Jordan Shipley was a great receiver for Texas, combining speed with soft hands and reliable route-running and becoming Colt McCoy's favorite target before moving on to the NFL and the Cincinnati Bengals.
His little brother, Jaxon, might be better.
Jaxon Shipley, a 6'0", 170-pound wide receiver from Brownwood, Texas, skied over a defender to haul in a 35-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Cody Kessler for the West in today's U.S. Army All-American Bowl. It is the first touchdown of today's high school all-star game, and the West leads the East, 10-0, in the third quarter.
Several highly touted recruits are still scheduled to declare their college choices during the game, including Florida running back Demetrius "Dee" Hart, who just broke one of the game's longest runs.
A few players have already made their announcements. Florida defensive back Wayne Lyons chose Stanford during the game, explaining that, despite Jim Harbaugh's departure, "It's a great university."
