The Vermont Catamounts have moved on to the last 64 in the NCAA Tournament with a 71-59 victory over the Lamar Cardinals in their First Four game.
The Catamounts pulled off a great road upset over the Stony Brook Seawolves in the America East Tournament to get into the Big Dance, and they've pulled off another big NCAA Tournament win, the second in the school's history. They move on to face the Midwest region's No. 1 seed, the North Carolina Tar Heels, in a virtual home game for UNC on Friday in Greensboro, N.C.
Vermont's bench was absolutely spectacular. Four McGlynn was the game's leading scorer with 18 points off the bench, while Pat Bergmann also came off the pine to hit all four of his shots, scoring eight points. As a unit, the Catamounts' bench scored 35 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and recorded five assists while shooting 11-of-15.
Lamar got 16 points from both Mike James and Devon Lamb while Anthony Miles kicked in 14, but they got absolutely nothing from their bench, which chipped in just five points as a unit.
