Breeders' Cup 2011 Results: Perfect Shirl Wins The Filly & Mare Turf

Perfect Shirl produced a strong late run inside the final furlong to pass Nahrain (GB) and win the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf at odds of 27/1. Nahrain held for second, while Misty For Me (IRE) got up for third.

Race favorite Stacelita (FR) was boxed in badly down on the hedge as they came into the stretch and was unable to mount a late charge.

Prior to the start of the Filly and Mare Turf the French trained Announce (GB) acted up on the backstretch, almost ran into the equine ambulance, did run into the rail, and was scratched due to a minor laceration over her right hock.

Perfect Shirl is a four-year-old filly trained by Roger Attfield and ridden by John Velazquez. This was her first win since July of 2010 when she won the Grade 2 Lake George at Saratoga.
