Thiago Alves was unable to make the 170 pound weight limit yesterday, not managing to get down below 170.5 pounds. The extra half pound did not help him at all as Fitch dominated almost the entire fight from bell to bell.
For all three rounds Fitch was much quicker, fully able to avoid Alves' strikes and got inside for takedowns with regularity. Alves briefly had moments where he was able to get on top through a scramble but even then Fitch was able to find ways to avoid taking any damage and would find his way back into the advantage.
All three judges saw every round for Fitch and the win should put him in line for another shot at the welterweight title of Georges St. Pierre.
