Danica Patrick only barely qualified for the 2011 Indy 500 field. But can she work her way from the back of the Indy 500 lineup to come up with the biggest win of her career?
Patrick has raced well at the Brickyard since joining the IndyCar Series to much fanfare in 2005. Patrick placed fourth at the 2005 Indianapolis 500, leading 19 laps and winning the Rookie of the Year award. She topped that performance in 2009, finishing third.
In Patrick's six starts at the Indy 500, she has five top-ten finishes, and her average finish is a strong 8.5 despite a dismal 22nd place finish in the 2008 Indy 500. That outing was marred by a pit row accident in which Ryan Briscoe clipped Patrick's car, eliminating both racers, and prompting Patrick to walk down to the Team Penske pits, looking to confront Briscoe.
Patrick will have to avoid accidents and pick off racers to maintain her sterling Indy reputation: she starts from 26th position on Sunday, the furthest back she has been in an Indy 500 starting grid.
