news for Kris Medlen owners, as it sounds like he's going to be shut down for a while, and potentially could need Tommy John surgery as well. They are going to wait a few weeks to see whether he will need surgery or not, so he's droppable in all but keeper leagues, at least until they see what happens then.

The Nationals are getting back two starters in the coming week, but only one is probably on anyone's radar. Jason Marquis is starting on Sunday, and the important one is that Stephen Strasburg will return on Tuesday. I'd put him back into your lineup immediately.

Ryan Zimmerman hit 2 homeruns yesterday against the Diamondbacks, giving him 21 on the season. He seems like he's been having a bit of a quiet season, with 21 homeruns, 60 runs batted in, and a .301 batting average. I'm debating whether or not he would be ahead of Alex Rodriguez in my rankings for 2011 or not.
