Marques Colston Gets $40 Million Over Five Years From Saints, According To Report

The New Orleans Saints won't let Marques Colston hit free agency. According to multiple reports, Colston and the Saints agreed to a new five-year contract extension that will keep him in New Orleans. Reports surfaced on Monday night that the two sides were nearing a deal.

This means Colston will not be a free agent when the market opens at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday afternoon.

Colston's deal will pay him a maximum of $40 million with just under half of that guaranteed, according to NFL Network. That's a reasonable number for Colston, who has over 1,000 yards receiving in five of his first six years in the league. There's a feeling around the league that Colston wouldn't be nearly as productive outside of the New Orleans system. His best bet was always to remain in New Orleans and now he'll do just that.

The Saints can move onto more pressing issues, like trying to keep Carl Nicks.
